I get into this same situation with dormers when I try and just use a hole in the roof plane when I only have that very narrow section of roof at the peak like you do. Michael's suggestion is the way I usually have to resolve it - make the roof plane 2-sections.

Always good to have a little comedy relief.

Gave you a point for that one Michael. Like the other guys said, that makes my head swim. How did you ever figure that one out? Wait ... don't tell me ... I probably couldn't handle that either at this point. Do you actually work or just sit back and dig into CA while telling your wife you work?

I think they've fixed floor and ceiling elevations.
Ridge_Runner replied to Richard_Morrison's topic in General Q & A
That would be the ideal way to work. I have templates set up with different defaults to start new plans from. However, in our area most of the work I do (not all) is in non-code areas and the joist supplier does the floor system engineering with their software. I have to have my plans almost finished before I can even send it to them for the floor design. Plays havoc with my time when I send it out expecting 11 7/8" joists and find out they sized the entire floor at 14" or greater depending on what mood they are in and what direction they run the joists. Just finished one they did that to. Had to rework everything affected (a general note would not have worked on this one). That one is always a problem. -

I live over in southern middle Tennessee. Precuts here for nominal 8' ceiling are 92 5/8" like Joe showed in his post. -
I'm like Chopsaw. I now understand what's going on (thank you Glenn) but I probably would have never thought to add the invisible "rooms" where you added them, Glenn. Thank you for your invaluable contribution to this forum and this software.

Good advice. I did this years ago to avoid this issue.

"Seems they also want them for bathrooms, bedrooms and just about everywhere a good old hinged door used to go." Pinterest! A good friend sometimes and sometimes my worst enemy!

This is good to know as I am probably going to need a new machine some time this year. Thanks Graham, and so many others, who contribute so much to this forum.

I do the same as Jon; works great to do what you want to do. I use a line weight of 75 but that is person preference.

How to display rough openings at window label?
Ridge_Runner replied to MarkDW's topic in General Q & A
Made me laugh, Alan. -
Dermot, please help me understand what is going on. Larry has a door problem and he is to open the window defaults to correct it?

Those details appear to be using Simpson's products. They should be available from Simpson's site. I have used their CAD details before but they will need to be modified for your line weights, font, text size, etc.

Isn't it funny that years ago, you know when we used paper and pencil to prepare condocs (some on here don't know what that is I bet ) we used to adjust text smaller all the time to fit the allotted space. Now everything has to be so precise and "perfect." Not sure if we have moved forward or entered a world where everything is just too perfect and complicated.

I get this sometimes still. I just tried it again and it worked this time. Drew a siding wall, added door, added sidelites, added transom. Blocked door and sidelites and then blocked that unit with the transom. I have done it that way for years like ChiefChris1 said. But it does not always work and I don't know why. In some plans it is just contrary.

I think that was "the fix" best I remember.
-
I think the problem I remember with that one is you can't select the offending door or window in the view you are wanting to hide them in.

Commercial Building - Looking for some Suggestions

That's most of my struggle! You can make a silk purse out of a sow's ear if you have enough funding. -
Commercial Building - Looking for some Suggestions

Nice design, Robert. Yours, or someone else? For me, the hardest type of building to put a good design on is a warehouse type - you know, the old "silk purse out of a sow's ear" type thing. -
That's the way we work here also. The truss guys spec the Simpson clips, in our case, based on the uplift.
-
I really like this technique. Too bad color printing is so expensive in my area. Maybe someday, but we will probably have an entirely different paradigm of how we share condocs with the different end users by the time "someday" comes.

I kind of like this; instant landscaping and foundation plantings.

I downloaded a good looking track from 3D Warehouse; I think it was one done by "Krownlab." There were several to choose from. Some were not so great and some were "over the "top." As always, be careful of the higher polygon count and file size as they can slow Chief down - but some of them look great! You can use any door symbol you choose. I add notes in the Object Information dbx of the doorway to get it into the schedule.

It appears they have hammered over the tops of the standing seam to fit under the shingles. I wonder if that is in the "manufacturer's suggested installation method?"

So, Mark, she is the CFO? I thought so from another thread you commented on a little ways back on a new hardware purchase (or the wish to purchase).
