  1. As always thinking outside of the text box. Thanks for sharing Michael. Got a few things to rebuild now.
  2. Only if you are using a cad block and not the 2D cad block that is associated with the symbol as far a I know. Insertion points do not carry over to the symbol but it sure would be great if they did. Would make a great suggestion unless you can demonstrate that it works. It would certainly resolve the three bladed fan issue.
  3. Yes you can use the Symbol Offset settings to align things that Michael briefly noted in the video introduction. Not aware of all of the issues with using that method but they will likely show themselves as you are working through it. I think it is just more work than most people are willing to do. Possibly @Alaskan_Son would be able to elaborate on the issues.
  4. Here is Michael's Method. If you have something that works better Glenn, please let us know.
  5. Place a small dot (very short line) in the cad block such that the receptacle is in the center of the bounding box. Unfortunately I don't think there is a way to make it completely invisible yet.
  6. I think Tommy was on the right track but it may actually be the roof framing that is controlling the dropped soffit. If you have framed the roof turn roof framing on in your camera view and you will see the problem if that is what is going on.
  7. Aamir use the same procedure with a Molding Line rather than a Molding Polyline and you should be fine.
  8. Hi Greg, Thanks for modeling and posting the symbol. Curious though as it seems that .skb is not compatible with X11. Did Sketchup not announce that in time for chief to respond?
  9. Ray, Change the file extension to .skp and you should be in business. Hope you are feeling better soon. All the best to you.
  10. Use an image or 3D text for you own custom signs. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/3d-library/index.php?r=site/detail/639 You can also create your own 3D text from a custom font if you like or just draw it with cad and make a psolid.
  11. You may need to give it a little more time for the right person to respond but I would not hesitate to contact tech support or one of the users that has a really good grasp of the software. You will need to use your elevation and section views along with cad detail from view to analyze roof details. There is a new feature called "Convert Selected to Symbol" in X11 that may be quite useful in breaking down assembly pieces. Some of the automatic features in the software that make it faster to draw a structure may actually cause issues with what you need to accomplish but it is really surprising what can be done with the rest of the tools when there is a clear end goal. Keep us informed of your progress as I am sure there are others that aspire to do the same.
  12. You can export to .DWG or .DXF or straight to .STL so it would just be a mater of proper preparation of the model and compatible software for the CNC tooling. Hopefully someone can comment that has actually done it but in theory it should be possible.
  13. Yes thanks for jumping in there Larry as I initially thought we were going the other direction. Yes there are a lot of automatic features in chief to try to understand. Wall settings can control a roof but roofs will automatically terminate a wall.
  14. You can drag the roof plane over manually or to keep auto roofs on you can open the supporting wall DBX and set the overhang in the roof tab.
  15. I think that may be a limitation in Home Designer but I would post on the Home Talk forum for a better answer. https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/
  16. Ok that is one of the more demanding features but what are you recording. I just ran a test and I realize my card is not a ti as I bought it just before they came out. PBR recording at 1080p of over 2,000,000.00 surfaces on my machine uses about 1 GB of the available 8 for Dedicated GPU Memory. Although it does nearly max out the 3D capabilities of the card.
  17. I think that is just a typo but I am curious what you might have been doing in Chief that could possibly cause this if it is true.
  18. The ceiling plane was another of Eric's ideas for the soffit area. The interior room should be able to provide a ceiling inside the building.
  19. There is usually more than one way to skin the cat so you don't have to sleep in the doghouse. Good Work. I think that was Perry's alternate when the interior ceiling is not exposed.
  20. Oops... Maybe the ceiling plane idea was a better approach.
  21. Nice work. That seems like it would be similar to the ceiling plane suggestion but maybe even easier ? Apply the Ship Lap material to the soffit and Define the Material as Material List Calculation "Area".
  22. Adam, If you have any issues figuring it out give me a shout.
  23. Not quite the way you have it in your detail. However you can fake it in 3D if you don't have a fascia board by flipping the soffit material up directly under the sheathing.
  24. I did not realize the ESC key worked for that function as I have always used the Space Bar. Possibly you have worn out the key on that keyboard from all your ACad use.
