  1. Thanks Dave, nice to see you still kicking around!!! Happy New Year to you!!!
  2. You pretty much built your stairs, select Style> Open Underneath and draw your wall or put put cabinets under there or anything else you like. Also select stairs and in DBX under fill select None so you can place your items manually. Here is a sample with a bathroom under it. I hope it helps.
  3. I been using Camtasia for about 3-4 years, great program for video editing, you can separate video and audio, you can make presentations, put videos together, special effects, etc. They came out with a few newer versions since then free of charge. I mean there is so much you can do with it, I can't list it all. Snagit is good if you want something simple to make a quick clip, etc.
  4. Merry Christmas to all the Chiefsters and Happy New Year!
  5. x2 What Scott said, I always put awning abstract window, this way you get privacy, light and it can be open if desired for extra ventilation.
  6. Using construction calculator if you convert 4' X 8' into mm to be exact you get 1219.2mm X 2438.4mm Joe is right it would create a big mess in the USA.
  7. You right Perry, I see it on decks here. etc you attach a simple deck to a house it will put 8 footings where in reality you would need 3-4... As this little dilemma goes, it could be a bug.... But it seems in some situations and I see a lot on the plans that some guys post in here, that if you try to build something the way you would never do it in reality, something gets screwed up along the lines, whether this being a roof, attic wall or something else.
  8. I never use them, around here trusses only used on tract home or condo or townhouse developments.
  9. I think the reason CA does that is because you would never frame this way in reality. Why would you build one roof on top of another, and what will carry that roof load when it lands in the mid span of the main roof. You have an open kitchen below and the rest is the bedrooms. You have overall rafter length almost 20' and you dropping porch roof right on top of it. Maybe CA thinks there should be a ridge beam and that is why it comes out that way. IMO this is not a bug, because if you frame that roof as you would frame it normally in a situation like this, CA does what it suppose to do... But what do I know
  10. I think it will work, it should... it's working right now with x7 but only zoom-in and zoom-out functions but not the orbit function. In the X8 video they have orbit function working in camera view, I would assume it should work in both (plan and camera) I checked 3Dconnexion page if they added compatibility notice for CA but not yet, I think after they do a driver update it will work with X7 as well.
  11. Select them all and drop/drag it into Chief as you would do with PDF or anything else.
  12. Joe,thank you very very much!
  13. Hey fellow Chiefsters I hope everyone is up and kicking... There was a post here recently on how to set up "a numbered callout " I believe an invisible plant was part of that setup so each time a callout is dropped into the plan, the number will change i.e 1,2,3, etc. I think it was Joe, Perry or Larry showed how to set this up and there is a video of that floating someplace, but I can't find it. If anyone has an idea where it might be, could you post a link please or a video, because I tried to set it up on my own, and I get pretty much everything done and but I think I'm missing something because it seems I can't get it to work. Thanks in advance and have a good weekend!
  14. I know some manufacturers make them, but never seen one yet being installed. You can take a double window from a 3D warehouse upload to sketchup and make a triple hung from it and import into CA as window, that should work.
  15. 3d warehouse has a large selection of Simpson hangers including 3d hold downs, I usually get them from there as needed. Also if you need a specialty hanger and they don't have it, try contacting Simpson Engineering Technology Department, and say you been to a 3d warehouse and you cannot find a certain hanger there for a project and you need to display that on the 3D model and see if they have it... if not there is a good chance they will make it for you. They just made me a DTT1Z tension hanger I needed for a project, they made it and send it to me within a few days. Good luck
  16. I hope the same Perry, you experienced, knowledgeable and a great asset to CA community, not to mention a great guy... so I hope you be around for another 100 years.
  17. Double click Roof Icon, select Frieze and adjust attributes to what you need.
  18. I think so far windows 10 is the best window system they came out with... although XP Pro I was running before the upgrade wasn't to bad, I never had any issues with it as well... and now Windows 10 system runs like a Swiss Clock, no issues what's so ever since the upgrade. Would definitely recommend it without thinking twice.
  19. Must be something with your PC or I'm not sure what format you saved the file or what format you used to export. I downloaded into Sketchup Pro 2016 and saved it in Sketchup 2013 SKP format and imported to CA without issues. SDMO Generating Set.calibz
  20. Denis I'm not sure what you trying to do. If you dealing with a corner and you cannot use a corner cabinet which comes in 33" or 36" you can order a corner kit from most kitchen manufacturers, which come with a face frame and already attached toekick, with side panels and the bottom shelf which can be trimmed to any size.
  21. This is a typical raised roof as you would see it on many cape cod homes... the only bad thing about it, it's not feasible to have the framing done this way, it's not a practical way of doing it.
  22. Go into a Default Settings>Dimension>Auto Exterior Dimensions and select how you want the dimensions to be displayed.
