  1. I export the model from CA to Sketchup and use Thea renderer from there
  2. Post a plan would help to help you. Or pull another roof from that wall and join the roofs.
  3. Is that what tile guys do now days in reality, they move walls so they don't have to cut tiles?
  4. You don't need Inkscape, do a top view in sketchup, add one longest dimension so you have a gude and export as JPEG (it will look something like the picture #1 attached) and drop that image into Chief. Use point to point tool over that dimension in CA and do point to point over 70'8 and I have 31'11".( follow steps in image #2) Now when you trace over that dimension ( 70'8) your wall will be the same length. Now you can trace over that plan (image #3)
  5. You should have 1/2" space around it to meet the code and it should be wrapped so its not in direct contact with masonry if it makes any difference to show that or note that on your drawings.
  6. Glen thank you for the video! I got it... I totally missed that in Preferences, I looked in there over and over and I went right over that. Thanks fellas!!!
  7. Thanks Yusuf! I been there and there is nothing for that. You cannot even zoom in closer in Perspective full view also. There is probably a limitation on how close you can zoom in.
  8. I just notices in X7 I was trying to zoom in close on the area of the house to Render from a top view and it stopped at this point (picture attached) I cannot get any closer after that point. Is there a restriction set on the zoom how close you can go in Perspective View? Or is there is a setting that controls that? So I uploaded the model into Sketchup and ran a quick render with SK and I can zoom the model in as close as I want on any portion of the house any which way, Picture #2.
  9. Check and make sure you have floor thickness set in dbx... any type of hovering happens when there is flat layer on top of another layer, and hovering goes away as soon as you set thickness to a layer.
  10. This was after 12 passes 25 min I changed a few materials because none of the originals from the plan were showing up
  11. Try this Amie and that should work
  12. Thanks Dave, nice to see you still kicking around!!! Happy New Year to you!!!
  13. You pretty much built your stairs, select Style> Open Underneath and draw your wall or put put cabinets under there or anything else you like. Also select stairs and in DBX under fill select None so you can place your items manually. Here is a sample with a bathroom under it. I hope it helps.
  14. I been using Camtasia for about 3-4 years, great program for video editing, you can separate video and audio, you can make presentations, put videos together, special effects, etc. They came out with a few newer versions since then free of charge. I mean there is so much you can do with it, I can't list it all. Snagit is good if you want something simple to make a quick clip, etc.
  15. Merry Christmas to all the Chiefsters and Happy New Year!
  16. x2 What Scott said, I always put awning abstract window, this way you get privacy, light and it can be open if desired for extra ventilation.
  17. Using construction calculator if you convert 4' X 8' into mm to be exact you get 1219.2mm X 2438.4mm Joe is right it would create a big mess in the USA.
  18. You right Perry, I see it on decks here. etc you attach a simple deck to a house it will put 8 footings where in reality you would need 3-4... As this little dilemma goes, it could be a bug.... But it seems in some situations and I see a lot on the plans that some guys post in here, that if you try to build something the way you would never do it in reality, something gets screwed up along the lines, whether this being a roof, attic wall or something else.
  19. I never use them, around here trusses only used on tract home or condo or townhouse developments.
  20. I think the reason CA does that is because you would never frame this way in reality. Why would you build one roof on top of another, and what will carry that roof load when it lands in the mid span of the main roof. You have an open kitchen below and the rest is the bedrooms. You have overall rafter length almost 20' and you dropping porch roof right on top of it. Maybe CA thinks there should be a ridge beam and that is why it comes out that way. IMO this is not a bug, because if you frame that roof as you would frame it normally in a situation like this, CA does what it suppose to do... But what do I know
  21. I think it will work, it should... it's working right now with x7 but only zoom-in and zoom-out functions but not the orbit function. In the X8 video they have orbit function working in camera view, I would assume it should work in both (plan and camera) I checked 3Dconnexion page if they added compatibility notice for CA but not yet, I think after they do a driver update it will work with X7 as well.
