  1. Thanks Michael, You are the Master of "Cad Detail From View" and I will have to start using this tool more as you always seem to do things with it that I have never thought of. Great tip!
  2. Depends on how accurate you want to be or need to be. Likely you have done it the best way with solids in 3D depending on the build. So if you can illustrate with line work and fills in the wall detail that should work fine for you just with cad and notes. But by all means open a test plan and explore the possibilities in the wall detail DBX.
  3. You can draw with cad onto your wall detail and label if you have already built your steel in 3D. Or you can convert and edit a stud or lintel with some auto profile options and then just paint in 3D. Sometimes I will mark and dimension beam intersections etc, just so things make sense on the wall detail.
  4. This is a little tricky but Michael makes it look easy here : Not too sure without the plan file but you could try turning off the rebuild of Attic Walls in defaults and then redefine the wall to not have drywall. Likely could be easily fixed with the Edit Wall Layer Intersections tool.
  5. Thanks guys for responding to my rant and providing some workarounds. These will help a lot if I can incorporate them into my plan. Eric, I will have to use method 2 as I have a multi level deck but I will keep method 1 handy for its simplicity. Sorry for the misunderstanding as you are using an extra set of walls that I did not understand until looking over your plan files, thank you for that. Yusuf, Your ramp railings seem to require a 1/2" standoff from the deck or bad things happen. Ingenious but not quite within acceptable tolerances for construction drawings. Have you come up with a solution for this since posting or is it just something I have not figured out properly as usual. Eric's methods seem to only require a 1/128" standoff which seems to be dependent on the wall thickness and may even be able to be reduced a little more. Still a few more things to work out. I think Eric's method 2 will work for my "T" top railing that is so common around here that I cant believe Chief does not have a simpler solution for it. Also my Newels may need to be mortised into the deck but I will have to see about that. Just saying there may be more to come here.... And thanks for all your help so far.
  6. Eric, You have me a little confused now that I tried your solution. A railing wall defined as No Room Def can not be controlled by adjusting the floor height of the room. Unless you left something out or I am not understanding. Because bad things happen when two railing walls touch. Also running into serious complications with deck stairs when adjusting floor heights. Seems there is no way to lock the stairs with the deck framing. So I am left with manually building the stairs or the railing. Humm.....
  7. Nice work Eric. I looked at the plan earlier and could not find an automatic solution in X8 so it looks like that might just be the best option. Also the glass shower walls can be pulled back with the Edit Wall Layer Intersections tool so they look better in 3D.
  8. In Premier we have a predefined Room Type called "Open Below" that does that for us also in the Room Specification DBX under the Structure tab you can turn off the ceiling for cathedral situations. Not familiar with all the features of HD Pro but there is a special forum for those questions as Eric just said.
  9. Sometimes F5 will bring them back or if it is more serious reboot. I assume you have a tool selected that detects snap points.
  10. Alan, I was going to tell you to lock the wall but I tried that and it does not work as one might expect it could. So my next best suggestion is to use the point to point tool and click on the rebar then go to the rebar that is already centered and drag out a centerline extension and click. Not as smooth as the center tool would be if it worked but doable. What is your best method for centering the original ?
  11. You must have missed this one Johnny :
  12. I Think I have some bad news for you as I reran an X9 test with No Shadows, No Bloom, and Ambient Occlusion set to 0% and the same 5400 frames in 5:55. So X9 is faster and seems to create a smaller file. CPU averaged about 22% and GPU about 26%. Or maybe if you do not care for Ambient Occlusion this may solve your problem. Give it a try. My X8 numbers were CPU 24% average and GPU 18% average. My X9 numbers were CPU 24% average and GPU 36% average with A.O. @ 100%
  13. There is some good stuff here that might help: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/14454-custom-tile-pattern/#comment-122825
  14. I don't think there is an easy solution for this yet but it can be done. Here are a couple of links to earlier threads and you can also search for more if you like.
  15. Ok so it appears that you are using the default x264vfw settings. Thank you for the Media Info, it is very extensive... Much more than windows provides. What is your source if I may ask. When I use the default x264vfw settings and then uploading to Youtube it will only register as 720p quality. Are you able to achieve 1080p somehow without post processing? Have you run this problem past tech support or did you come here first. I may have to check to see how much my video card is loading up as you did in your first post as mine is fairly new and may handle things better in X9.
  16. Your posted image does show grid lines at approximately 1" spacing on my screen that has 96 dpi resolution. It may just be that your screen is 72 dpi or at least something different than mine. Also it is interesting that light gray lines are often lost with chief with different screens and or printers as I have had things that show just fine on PDF and will not print which is something you need to be aware of but can also be used to your advantage if you know what is going on. Unfortunately I don't have it all figured out quite yet myself.
  17. Yes that looks great except that it is metric so hit copy and change the name and then change the 90mm to something like 140mm if that is what you can buy there for studding. Change the fill colour if you like to keep them identifiable.
  18. Typically the interior 4 will have a 3 1/2" framing layer so make a copy of that and call it interior 6 with a 5 1/2" framing layer.
  19. If you are in a rush to complete a set of drawings you can shift select all your text on the screen at once to change the layer. Just click the text tool once first. But the Anno Set system is the solution when you have time.
  20. Annotation sets control what layer your text and dimensions or cad etc... will be automatically placed on. You will need to do a bit of research to get it all figured out as it is rather complex and not setup by default unfortunately.
  21. I have been having some issues with my elevations and sections in layout using Plot Lines with Color fill. I thought it was from using the "Update all Views" function but also have had problems updating manually on view at a time. I have had siding pattern lines running over top of my wall mount electrical fixtures and also pattern lines on my panel doors not generating sometimes. If it is not a issue of layers like David is suggesting then try a manual update a couple of times and see what happens. I have sent this in to tech but they may need more information to get it figured out and fixed.
  22. I am updated to 19.3.1.7 and my tests were both run at 15fps but I do usually shoot a final view with shadows at 30Ffps and upload to YouTube for 720p quality. I would expect that the Ambient Occlusion takes extra rendering time in X9 and it was set to 100% where I usually have that dialed down quite a bit. I gave the x264vfw a try last night and ended up with a file that was more than 2.5 x larger than with Xvid codec. Are you able to record a video at better than 720p with x264 ? If so would you mind posting your x264 settings. Yes I think you are having some unusual slowness that needs to be figured out.
  23. Thanks for updating your signature.
  24. Same effect I suppose but I did not have to drag for some reason it just worked and rebuilt up.
  25. Also set the wall below to "Balloon Through Ceiling Above" and you should be fine.
