Yes! Yes, Exactly! My poor bleeding eyes! I know we're not supposed to say it on this forum but Chief has screwed us again. That's 2 versions in a row!! It'd be one thing if they fixed this, like tomorrow, but when you've got the customers on an annual or monthly fee, I guess then they (we) aren't always right.

Thanks for the feedback Larry. Appreciate the response. Do you re-use a lot of plans or do you always start from new?
-
So I can only assume that you also now wear a hard hat while drafting?

X14 is also mildly blurry compared to X13. Also, visually, lines of selected objects often appear as though they are off by about 1/16" which, makes me constantly wonder if something got bumped out of place. Then when I zoom in or check a dimension, I see it is in the correct place. Again, new to X14.

Bumping this back up. X14 sometimes takes 20-30 seconds just to switch between saved plan views. Sometimes just entering text takes 5-10 seconds or longer. Anyone else experiencing extreme slowness compared to X13? If so, has anyone found a solution to that slowness? This happens across many different files, and none of them are very complex.

Shoving this topic back to the top! Everytime I re-open X14, I need to reset my view windows. I'm sending this to tech support, but if anyone knows of a solution, I'd love to hear about it. This is how Chief re-opens: This is how I prefer to have the windows:

Well done Gene. And yes, what you did is the only way to tilt a truss away from plumb. I think I would have placed a beam at the ceiling level, and the trusses would then notch to sit on top of the beam. Don't forget to factor in hangers!

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before, but it's a good idea to post your plan. Then we could help you without the guesswork.
-
It's not normal but it's pretty hard to trouble shoot your plan without the plan.
-
If you post your plan, I'll take a look and see what I can figure out. That does sound odd.

Dimension defaults > Setup Automatic > Exterior / Reach (increase it)

Forget that...I finally found out how!

Would I be correct in realizing that the text for a layout box label callout cannot be rotated? I can rotate the layout box, I can control the label orientation an the text above / below the callout line, but not the text in the actual callout...Notice the big capital 'A' ins the ss below.

open the schedule, it's right near the bottom.

Have You Upgraded To The Official X14 Release?
robdyck replied to HumbleChief's topic in General Q & A
I've had a few problems: corner boards keep falling off on the attic level, even when manually dragged up from the floor below. (I need to test this more thoroughly). text used for the dimension of an elevation marker is being stretched or compressed (this varies by font and does not affect all fonts) Chief has been very slow when switching between plan views (legacy plans) dang near every text box that I have in my template plan is being resized again!! Chief messed them all up at X13 so I already fixed them, and now that process has to be repeated. Because I don't use Chief's default eye-bleeding font?? If i double click a rich text box, then close it, Chief changes its size. Text boxes that were stacked / aligned, aren't anymore. Wonderful, just wonderful. -
@Gelby4Glad to help! You know where to find me! Remember that you can alert someone by tagging their username after the @ symbol.

I cheated by not showing any lines! The wall is flush with the edge of the stairs and I painted the stringer to the drywall material. I think a 3d molding would be best for the handrail transition and to make the carpet wrap the stair treads at the wall. For the carpet wrap, you'll probably need to make a custom molding profile, then create a 3d molding polyline, which I would get from a cad detail taken from a section view through the stair...just copy the runner lines, join / edit them then paste in place in the section camera view.
-
I recommend copy / pasting images directly into the layout file. No path needed, simply double click the image and ensure Save in Plan is checked.

The central window resizes the adjacent size windows to the OOB default each time Chief X14 is opened. It remains as I set it for the duration of each session.
-
Yeah, I found this odd. X13 always opens them in the same location and size. Whatever, between X13 and X14, Chief has gotten very costly. You can't soar with the eagles when...

Does anyone else have the issue in X14 that the side windows reset each time X14 is opened? For me, X14 will not remember my side window sizes. This has never been a problem before.

Door and Window Dimension Conundrum (and I believe error in Chief):
robdyck replied to postandbeam's topic in General Q & A
Correct. Correct Sort of. They are based on the size of the door slab. -
It seems to be relative to the size of the marker, not the length of the marker line. In my case, the marker size is 2" and 16" away is where it generates. Increasing the marker size moves it further away and decreasing the marker size moves it closer. Reducing my marker size isn't an option, but I'd still like this to be quite a bit closer automatically...

Does anyone know where Chief gets the settings to: locate the Storypole dimension (relative to the building) control the distance from the dimension string to the elevation marker? To me it looks like #1 comes from the active dimension defaults and is relative to the outermost surface. My 1st line offset is set to 24" so the storypole generates 24" away from the gutter. If I turn off the gutter, it then generates 24" away from edge of the roof surface (saving me some valuable page space), but also annoying because I like it right on the grid line (because I'm picky about dimension spacing and alignment and consistency). But my elevation markers are generating 16" away from the dimension string (this takes up too much space on my page). I can't find any setting that control this.
