  1. Hmmm...I guess that still leaves you with a patch required underneath the bay window. It definitely seems buggy because if you change that main wall type to delete the pony wall, open the bay window dbx and change it to something other than "use main wall type", open the main wall again and add the pony wall, it will draw correctly in the preview pane, but as soon as you close the dbx the brick (or whatever you use for the pony wall) builds all the way around the bay window again.
  2. I was actually able to recreate the same thing before you attached the plan. The only way I seemed to be able to get it to work right was to break the exterior wall on either side of the bay window and then change the wall type for the section the bay window was in. Otherwise, it doesn't seem to matter what wall type you use, the brick will automatically continue.
  3. No...but my previous post may have. You have that much more of a program and a newer version. The home designer product you were using was likely built on an older software platform optimized for older systems and likely wasn't near as taxing on the video card as X6. Add to that all the extra features and graphics options (which can be heavily taxing dending on your settings) and you get slowness. You may want to go through and double check some of your settings depending on what exactly you mean by "slow". To start with, is it slow in plan view, slow in 3D, or slow in both??
  4. Steve, on further review, I realized your PC processor is actually below the minimum 2.4 GHz required by Chief, and that much further below what is recommended.
  5. In my opinion the PC you described is painfully lacking. I think you'll find anything less than what you see in my signature line will be relatively slow, and the upgrade from the home version brought with it a lot more features which are bound to slow the program down. Plus, I'm assuming the new software is designed to run optimally with a newer system, and older systems won't run the new program as well as they did the older one. I would also look at your video card on that PC. Bottom line, I think your system is outdated and could use a substantial upgrade. I can't give any answer regarding the Mac as I have zero experience on that subject and even the good folks at Chief are relatively new to the territory.
  6. They look the same to me as well. Only thing I see is that the lines separating the bricks don't show in perspective view. Is this what you're referring to??
  7. Thanks Dan. That answered my question.
  8. I'm sorry, I could be wrong, but it seems you and Brian have both side stepped the point of my question... Can Google or any other search engine view our personal profile or signature information?? I realize its a public forum and that any passer by can stop in and look at that information, but having that info available to a search engine is a very different thing.
  9. If you still have X3 downloaded did you try to open it with that?? If you can, open it AND save it with X3 and then open that new file with X6. Just an idea.
  10. You can also drag the thumbnail view up to a new tab.
  11. I haven't read the book, but cloud technology has always seemed highly suspect to me as its negative possibilities are enormous and the likelyhood that technology will be abused is all but certain. I pretty much never use any cloud based services with the VERY occasional exception of dropbox. On a partly related subject...As a builder I am required to have certification from one of the 3 letter federal government entities for completing work on certain houses. Well, when I registered my information with them, I must have mistakenly entered one of the letters in the middle of our company name as a capital letter (AlasKan instead of Alaskan). Either that or they did, because when they responded to me, it was to "AlasKan". At any rate, ever since then, I have received a HUGE amount of fear mongering emails selling products related to federally mandated code adherence addressed to the misspelled company name. Its borderline disgusting.
  12. Thanks Brian, but you didn't fully answer the question... What is the "community index"?? Is that simply the threads themselves or can search engines also gather info from our profiles and signatures??
  13. While browsing the forum a bit I noticed down in the lower left hand corner it shows who is currently browsing the forum... Among those names was "Google". I thought I'd double check what exactly "Google" was doing and it seems they were viewing the "community index". What exactly is the community index?? I really don't want random 3rd parties viewing my semi-personal information (name, where I'm from, birthday, hobbies, etc.). Not a huge deal, but if that information is included in the "community index" I may really prefer to change or delete some things accordingly.
  14. So, just ignore it or don't participate right??
  15. I totally disagree. It essentially adds a tool other than post count to help gather information about a persons experience, knowledge, and involvement. Neither are a perfect scale, but they're better than nothing especially in combination. Limiting negative votes to one per day is an excellent way to control vendettas and keep things positive as well.
  16. Joe, on the bottom right hand side of each post (except your own) are 2 arrows. You can vote any given post up or down 1 point based on its usefulness and thereby give that person a reputation point. In another thread Dan was encourages us all to use them.
  17. I know...whats up with that!? Scott got a point for quoting my post in another thread without adding any insight. Maybe he's just loved by his adoring fans : )
  18. I initially attached a bad example of what I was talking about and so I changed the picture to a more suitable situation. I would prefer to use cabinets for that situation because they're more customizable than a half wall, and countertops and mouldings are both automatic. Im not going to argue with you, you know how you build things, I don't, but in your particular attached example, I would think those would end up being built with cabinets anyway as they're covered with wood. I would think conventional framing with wood panel overlyas would actually be more expensive and less efficient. Just my 2 cents.
  19. You can add a moulding to the cabinets via the cabinet mouldings tab. Am I missing something?? Edit: I just realized you used the half-wall tool and not cabinets. I would use cabinets for that "halfwall" and then apply the moldings to those cabinets.
  20. Sounds like a user error of some sort, but it's hard to be certain without seeing the plan. Can you attach the plan?? Is one of your layers possibly turned off?? Where did you get the particular symbol?? If it's a standard Chief symbol, which one was it??
  21. I think the room divider was designed to be exactly as its named...to DIVIDE rooms not to create them.
  22. Okay. Thank you Dan. That was super helpful. I don't foresee any reason I would be without internet access for more than 2 weeks so I think a hardware lock would be unnecessary. The only thing I could possibly see being an issue to consider is a massive grid failure. In that case though it would seem using Chief Architect may not be a very high priority : )
