  1. Good Topic Scott , sorry I can't really help but will follow along and learn too.... I think nighttime would be offset by you nighttime ambient lighting in the 3D view defaults though ? , not sure where I got my settings but they are 52,52 and 0% for the different lighting levels but think OOB is 31,36,18 ? approx.
  2. I've never had an iPad so can't comment on that but I am liking it so far , though I haven't installed Chief yet , but will likely get a Bluetooth Mouse ,rather than use the Pen for Chief . I wish the Pen was customisable ie I'd like to swap the eraser and right click button , which is likely cos of how I hold it (incorrectly?) and the button on top too , since at this point I Don't use One Note so the top button is kinda useless. If you don't like the home button , you can disable it in the Surface App. Which Surface do you have ? did you find a Case you like for it ? I haven't so far. M
  3. You don't need to zip the plan Scott if it is under 25megs. you do need to close the plan before attaching to post , same as if zipping it up though.
  4. it may have been taken out of the Core Content and be in one of the Bonus Libraries now.... looks like Alan is pointing to this one http://3dlibrary.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?r=site/detail/872 you may need all the other Bonus Plant Lib. too.
  5. if you just reinstalled CA you will need to Download the Core Library Content again from the library Menu along with any bonus and Manf. Libs you want/need. Your User library is a problem though, I hope you have a backup on another disk or can still access the old one ?
  6. Video #1170 shows this technique too , it was done in X5 and is still relevant too. ( if it's still online?)
  7. I have only tried it once , but Pro does have a "Print to Model" option for making scale models on paper.... http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00149/ also http://www.homedesignersoftware.com/support/article/KB-00116/181/Home-Designer/Printing/Printing-a-Plan-at-a-Specific-Scale.html The main Home Designer forum is here too: https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/
  8. Ahhhh thanks Kirk , never thought to Shift select in the library like in a normal Window's way , I usually back them up individually....
  9. Is that possible ? I thought only the individual folders or Objects within the User Library could be exported one by one...
  10. I'm still not sure why they are ignoring their (mostly) Windows based Client's who have Laptops and Tablets (like the Surface) , especially since you can't use X7 on a laptop and Desktop at the same time without the hassle of activating/deactivating. I see it is now supporting the cheaper Bosch Laser Meter GLM 100 C , it also comes with it's own App, though it is only iOS and Android too.
  11. I see the terms As-Built and Existing used interchangeably all the time , though technically I think you are right , and Here, As-Builts would be what the Building Inspector/City would demand near job completion if there were too many changes from the Original Permitted Drawings... (Existing go in with the Proposed drawings) It's also probably partly due to CA using the term As-Builts for Existing too in most of their Docs. M.
  12. you may have misunderstood ?...open below means no floor..... it's how you "cut the hole" in the floor for the staircase. I find that down staircases are not handled as well by CA as UP staircases for whatever reason , and with Up Staircases you can use Auto Stairwell and it will cut the hole and do any railing etc needed automatically Drawing stairs in a 3D view is probably doable but not advisable , place them in 2D Plan views. here is a quick plan for you to look at : Staircase Practice Plan.plan
  13. For one dimension string ...as per DJP above for all of them you can start with Locate Objects as Scott mentioned here
  14. Great... that is the only time I have seen that issue.
  15. They shouldn't be is what I meant sorry ,fascia should be one size larger than gable subfascia. Did you use the. Edit all roof planes Tool ? Post the plan , if ,needed its easier to figure things out.
  16. Are your rafters and fascia set to the same size by chance? ie both 2 x 8
  17. Thx Jon , you might be onto something with the rapid clicking , I was in and out of the plant library clicking rapidly placing bunches of plants in some beds on most of these cases yesterday I think. Mick.
  18. Pro can export .DXF, perhaps there is another issue ? there are .STL converters available too for .dxf and dwg if needed... https://www.google.ca/#q=.stl+to+.dxf https://www.google.ca/#q=.stl%20to%20.dwg
  19. You wouldn't be able to open the Plan file again without Chief , so you would need to print everything to PDF before your Rental was up ,or rent for another month so you could print or make changes to the plan. For the price of a 1 month rental you could buy Home Designer Architectural instead, get the Free Trial version and try it perhaps? https://www.homedesignersoftware.com/products/home-designer-architectural/ M.
  20. The video linked above is old ,it was done in X1, not sure if it's the same one on YT?
  21. Although it didn't happen with the Beta that I remember , it have been happening since we (I?) got the Full version , I am wondering if it's just me and I need to do a reinstall ? as yesterday while placing plants and trees etc X7 crashed 6 times . - In 2 cases the plan was locked on reopening X7 and I had to use the latest archive - In 2 cases the plan was Ok on reopening X7 and I was asked if I wanted to use and Auto saved newer file (Yes) - and in the other 2 cases the plan reopened in X7 where it had left off ,more or less. All 6 crashes were with the SEH Error message , so I hit send Report , then ok which causes X7 to immediately close. I had two last week as well which I thought was just perhaps I needed a reboot etc , but I am not getting them unless I am doing something in the library , at least so far, sometimes it is placing stuff , other times trying to save to the library. M.
  22. Thanks Curt , funny how something as simple as US and International Spelling of a word or even the addition of a "s" effects the results of the search.... Int. US US w/ S ie : moulding vs molding vs moldings 2 14 26 results.... think this is the one no#397 http://video.chiefarchitect.com/player/player.php?id=890&th=1&autoplay=
  23. @Dennis , could you link that Vid. please, I'm only finding one on Cabinet moldings, but maybe wrong search term? Thx
  24. Ahhhh MrScott you forgot to put the plan in your Zip file lots of lovely textures though
  25. @ Yusef , thanks I have downloaded the plan to look at , hopefully I don't need you to add a "How To" in the Tips Forum . M.
