OOB try changing just that wall to a fire 4 or fire 6
-
Unless a window gets added or deleted, or moved in one schedule. Then it will be out of sync. Best way I could see it would be to wait till the end of the con docs and then copy the schedule and change as is written here: then add and delete the information you want shown on the second schedule and send to layout.

Appearance of plan walls under different layer sets
rgardner replied to kwhitt's topic in General Q & A
You can kind of do this by using wall hatching instead of the wall fill. -
Chief can have that look without editing in the layout. You just need to setup your defaults and get things dialed in. Now to mention one thing that Erik and Joey both did not regarding cad details. When you send something to a cad detail it will send two copies of the line. So you really have to change all the lines. But WOW that will take you forever to do construction documents in that way.

Look slightly above that part in the room dbx...

Only really three ways to make chief do it that I know. As Michael alludes to reshaping that wall manually, in some cases placing a ceiling plane under the staircase and checking roof cuts wall at bottom in the wall dbx roof tab, or placing a shaped doorway there that follows the shape of the stairs. Will really depend upon the rest of the plan around it.

Yes for elevations that is my preferred but for floor plans or orthographic views as shown in the OP I definitely take advantage of the reference displays.

Another way of doing it and it is limited to only two pony walls at this time is to use a brick 6 pony wall to 1.5" high and then siding 6 above it (for example) with a molding applied at the wall. For other situations where you need another pony wall there you will have to use Mike's suggestion. The key to it lining up though is yoru wall definition. Build the walls JUST like they would IRL in order for them to line up.

Shading Variations Between Original Materials and Their Copies
rgardner replied to kwhitt's topic in General Q & A
Are you applying the new texture with the paint tool and combining the two textures instead of replacing the texture? -
Same here.

Never done that particular situation you are showing but have done it with an angled wall where the stairs automatically built up to the wall. But I guess that would be straight treads and you may be looking for a lie shaped tread?

As answered in your Facebook post. Draw it as a regular room not a deck leave auto foundation off and place our beams and posts manually.
-
It appears from your picture your side walls are not the same on your bay window. Looks like a different angle...
-
Glad you liked that approach. It can be pretty fast.
-
I would recommend using a cabinet to model it then. There are other ways to do it manually placing trim and material regions but a cabinet will be faster in my opinion.
-
Not 100% sure I am following what you are trying to accomplish. Is it just a decorative panel? If so use a Cabinet and customize it to the sizes you want at say 3/4" deep. Same idea of doing wainscot inside.

Try a little copy and paste in place, convert new to simple polyline, convert to molding polyline.

Making Openings Visible In Orthographic Overview Plan Views
rgardner replied to portrait's topic in General Q & A
You can show the doors at least in this view but not the swing arc. Sliding doors are also troublesome. A work around is to send it to layout with the doors not shown open like this and then overlay a line drawing with the slice set showing the doors/windows in a plot lines type directly over the first. You will then be able to see it all. Sorry Don't have time to show you what I mean but it is possible I believe. This type of view is not very common in the US market so I doubt it is high priority for chief. This just happened to be a personal project for a close friend in Central America where this is common and they wanted to see it. -

BIG GUESSES here since we don't have the plan to look at. 1.) Are you manually manipulating walls to get the shape and height you want? 2.) How are you setting up those "Dormer" Alcoves? More manually shaping walls? A couple of assumptions being made here but my best guess says you tend to work a lot of times in 3d mode with walls and forcing them to shape how you want them to do. That is generally a bad practice to have. In 99% of the cases if you have to reshape a wall it is because you have something not setup to work the way chief has designed it to work. Also try to use the auto tools as much as possible in Chief. They play nicely together especially when all walls have that default top and bottom height buttons checked... As a side note, neat looking little place. One small observation. Are those stairs engineered to hang from the exterior wall? Because if not you don't appear to have enough room to fit the stair stringer, a doorway of that height, and a header for the door in the space showing. Best of luck on the rest of your plan!

Search for Cross-Section Slider. -
Please start your own question instead of hijacking another one. It will get you better results as well as not cause problems for the OP’s questions. btw the defaults are what you set them to be.

How would I visually represent these walls?
rgardner replied to AlmiraDesign's topic in General Q & A
A lot of times an unknown or even known chase will be designated in 2d floor plan with a closed x polyline.
