  1. Yup. Just p-solids and add bolts and holes if you like. Save to library if you think you may need them again.
  2. It is dependent on the room type that the door way goes to. If there is a transition between interior and exterior chief will place an exterior door. If there are two interior rooms chief will place an interior door. If there are two exterior rooms chief will place an interior door. So it depends on how the plan is drawn and nothing in the Door DBX unfortunately.
  3. The setting you are looking for is "Roof Cuts Wall at Bottom". However for that setting to work the roof needs to be underneath and supporting the wall. This is not the same as "Lower Wall Type if Split by Butting Roof" that you had set which creates a pony wall.
  4. Also it would be helpful for you to fill out your signature and let us know you are using the X12 student version and you will get better answers.
  5. Yes you will need to turn on the line display.
  6. I have used https://cadsofttools.com/pdf-to-dwg-online/?sent=block a bit but not enough to justify buying the software. Even with an imported DWG you are relying on someone else's work that is usually done in ACAD. Results will vary. You have already run into some of the typical issues of things that were not built as designed or possibly never drawn correctly in the first place. Typical human errors that we all make or sometimes you can get thrown off by something that is not to scale or deliberately dimensioned incorrectly. Hopefully you do not need to rescale and you happen to use an incorrect dimension to do the rescale. Often the conclusion after completing a project like that is that it is better to draw it yourself but we have all done it at one time or another.
  7. Yes that is controlled by General CAD in plan defaults. Typically in North America Quadrant Bearings are used.
  8. Not likely that the building department will require that level of detail since the truss guys are supposed to be qualified at their jobs. There is nothing wrong with your objective. I have been urged to sign truss engineering on more than one occasion where I had noted issues and the truss jockey tried to assure me that when the order was shipped it would be correct but I don't play that way when there are 60k in trusses that are not even much use for kindling if they don't fit on the roof. Chief has the tools to verify what has been offered as "engineering" will work on your building or not. So even if it takes a day or two to draw it, that is better than a 6 week construction delay when you want to get a building closed in. Also not likely that the truss company will cover those expenses if you have signed off on their design work. If you don't enjoy drawing trusses, you have to wonder who really does day after day after day.
  9. Yes but you are likely trying to look at it in a 3D view. Is it turned on in your "Camera View Set" layerset ? Also for controlling layes the ALDO "Active Layer Display Options" tool is the most logical way to do it.
  10. Welcome to ChiefTalk. Everything in chief has a layer and to view the item it needs to be turned on in each view. Try turning on "Ceiling Surfaces in your camera view.
  11. Hi Rob, I think you are running into issues just with your structure. You need to do your calculation then round. %(room.internal_area/50).round% or %(room.internal_area/50).ceil% or %(room.internal_area/50).floor% Does that look correct Joe ?
  12. It can get complicated to make an exact match to the engineering but usually can be done with a little perseverance. You may need to turn attic walls off and just place one manually that is sheathing and siding but even then chief will ask if you are doing the right thing. Trusses build between ceiling and roof planes so you may need to provide those even if they really do not belong and use them temporarily to get the trusses built. Some work may need to be done manually in the truss detail if you can't find an auto setting that works. A temporary truss base may also be helpful but would need to try it. Depending on your experience level you may benefit from partnering up with someone who has more experience but even some of the most battle hardened pro's here don't bother with trusses so you need to find someone who thinks like you do. The more specific the information and questions you can provide the better the answers will be here on the forum.
  13. That can usually be sorted out using the "Join Roof Planes " tool It can be used in 2D as well as 3D but a little easier to verify in 2D. Sometimes you need to pull one roof plane back a bit first and find the sweet spot so they join nicely.
  14. It looks to me as though "Lower Wall Type if Split by Butting Roof" would be the correct setting.
  15. Balance out your "Interior Ambient:" light level with your "Daytime Ambient:" light level. Maybe find an average between the two as the exterior light level seems a bit washed out to me. That should get rid of the change when you come inside.
  16. Thanks, Michael That was really directed at Kyle but since your brain is working so well this morning, your method does seem to work for some strange reason. Now we just need a method for 12", 16", 19.2", 24" but we may need to settle for just two setting for now which is much better than just one.
  17. Yes but you may not be thinking about how it is meant to be used for something like Joists. Think of it as a great way to lay out individual ceiling tiles or lights in a banquet hall. Distribute with the Alternate edit mode then release and drag the mouse in the other direction and click again. ie. width and the length of room.
  18. Are you using the "Edit Layout Lines" tool and is the Cad, Default layer unlocked ?
  19. Did you understand what Michael said ? You can add a nested cad block to Cad Block Management but it will not be available in the Symbol DBX as an "Available Cad Block" to apply as a new 2D Block for your symbol. If you are editing an existing 2D cad block be sure to explode it and then make your additions or modifications and then reblock and name it.

  22. You likely need to talk to tech support in the morning but check if there is anything in the Knowledge Base link provided in the Error Warning. You could try looking in : C:\Users\User\Documents\Chief Architect Premier X12 Data\Toolbars And make sure the file is there. If for some reason it has been corrupted make a copy of the backup file and name it the same as the original and change the name of the potentially corrupt original to something else to isolate it. All at your own risk of course. And be sure that the error comes up consistently a second time before you do any fiddling around. I assume you got the error following Eric's instructions that are correct by the way ?
  23. You can save the plan file as a "Backup" and that includes all the texture files but you are better off to find a way to sync your library files in the long run as the Backup will include all the texture files and not just the new one you created for the plan.
  24. That looks like a bug to me but are you really putting in 76" casement windows ? Mulling a casement to a fixed glass makes more sense for what you are doing.
  25. Have a look at View > Tool Bars and View > Status Bar both are much more useful than the one you have selected, View > Scrollbars
