  1. It all depends on the roof pitch and rafter spans, required insulation and ventilation space on top of that and right over the supporting wall is usually the most critical place. It would be best to talk to a local contractor or building department for details. It will make more sense after you have framed and cut a cross section. It seems that you are now using X8 ? And sometimes it is helpful to have some computer specs in your signature if you run into performance issues and are asking those kind of questions on the forum, and anything else you care to share.
  2. If you can you are better to edit and add text with a PDF editor. Chief still has known issues with imported PDF's depending on the initial quality. And yes you must be quite careful how light of gray you use because it may not print. Usually just a pain but can sometimes be used to your advantage if you know where the cut off point is. If you have SSA it would not hurt to send it in to tech to make sure they are still working on the problem or at least keep it on the list of priorities. You could maybe trace over the lighter lines before you print if you are out of options and have a deadline.
  3. Open the Roof Plane or Build > Roof > Edit All Roof planes and then Structure-Roof Layers-Structure. I changed yours with the gable roof to 235 (2x10) and it seemed to help a lot but still not sure if that would meet structural requirements for your area. Account Settings > Signature.... X8
  4. Yes I agree the gable looks better and will keep the rain out for longer. You still have a structure and ventilation issue without addressing the rafter thickness and figuring out how to support the roof overhang.
  5. Ok I see the issue on the interior side now but it seems that even if it does not snow where you are your 87 mm rafters are not going to work for a cathedral ceiling in combination with the ICF wall. You will need a much thicker rafter and an interior attic filler wall that sits on top of the ICF. Would also be helpful to updated your signature.
  6. It appears as the top of that wall was edited in 3D or altered in some other way. Select the wall, open the DBX and go to the Structure tab and under Default wall Heights select Default Wall Top Height. Done Any other issues you need help with while the plan is open?
  7. Try to see if you can post a zip file that is under 25MB
  8. Just in case you are not aware, this is where Chief is at with their version of VR. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/3d-viewer/ https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/10163/incorporating-virtual-reality-into-your-design-business-demonstration.html?playlist=126
  9. Alan, Here is a unique solution that Kyle was working on a while back and sounds promising if you want to give it a try. I have not tried it yet but may be doing so soon as I have not transitioned to plan view notes totally and still see benefits of layout notes even when the advice is not to do it.
  10. Scott, Do you have any PDF's ? Are your boiler notes chief text ? What about your saved cameras, are any of them set to be live because chief is likely still having a white dream over every blank pixel. You could make a copy and randomly delete things until it speeds up.
  11. You will need to make a copy of the brick material and change the orientation by 90 deg. and apply that to the posts.
  12. How about a video? You have a bunch of great guys that want to help and I would not mind learning as well if I can't help.
  13. Johnny, Is that with "Auto Rebuild Attic Walls" turned on or off.
  14. By cad I mean just line drawing functionality rather than the "smart" features in Chief such as walls and (electrical) symbols etc.... Every symbol (3D) in Chief has a "2D Block" associated with it that will auto generate or can be customized that represents the item in floor plan (2D) and and these are all smart items. However all of these 2D Blocks also exist as "dumb" line drawings in CAD Block Management and can be inserted into your floorplan for use to represent symbols when there is a conflict with actually using a 3D symbol and it's associated 2D Block. And you could maybe go that direction if you don't get a response that is easier.
  15. There are some quite efficient ways to set things up for CAD but I believe that you need to use the electrical symbols to make the Material List or Electrical Schedule function properly. There are some other guys that specialize in electrical and maybe they will have some suggestions or there may even be a way to define a symbol as something other than electrical but that is a little above my current level of expertise. Hope we can find a solution for you.
  16. Are you hoping to use the Material list or Electrical Schedules or are you just looking for a CAD drawing?
  17. Did you shut down and reboot and then try opening the save as file? If that does not work look for a recent auto save file.
  18. Looks like a good option for your situation but not sure the 1080 is worth the extra money. Larry bought one recently and did not really notice much performance increase. The 1070 seems to be the best value right now for Chief.
  19. Thanks, Chris and Welcome. I think you deserve a point or two for that.
  20. Kyle, I finally have some leader lines detaching exactly like you first posted at the top of this thread. Looks like there is a new issue or I will also have to make the transition to notes in plan as has been advised. Any updates on your end?
  21. Yup there seems to be and issue. Not quite sure what it is though. That would have been a great material for my outhouse.
  22. I bet if this was Tuesday that would not happen. Is that a custom material of chief default? Maybe post the material and see if it is reproducible.
  23. Are they both drawn in the same view? Maybe try drawing item 2 as a poly line and converting to p-solid. Or convert both items to solids and subtract.

I think you will be fine to just leave them there and for your next plan they should not be in your template file. Just remember not to create them unless it is necessary, and do not save all the extras as a template plan.
  25. You are not actually going to delete the wall but put it on a unique layer in the plan and turn that layer off and then make a copy of the layerset and turn it back on and send to layout.
