  1. #1 sounds like a computer glitch for sure as it only seems to happen to some people but is not entirely uncommon. #2 could also be a computer or memory glitch and it sounds like "Display Angle Snap Grid" has been toggled on in Preferences > Snap Properties. #3 you may run into lots of issues with a procedure like that. Likely not a great idea to routinely recycle layout files. Take the time to start with a stock template and customize it to your liking and save it as a template to use to start each layout file. If you are having a lot of really odd stuff happen it is usually a good idea to save what you have and reboot your computer. Are you talking about the system in your signature as being older because if you are I am feeling older as well.
  2. You can always post your plan file and let us know what version you are using. Someone might enjoy the challenge.
  3. Looks like it may be a similar situation to this one posted not long ago. For future reference you can post .jpg or .png screen shots directly on the forum that don't need to be downloaded.
  4. I believe the system is now automated but not sure how long it takes to process and confirm payment. Worth checking your locker every once and a while I think.
  5. Things can get messy with truss labels but that does not seem correct. Any chance you have a duplicate truss? You can look at the detail sheet and make sure the count is correct. If it is not that maybe post the file for someone to take a look or send it in to tech.
  6. Not specifically the way chief's drop down toolbars are set up but there is still a lot that can be done with task specific floating toolbars or completely custom toolbar configurations that can be toggled with one click.
  7. You will need to download an older version of the sketchup file from the website so it is compatible with your older version of chief. Likely the 2016 or 2017 version will work fine. Sketchup will list the face count as "Ploygons" and once successfully imported chief will show it in the symbol DBX under 3D- Faces. The larger the number is the more detailed the symbol will be but will place a higher demand on your computer and eventually slow it down.
  8. The 3D Wharehouse is a good starting point. SKP files are mostly compatible with Chief. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/
  9. You can turn off Auto Rebuild Terrain in the 3D View Defaults dialog for 3D views and in the Sun Angle Specification dialog for sun shadows, and rebuild the terrain manually only when needed by selecting Terrain> Build Terrain . When Auto Rebuild Terrain is turned off and the terrain is not up to date, the Rebuild Terrain icon displays near your mouse pointer. See 3D View Defaults Dialog and Earth Data Panel. Hover over the Tool in question and press F1
  10. Draw it in elevation view and convert your polyline to a polyline solid, open the DBX and give it the required thickness then you can paint it or set the material properties. Next time you can post technical questions like this in General Q&A unless you are looking to hire someone.
  11. Unless you are thinking of upgrading soon you will need to rely on creatively placed cad masks and layering as we did before X10.
  12. There are sample plans you can download and use as reference on the website. It will also depend a lot on the nature of the project and the requirements of the jurisdiction you are building in what a finished set of drawings will look like. You can post in the Seeking Services forum for someone who is familiar with your local requirements if it is something you can't handle yourself. The nice thing about Chief Architect is you can quickly produce a basic set of permit drawings or fully illustrated construction document drawings with the same software.
  13. Try in Wall specifications Roof > "Lower Wall Type if Split by Butting Roof". If not post your plan file for professional help.
  14. You can do what you need with Solid Modeling Tools. It will be a bit slow at first until you get the hang of it. The bowls or lamp shades can be done effectively using the Revolve Object tool. Just draw a polyline that represents half of the section view and snap a face to it and revolve. Also helps to locate and model about the 0,0 point so calculations are not required for the dbx.
  15. Yup. No secondary dimension format for cad lines. So back to the suggestion forum I suppose.
  16. Yes but is there a way to associate the "Displayed Line Length Format" with the Annoset ? I quite often switch between metric and imperial plot plans and have to switch the way Diane just outlined.
  17. Mick, The Layer can control the text style but I was not aware it was capable of controlling the Displayed Line Length Format. I know we have been asking for it but how are you doing that ?
  18. It will depend on the size of your file and the content of it. Some of the typical things that slow down a layout are imported PDF's, Imported cad work, or live elevation views, high resolution images etc...
  19. It depends a lot on the content of your layout pages and what version of the software you are running but yes it does happen. You can post some of your critical computer specifications and current version in you signature so it is always there if you have performance questions.
  20. These instructions will be for Premier and I am not sure if Designer Pro has the same options. You will get better program specific answers on the HD forum if you post there. https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/ 1. Create a Perspective Floor Overview or Orthographic Floor Overview and then Switch to your 3D Framing Layer Set and go to 3D > View Direction > Top View. 2. You are most likely looking for a Wall Detail.
  21. Here is a view with the side walls controlling the corner posts and the problem of the end wall with multiple posts but for some reason a single in the center seems to work ok. You can reference this thread if you send this in to tech.
  22. It seems there is a bit of a glitch with doing a railing that way. You can force it to work if the configuration is similar to what you originally posted with a single center post in the end wall rail. Mine are set to " Post to Ceiling" but you will need to make the side walls (railings) control the corner posts by manipulating the corners with the "Wall Layer Intersections" or the "Through Wall at Start/ End" settings. Play with it a bit and if you find that the end wall railing will not work with any thing other than a center post please send it in as a bug.
  23. It does seem to be possible if you raise the ceiling.
  24. If the slab is not defined by the room it will need to be moved independently. If you post your plan Eric will take a look if he has a moment.
  25. Looks like you need to enter a negative value for your Floor (C). Default is 0
