  1. Are you guys going to still hang around after retiring so all of us peons can still benefit from your "vast knowledge of CA?"
  2. Mick, I kind of like the flame pattern on the chair; gives it a "shimmering, satin look."
  3. Greg, if you really want to show the tapered bents they can be done pretty quick with polyline solids in elevation. I have done all kinds of irregular shapes from bents in prefabbed buildings to timber-framed structures. Draw the web, then the flanges, go to plan view and center them, block them and then mirror them for a bent line. Block the two halves and then transform replicate it for how ever many you want. Doesn't take very long to do. One simple trick I have learned is to first place a very tall and wide slab larger than the half bent. If not, you may have to "hunt" where CA put them in space. If you draw the bents with the slab behind them the PS will build right in front of the slab - easy to find.
  4. If you go this route make sure you attach a double layer of the PVC to the bottom of the duck board runners to cut down on the damage to the lower covering.
  5. If I repurpose them then the CAD blocks that use them will have "weird" layers for their various CAD lines. I guess that would not be so traumatic; someone would just get a good laugh if they ever opened one of my plans and unblocked one of the old blocks.
  6. Not silly at all. I want to delete some old CAD layers that have accumulated over the years that I no longer use. I can't delete them with items on them.
  7. Is there a way to move all of the CAD items on an existing layer to another layer for the entire plan? I am cleaning up some of my layers to simply the list. Over the years my layers have grown and I have some CAD blocks with lines on an old layer that I would like to move to a newer layer and then delete the old layer. For instance: I would like to move all of the CAD on an old layer named "CAD line size 25" over to a newer layer named "CAD 25." If it could be done then I could delete the old layers I no longer use. I have tried but have not been successful without exploding a block first; that would be a nightmare for all of the CAD blocks I have accumulated. But maybe I am missing something or it is so simple I am overthinking it. It would also be helpful if there was a way to determine which blocks use a certain layer. If so then only those blocks would have to be redone. Thanks in advance.
  8. I think it may have something to do with minimum wall lengths. CA has always been finicky to me in this area.
  9. Break the right wall about the center of the left wall. Click the small, lower wall on the right one and reverse it on the edit button so CA thinks it is a different wall. Then drag the left wall over; it should stick.
  10. Same here. I finally docked my edit toolbar back to the bottom and just left it. I still float a custom architectural toolbar with a child toolbar floated beside it; that works better for me than having them docked all around the screen; too much distance to travel with the mouse from one end of the screen to the other. I can move my floating toolbars and cut down on the mouse travel considerably.
  11. Good one! I feel your pain. I have used this software for many years and some days I am right where you are now.
  12. Don't forget Eric (Solver); I learn a lot from him also. Please, the rest of you who help so much, please don't be offended if your name is not mentioned. This was a dangerous question to ask.
  13. Thank you, Eric, for your willingness to share your "secrets." Like Nestor, some of these things are not easy to understand "why." Those of you who delve into the depths of this software are a gem to the rest of us. Thank you. Mike Blackwood
  14. Thanks, Mick. I went into my similar X9 folder but could not find the file I was looking for with a jpg extension (which was the extension the error dbx showed). I did find the file with a png extension. I went into my edit plan material dbx and went to browse for the file; I was able to locate it OK but when I tried to select it (the png version) it would not add the file to the dbx. I was able to select the png file but it would never show as being used in the material dbx. I will try again. Thanks for the help.
  15. Would one of you be so kind and check your normal map location for CA's "Ship-Lap(litegrey)" material in the: Core Catalogs\Materials\Siding & Paneling\Ship-Lap\ ? Following Eric's suggestion I looked in the path for that material and, sure enough, it is set to that crazy D: location. So, I would like to know where your material is set to since I would not have set mine to that mystical location, especially since it is a Core Catalog material.
  16. I will check the path, Eric. Thanks Varies from the one to several. I mainly get the multiple files message when I do a full backup of the layout file. The dbx I show above is when opening 3D camera views. Will check further. I am beginning to think the issue is related to updated catalogs. When I get the multiple files dbx they are typically stone textures from the Manufacturer's library, Coronado I think. They may have discontinued or updated some of the textures with the last update, possibly with a different name.
  17. Dbx came back. Opened another overall camera view and got the same message. It's not too big a deal but it sure is aggravating.
  18. Thanks, Mick. I went in and reset the Search Folders per your suggestion and then opened another camera overview. I didn't get the "missing textures" dbx; I hope that was it. Still don't know how that path could have ever been included in the search options. Thanks again.
  19. For some time now I have been receiving this message when I open camera views. The missing textures list varies from one to multiple missing texture elements, like this normal map. What is confusing is my D: drive is a DVD drive. I have never loaded any textures from this drive. All of my textures come from either CA or the internet, never from a DVD. Any ideas why this might be happening? BTW, when I backup the file with a full backup the so-called missing normal map is in my textures folder on my C: drive.
  20. I guess that cuts down on the forum discussions some, at least till X11 rumors start.
  21. That's incredible! I wouldn't want to tackle this one if I was a newbie (or an oldie) to the program, especially in a time crunch, and I have been using Chief since '97! Decks aren't exactly my favorite item to work in CA.
  22. Mick, is this a typo with the 1050Ti as your sig says 1070Ti, or do you have it on another machine? Is this driver stable so far? I haven't updated mine yet (1050Ti) as I don't have too may problems with the video card but I am on Win 7 Pro still. I just don't want to move to Win10 until I have to (probably with a new build).
  23. I know it does it in X9; not sure about X8.
