  1. You can sometimes get more information by clicking on the details tab and it may take you to an article on the subject but often there is nothing available. It does sound serious though as if your hard drive is corrupted or the files have been moved and can't be found. It might be wise to call tech support on this one and give them the error #.
  2. Thanks Robert, Those will work fine for now and for structure details until I can find a finished version.
  3. Would need a little more information to know exactly where you are at and where you would like to be, and confused about why there are "two dims on top of each other". Please illustrate if possible. If I understand at all where you are going with this you might want to look at some of Modest Michael's Macro's that allow custom labeling of cad (invisible wall) lines. Or just manually use the label feature. Free version : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/11669-michaels-custom-macros-tools-symbols-and-training-services/?do=findComment&comment=103199 Paid version : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/11669-michaels-custom-macros-tools-symbols-and-training-services/?do=findComment&comment=103706 You can also use a label with an elevation point and maybe even a macro. I quite often make a PDF directly from the plan file on preliminary stuff or single page projects. Works fine for me. Here is another video that I just watched that is about polyline labels that could be quite useful here : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/14010-dimension-notations-too-many-steps-for-something-that-could-be-so-simple/?do=findComment&comment=119659
  4. Don't give up Perry, If we all work together it will happen. I got a note back from my tech inquire today. " Thank you for contacting Technical Support, I checked with content and they currently are working on adding Parallel Strand Lumber to the core catalog, and one of these days you will see this new material in the Library Browser. " I have also been pushing for the ability to assign default materials for each type of framing member. No response on that yet though.
  5. If you are referring to the length and angle display for a cad line, that is controlled by text style that you are using for the cad line. You should set one up for each scale of survey you will be typically working with.
  6. Wow, Thanks Michael that was magic. I must have done everything else 30 times over including a reboot. Much appreciated!!!!
  7. I am trying my best to learn auto Roofs but seem to be having an issue with presetting in defaults the thickness of my rafters in the Structure tab. I can successfully change the width and even the material but not the Thickness. Also trying to add a layer of structural sheeting and a layer of rigid insulation but nothing seems to be read from the default settings when building or rebuilding the roof plane. Seems to be stuck at 31/2" for some reason. I just updated and still have the same behavior. Any ideas?
  8. Thanks Jerry I do have a call into Weyerhaeuser, so if they come through with something good I can maybe share it here but so far lots of stuff like this that would be pretty difficult to make a material file with unless it was 3D and I could turn it.
  9. Does anyone have a high res image or material file for PSL ( Parallel Strand Lumber ) that they would be willing to share or provide a link for? I have found several images I could use for end grain but will only have a few of those exposed. No luck searching for a flat image of the side. I would prefer a sanded, filled, stained, and sealed version but based on my searches today would settle for anything that looks good. My next project features exposed PSL Timber frame. Thanks In Advance.
  10. Once you have your defaults set for interior and also exterior as Eric posted then just re dimension and the select the wall that needs to move and then go to the dimension that needs to change then when the hand appears select and input the correct value.
  11. Sorry I looked at that too quickly. It is the exterior dimensions that will have to be adjusted to the wall surface and also you may need to reduce the size of your building that same amount.
  12. Looks to me that everything is as it should be. Your exterior dimensions are to the framing and your interior dimensions are to the drywall. If you change your dimension defaults as Eric is suggesting everything should work for you.
  13. Looks to me like your paper border. If so toggle the third tool from the top right on your screen and that should be gone.
  14. I may not have actually been an attic wall but was on the Attic level at that location on the Walls Invisible layer. Just delete on your plan file or if you can't find it download my fixed version.
  15. All better now. Just a little piece of residual attic wall to delete and it is fine now. Carver_5_08_17_fixed.plan
  16. Likely has something to do with how the side wall of the garage or attic side wall of garage joins into house. Try the Edit wall Intersections tool or post your plan file so someone can take a look for you.
  17. Dan, I am not quite sure what is going on but I seem to have lost scrolling function on the forum with my mouse roller wheel. I have recently changes some setup on my system but it seems to be working fine in other programs and even other web pages with my Chrome browser. It seems to work fine with Edge and IE 11. Is this happening to anyone else? Seems to be working fine today after windows update. Not quite sure what was going on.
  18. It appears as you might have stretch to fit selected. Maybe turn that off and define a Scale. If not post your plan.
  19. This was posted just last week. Not sure if you all saw it or not, there is a link to a video that Adrean did :
  20. I tried to record but had audio issues at the beginning and end so did not bother posting but I think we will likely have another workshop after people all play with this idea a bit more. My take would be to use points in a grid pattern for the existing terrain and then delete them (after making a cad detail from view of the original) as modifications are made in reconstruction areas.
  21. Sounds like the issue may come if both windows are not the same before mulling. But if you reset the offset after mulling it should stick when you select "Show Component Labels".
  22. I took a look at your plan and fixed a few things and identified a few other issues. Maybe we could work on it a bit together tomorrow. Send me a PM and maybe we could do a Skype session in the afternoon.
  23. Very Nice Rich, I would usually use a 10' grid on a large lot that does not need pinpoint accuracy and a 3' grid on a smaller lot or something that needs to be precise. 12.5' seems to have worked fine for your example. 2500 sq. ft. of paradise eh. Chief does work for terrains but I just wish it was a little easier to figure out the rules and control the variables.
  24. It seems to grey out but maintain the settings of the Mulled Window Offsets for me when selecting "Show Component Labels". Not quite sure what might be different for you. Do you care to post the plan or are you able to reproduce in a sample plan?
