Walls, demo layer...you have drawn demo walls in your plan. They are "invisible" walls...so, they will leave a "foot print" so to speak. The method you have chosen for this remodel isn't a good practice. Chief has a number of videos that might help you out...start here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/9867/

@CAmichael240114 - very helpful to just post the answer. Thank you!

I've seen that video...and it's disgusting. My heart went out to that young lady. Her entire fortune being destroyed by public policies that are so arbitrary and capricious. However, seems to me that Californians vote overwhelmingly for a certain elected/ruling class...and I'm really having a hard time having immense sympathy for some of these restaurant owners who most likely have pulled the "correct" lever that has placed these tyrants into office. I believe it's time for all of CA residents to vote a different way? You need some balance out there in the golden State...which used to be the "land of opportunity". Sadly...this seems no longer the case. (my apologies if this post is too political...I've tried to keep it non-partisan)

Walls in User Library- Adds New Wall Type and material Change.
SNestor replied to wjmdes's topic in General Q & A
I discovered this problem when I was developing my "Screened Porch Library". It seems if I tried to edit an item in the library by "right clicking" on it and selecting "open object". Then...edit the material and save it...the next time I'd go to use it the railing panel would be corrupted. The screen material would turn "black". Needless to say...I advise everyone that purchase my library not to edit objects in the library. I contacted tech support and was told they would look into it...but, in the meantime...don't edit items in the library. Really? So...no solution. Kind of like saying to your Doctor...when I move my arm like this it hurts and the Doc tells you to just not move your arm. OK...that works. -
Scott - your post was right on...you are of course "the man". Hope you are doing well is sunny San Diego. Lock Down!

Creating a room in attic, gamerrom wall.clg issues
SNestor replied to Designer100's topic in General Q & A
@Designer100 - Newell...try getting the roof correct before doing any further work. Most of your hips/valleys were not even connected. And...I'd advise you to learn how to use "Saved Plan Views"...I added a couple to the fix plan below. Just FYI...I offer 1:1 training...if you are interested: My Chief Skills I had time...so I fixed the roof. Can't guarantee it's exact but, at least it all fits together. I also fixed your game room wall. Here's the plan...Merry Christmas! 693753679_MichaelHackRemodeling - fix1.plan -
@dshall - well, unchecking "opaque window glass" in vector view rendering technique does make door/window glass clear. However, railing panels still appear opaque.
-
It is “unchecked”. And - I did create a new camera view. Weird oops...I unchecked on Standard View...not Vector. Thanks Scott
-
Nope...still a solid:
-
Clarke - there isn't any material in Chief that will not appear as a solid in "vector view". You will have to do what Eric/@solver has suggested above...create a door without panels.
-
Nope...doesn't work no matter how you tweak the settings. C'mon Chief. Give us something.
-
@ClarkeThrasher Insulation air gap will still appear solid...in vector view

Creating a room in attic, gamerrom wall.clg issues
SNestor replied to Designer100's topic in General Q & A
@DavidJPotter - thanks for posting David. Very much appreciated. -
@EDCsharon I recently made a video that addresses this topic..somewhat. Hope it helps...
-
It works on a MAC...just like a PC
-
@ClarkeThrasher - not in vector view. Even "open no material" is not "clear" in vector view. Even glass appears as a solid in vector. See attached:
-
Yes...they both stick through the ceiling plane the same amount. Why doesn't the roof plane trim these pieces off like the other components. Weird...
-
Thanks. The roof planes are joined properly. I think Shane gave me a good solution. Increase the overall depth of my roof.
-
Thanks. Manual dormer.
-
Well - yes, to get Chief to work properly it is. But - increasing the rafter depth will solve the problem. So - this is an anomaly in Chief that I should submit to tech support ?
-
@ARoyBuilders I just made this video the other day...and I think it'll answer some of your questions. It's not specific to your problem...but, it's somewhat related. Hope it helps...
-
If "auto rebuild roofs" is not turned on you will have to select the "build roof" check box...or, turn on "auto rebuild roofs". Just clicking the gable tool won't do anything until you rebuild the roof.
-
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? The dormer soffit sticks through the room ceiling plane.

@ChiefUserMDL Made you a quick video: https://www.loom.com/share/70abf1a1ddd3472cbe0f2c21a566446c You should post questions like this in "General Q&A" section of the forum
