Simply put, Chief and Sketchup, have huge capabilities but in comparison they're two different programs and they don't pose each other a threat. You can do similar but different things with each in different ways. Some things can be done in both Chief and Sketchup and some things cannot, some things can be made faster in one program in comparison to the other and some things cannot. Chief is more oriented in Architectural ,CAD and Blueprint... Sketchup is more oriented in 3D Modeling,Dynamic components, etc. I have been using both (Chief since it was made by Broderbund I think it was called 3D Home Architect or something like this, and Sketchup I been using since mid 2003/4) and in conjunction they make up a nice package to basically do anything quick and efficient.

If I'm not mistaken, you select the wall polyline and you open dbx, go to Roof and at the bottom select Lower Wall Type If Split By Butting Roof and you have the option to select the wall type you want it to be on the inside.

I select counter top, select fill style, (default is solid) and I increase the transparency to the effect you want to see the chair under it and the chair under the countertop area will be displayed slightly shaded indicating being bellow the counter. I hope it helps

We have a set wind load load design based on the municipality and it ranges from 90-120 mph, roof snow load is 20 psf. As joist design goes, I always use 2x10 lumber so I set that in my plan default for every design and second floor ceiling are always 2x8 with strong backs.

I agree with you Rich that is important feature to have it displayed and I'm sure the manual process is a pain in the a$$, hopefully this can be added in the future, and make it work something like you add corners to the house, it will attach the leaders to the corners where needed with a click.

Hi everyone, I hope you had a good July4th. Is there anything in the software to automatically install leaders on the house? Or even doing them manually is there anything in the library for that? I don't believe I've seen anything to create them or anyone using them.... what you guys do if anyone does them to show up in rendering view. Thanks!

This is what I get, 1st picture I Select Ambient Occlusion and I check Use Sunlight, 2nd picture all default settings, and it comes out a bit darker.

Mick, I didn't touch anything on that side, here is the picture of his original plan, this is under the garage area, the floor is there but its missing the rim joist. I didn't mess with that, so what ever he got going on there have to be addressed.

Ross, I am in the rush to leave, I don't know what the hell I did, but I know I deleted a small piece of the roof that was popping up there and deleted some walls and extended a few others, and the roof was out of whack in a few places, I straightened out that and it seems everything got fixed. Here is the plan, maybe whatever I did will make something out of whack inside, I don't have time to check, so maybe you or anyone can figure that out... When I get home I'll see what happened inside, if nothing than you got the fix. 3 Car Spec_fix.plan

Mick, I would be upgrading to Bosch bluetooth also, I use the measuring tool now without it and I talk to many contractors all over the country and overseas and it seems that the majority prefer Bosch and they swear Bosch being the best and most accurate measuring device out there compare to most others, not to mention very reasonably priced. Just looking at the list of products they make, one of the best know names on the market like Freud, CST Berger, etc Here is the list of others, it just shows quality.

Joey, your typical deck bracing is 2 feet below the bottom of the joists or girder at a 45-degree angle to the beam and joists. You don't really need to resize the braces for the deck and reuse the same one for all deck applications.

Greg, when you get your walkthrough path drawn use the break (#3key) to break the path and you will have additional handles to curve it or shape it any which way you like and you can add more breaks and cameras as you go to get the path you need.

Roger, like Mick said, everything in Self created library is lost, if you don't have that backed up, you have to start all over again.

Greg I do the whole path and after using Add Key Frame tool I add as many cameras along the path as I need and face them any which way you want, adding extra cameras around the turns for smoother turning. I hope it helps.

Denis, I use to do the same, but I do this for almost every job, so I finally got a handle on it.

What Denis said... but the way I do it which is much faster because you eliminate all that copying over, I go into the library pick moulding profile, right click on it and select Place Moulding Profile... Bring all the profiles I need into a section view and stack them any which way you can, you can break them up and modify any which way you can, etc when got the look you need, block them and add to your library. Larry, this is a good idea and this videos become very useful if you need to reference something down the road...it's at your finger tips. Using videos is how I learned pretty much all the tricks in CA, not to mention this blog, so many helpful tips and tricks. I also subscribed to your Youtube, you have lots of helpful videos and very easy to follow... Thanks for that!

Larry the only thing I can suggest to try is right click the CA icon and run as administrator...and try to open that file again. I hope it helps.
