  1. While browsing the forum a bit I noticed down in the lower left hand corner it shows who is currently browsing the forum... Among those names was "Google". I thought I'd double check what exactly "Google" was doing and it seems they were viewing the "community index". What exactly is the community index?? I really don't want random 3rd parties viewing my semi-personal information (name, where I'm from, birthday, hobbies, etc.). Not a huge deal, but if that information is included in the "community index" I may really prefer to change or delete some things accordingly.
  2. So, just ignore it or don't participate right??
  3. I totally disagree. It essentially adds a tool other than post count to help gather information about a persons experience, knowledge, and involvement. Neither are a perfect scale, but they're better than nothing especially in combination. Limiting negative votes to one per day is an excellent way to control vendettas and keep things positive as well.
  4. Joe, on the bottom right hand side of each post (except your own) are 2 arrows. You can vote any given post up or down 1 point based on its usefulness and thereby give that person a reputation point. In another thread Dan was encourages us all to use them.
  5. I know...whats up with that!? Scott got a point for quoting my post in another thread without adding any insight. Maybe he's just loved by his adoring fans : )
  6. I initially attached a bad example of what I was talking about and so I changed the picture to a more suitable situation. I would prefer to use cabinets for that situation because they're more customizable than a half wall, and countertops and mouldings are both automatic. Im not going to argue with you, you know how you build things, I don't, but in your particular attached example, I would think those would end up being built with cabinets anyway as they're covered with wood. I would think conventional framing with wood panel overlyas would actually be more expensive and less efficient. Just my 2 cents.
  7. You can add a moulding to the cabinets via the cabinet mouldings tab. Am I missing something?? Edit: I just realized you used the half-wall tool and not cabinets. I would use cabinets for that "halfwall" and then apply the moldings to those cabinets.
  8. Sounds like a user error of some sort, but it's hard to be certain without seeing the plan. Can you attach the plan?? Is one of your layers possibly turned off?? Where did you get the particular symbol?? If it's a standard Chief symbol, which one was it??
  9. I think the room divider was designed to be exactly as its named...to DIVIDE rooms not to create them.
  10. Okay. Thank you Dan. That was super helpful. I don't foresee any reason I would be without internet access for more than 2 weeks so I think a hardware lock would be unnecessary. The only thing I could possibly see being an issue to consider is a massive grid failure. In that case though it would seem using Chief Architect may not be a very high priority : )
  11. I need some clarification on the issue of which type of lock to use, when, and some other related issues. I'm considering getting a laptop to run Chief so I can work in the field, when away on trips, etc. To date I have only ever run Chief on one single PC in my office and have pretty much always had an internet connection so I've never been concerned with the "lock" issue. My questions would be these... 1. If I'm going to start using a laptop will I need to get a hardware lock?? 2. Is the hardware lock the only way to get Chief to run without an internet connection?? I live in Alaska, and so lack of WiFi is definitely a potential problem when traveling. 3. Can I use both types of lock back and forth and how much of a hassle will that be?? 4. Any other input would be greatly appreciated.
  12. Christopher, What are your time limit settings?? See attached screenshot. If you have it set as "no limit", the ray trace will never "finish"
  13. Not sure if this is the issue or not, but in the old forum, posting in the chatroom didn't contribute to your post count. May be the same here. Were you perhaps posting in the chatroom when you're posts weren't being counted??
  14. That sounds like flawed logic. When do you figure "the deal is made"?? Isn't that akin to the old bait and switch?? Oh well...I won't argue with you. As soon as I saw it posted though I gave the info to a friend of mine who has mentioned wanting to buy Chief several times over the past few years but likely couldn't afford it at full price. I would be a little upset if he told the OP he'd take it just to have the OP say "someone told me I should be asking more so it's this much instead." I would also feel bad for having wasted someone's time on a Sunday for no reason. That's just me though.
  15. The price has already been offered. It wouldn't seem right to change it now. I guess maybe if there hadn't been any offers to buy it yet that it might be okay. I would be surprised if it lasted this long though at that price.
  16. Problem with searching the old forum is that due to advances and general changes in the software, a very large amount of the information out there is outdated and misleading. I think starting fresh would actually be wise idea.
  17. more knowledgeable than you : )
  18. You WOULD say that Mr. 12 posts to my 9
  19. I find it extremely useful in getting an idea of how new a person is, how involved they are, how experienced they are, etc. It may not always be accurate, but it is definitely useful in my opinion.
