Setting height of 3d model in relationship to new addition
Kbird1 replied to Evolution's topic in General Q & A
The Hover App does not appear to have made a "flat" bottom on the Model ( can be seen in an elevation view ) or it is tilted? thus only the center of the symbol is currently aligned with the Top of the Slab in the addition after setting the height as Eric pointed out. M. -
Bit of a guessing game without the Plan...... did you try rebuilding the roof Framing after raising it up the two inches? Needed not sure? Chief needs a Ceiling plane and a Roof plane, to build trusses, so maybe a cross section will let you see what is going on
-
If you are changing the PATTERN colours and Gridlines , you will only see those changes in VECTOR View where Patterns are used . the Standard+PBR Camera use Textures (images) so you need to make a new material ( eg pic from Manufacturer) which includes the grout lines to change those in 3D cameras. M.

I don't use it a lot either TBH but in another recent thread it was also suggested to switch it to Inside Layer if you measure As-Builts on the interior of the house eg measure Room sizes , drywall to drywall. I'd have to try it but it maybe an idea to switch it back after the main Structure/Shell is built. M.

This is because the Resize about Option ( general wall defaults) is set to Main layer Outside , set it to Outside layer and the DBX measurement will be the same as the measurements displayed (in this plan)
-
It is (check the DBX) but the wall is showing the FRAMING length in the DBX, not including the Plywood and Siding that you Dimension String is snapped too..... If you measured the Wall at 36'6" then use the Dimension String to change it , the Wall DBX will then tell you the real FRAMING length. M

Try making the basement Walls with your own "Furred Wall" Walltype Definition instead of using Chief's "furred Wall" Option on the Structure Tab .....seems to work ....
-
There were reports of similar last year , it was being caused by the 2D Plants apparently.... see this thread for more info....
-
Change the Glass Material to Glass-Standard ............... it is typically using Glass -Tempered which has the Green tinge in some camera views. vs
-
You can also use a material Region and in a pinch use a base cabinet set to 3/4" depth and slide the Range against it. Sorry not sure about the Room label Text Wrap.....
-
Put this info in you Signature as the answers to your questions sometimes depend on the version used..... Copy the Walltype ( under define button) and give it a slightly different name and then change the material on one side as needed. M.

One plane, two buildings: how to set number of floors individually
Kbird1 replied to cv2702's topic in General Q & A
Deleting one Wall will break the Room definition and yes , in 3D the Floor will disappear, it may not mean all the other walls are "gone" though. M. -

or only Add a Blank Floor ( don't derive from 1st floor ) and then draw you own walls on the building that is 2 story using the Reference view to snap too. M. -
The Recent File List is in the .ini File under the heading [Recent%20file%20list] , typically near the bottom. If the information I ( or Glen) posted above doesn't help find the File , I have no idea why sorry. M.
-
Editing the INI File or playing with it is not supported by Chief so you do this at your own Risk.......... To find the location of the .ini files goto Preferences>General>Folders> click the button under All Program Paths... and find the location of the Preferences Folder in the list. (3rd to last on a PC and is usually C:\Users\{Your-USERNAME}\AppData\Roaming\Chief Architect Inc. on a Windows Computer) M.
-
I'll assume you are aware you will need to change the activation of Chief as you switch computers. The Preferences ( enviroment? ) are saved in the Chief .ini file, there will be more than one if you have more than 1 version of Chief Installed, this previous thread has the location etc of the File you'll need to copy to each computer.... this won't "sync" them , you would need to do it occasionally your again. M.

Hopefully someone will prove me wrong but I don't think it can be done Auto , and AFAIK Chief Dims will snap to the Subfascia (framing) not the outside of the True Fascia. ie they will snap to the back of the (true) Fascia board. Fascias are not depicted in Framing Plans but I guess you could turn off the Eave and Gable Fascia and just have sub-fascias on to get the right snaps. M.

Nicely done , and thanks M. -

Kitchen Accessories 3 has some food items but no Pizza , just Pie , Cheese , Apples, Bananas etc. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/3d-library/index.php?r=site/detail/1022 -
It's the Renamed Qty. Column Chop so it's likely using the %automatic_count% macro so not very useful here as we don't have access to it AFAIK. David..... it's better to not use QTY and use a renamed Code or Comment Column ( old method ) to Airflow ( see pic) or create your Own Custom Fields for Airflow2 (in this case) or CFM if that is what the Column is for , then in the Schedule add the New CFM or Airflow2 Columns ( see pics) , from the available list, to the Columns to include.

Make sure none of the Walls are marked as Attic Walls as generally Attic Wall have "No Room Definition" set by default. Or check for walls with No Room Definition Set assuming it is a True 2nd Story on Level 2 , not the Attic or A level you are talking about as Chief doesn't allow Rooms on the A Level. M.

Using your Input method ( wall length) this maybe true ? , not if you use the Preferred Method... Only in the Plan in question ...have a look in my posted plan, it is done for you.... If you decide to use it permanently you would do it in your Template File or Save your existing Plan as the Template File. Defaults are Plan Specific while Preferences are Global Settings. So any Default you want in all future Drawings you need to change in the Default Template File , so they are retained for all Drawings. M.

On a basic square Room you can enter the dim. in the Wall length and everything should (may) work fine but once you go past that eg L shaped buildings, lots of bumps in and out etc CA may not react to the measurement entered if you use the wall length to try and change the Room size this is because Chief can't shift the wall opposite, which is why CA recommends using the Perpendicular wall and the Temp Dim. Method. Your Pic of the Temporary Dims. DBX above shows it Set incorrectly, (to locate surfaces), Robert's pic is also incorrect, both show locating the Wall Dimension Layer ie Framing, you should not need to change the resize about Option for this to work properly...... If the Temporary Wall Length Display bothers or confuses the issue turn it off under Defaults>Wall>General>Show Wall length While Editing. so you only see the needed Temp Dim. You also may want to make copies of your 1/4 Annotation and 1/4 Dimension Default and Set Them up for Surfaces, ( Temp dims use some settings from the currently active Dimension Default too) so you can switch back and forwards if needed to Framing Dims or Surfaces , which is pretty fast if you also have a Surfaces Saved Plan View too. You would need to switch Temp. Dims back to Wall Dimension Layer too but I have an Icon for Temp. Dims to open and edit the Defaults quickly ( 2-3 radio buttons.) if needed. Something to play with , use at your own risk..... Using Surfaces for Dimensions.plan M.
-
It's faster in CA to "roughly" drop the walls in place and then move them with Dimensions to their final location with the Temp Dims. Simply click the wall running perpendicular to the wall length you want to change (1) (ignoring the current wall length) and select the perpendicular temp dim. and change it to the desired size.(2) ie : 6ft = (3) , Now Click the 6ft Wall and use the Temp dim. to set 11' for this example for a 6' x 11' Room

Eric is right , but a quick thing to check maybe that the Framed Wall Definition does not have a Foundation Offset built in. M.
