  1. Railing wall - post to beam. Specify the beam size in the rails tab of the railing wall specification dialogue box. You can choose a newel post (column) also...or set newel size to zero and manually place column symbols.
  2. Thanks for that tip Ryan...I thought that was the case but I was attempting to do it above a railing wall...and the ceiling plane "roof cuts at bottom" does not work. See attached. I'll have to use standard walls and set to "roof cuts at bottom"...then add my railings as "no locate"...or, possibly I may have to use a symbol.
  3. @rgardner - yea, I tried using a roof to create the sloping ceiling. Doesn’t work. I have a 2nd roof above the roof I’m trying to use as a ceiling. When you check roof cuts wall at bottom it places the walls above the upper roof.
  4. Here's another picture to help explain my dilemma...
  5. Create a custom layer set... In my example every layer is turned off except "foundation walls", "foundation" and "footings"... Create this layer set in your template and you can use it in your elevation views...or your 3D views. This took less than 2 minutes to create...
  6. What I'm attempting to do is to use a roof truss to create this single plane roof...and have the truss extend out over the porch with a sloping bottom...basically extending the ceiling plane that is inside the home continuously through the porch ceiling. Structurally the truss will need some depth between the roof plane and ceiling plane to work...and the bottom chord will have a pitch to it. Is there any way to get the bottom of the walls to follow the pitch of the ceiling? Example plan attached. Ceiling Plane Test Plan.plan
  7. @406builder - Also, why are your foundations walls specified as "siding-6". It appears you painted the walls with "concrete". You really should not do this...unless you really want your foundation wall constructed with wood. If you want a concrete foundation walls you should specify a masonry wall type for the "foundation" in your defaults. The quickest way to get to your wall defaults is to "double click" the wall icon in your toolbar...this will open "wall defaults"... Or...you can click the "wrench icon" located on your top toolbar somewhere...this will open all defaults, navigate to foundation and the "edit default foundation wall"...
  8. Actually...I was wrong. You can control the wall fill color by the layer. @LevisL posted the correct answer above. I never used that feature and forgot where it was buried. So...create layer sets with varying color of "walls, normal" and assign the fill to "use layer color"...and you are all set. Each plan view can have it's own layer color....and you can create any type of view you'd want.
  9. @schaeffwes - like this? I've used the main layer only...turned off casing. Everything is "black". Arial for the room label font. You could probably create a "plan view" to give you this exactly. Of course...you cannot change/control the wall fill. It's either on or off. Just FYI...you can also turn off the window labels...I just forgot to do it.
  10. Or...use two solids. One for the wall...and another for the sloped ceiling. Takes 3 min. If that... I doubt Chief is going to give us the tool you are asking for...when they've already given us tools to get around not having a tool that just does it all for us. That said...as you all know...I want the stair tool completely re-worked so that we have complete control over 90% of every component in a stair. I know...dream on.
  11. Yep...why make it more difficult than it needs to be.
  12. @DH7777 - Well...I'd use walls and avoid using the soffit tool at all cost. It does not frame for one thing. I'd create a new 12" thick wall type and use a doorway with no jamb or casing and size it to the opening you want. I'd also create a solid railing wall type with no room definition for the half wall under the bar top. I've attached your plan with my edits so you can see what I've done. Also...the room with the tray ceiling. You can create that ceiling in a couple clicks using the tray ceiling tool...and you don't need any walls. I've done it in the attached plan. 2275 - Steve Edits.plan
  13. @kwhitt - yep, Michael got it. I don't know a thing about "maps"...so, I probably should not have even tried.
  14. @kwhitt - I really think most of the variation is due to lighting. In the screen clip below I've add some "lights" to the scene...and most of the variation disappears. The cabinet doors on the right I created...and painted with the material from your cabinet doors. I'm not an expert on "rendering"...so, I could be all wrong on this.
  15. Just uncheck "furred"...and check "frame through". It will fix itself. You should be making the wall you push against the masonry foundation wall a "solid railing wall"...but, I wouldn't use the cap. The cap in a solid rail wall is always "centered" on the wall...and that will not work in this case.
  16. There is a tool in Chief X12 that allows you to get this ceiling in about 10 seconds...watch the video Chief Architect Premier X12 - Tray Ceilings in less than 1 minute — Watch Video
  17. @Nicu101268 You will need to make a custom railing panel...
  18. @Doug_N - I made this video long ago...but, it should give you at least one method of constructing a face mounted deck railing.
  19. Thanks - I hadn’t thought of looking at that.
  20. @luckyudesign - I looked at your example plan. You drew your ceiling plane on the 1st floor....they need to be drawn on the 2nd floor. Just select, cut, and paste them on the 2nd floor...all will be good.
  21. Mark - I'm thinking whatever you determine to be the Fascia default material shows up in your Roof Defaults materials list as "default material". You can change the material in the roof default area...but, it's not going to be your "default" material. Hope that makes sense. Bottom line...the material spec'd in "Materials" Fascia...is your default material.
  22. You will have to ask Chief...all I know is what I was told. Very disappointed to say the least.
  23. Just FYI... I recently sent an email to Chief asking for clarification regarding the new Apple M1 chip...and generally their support for the new Apple silicon. I received an email from Chief today and was told unequivocally that - Chief will NOT run on the new Apple Silicon (M1) chipset. That's right, Chief will not run on an Apple computer if it uses Apple silicon. WILL NOT RUN!. This really hurts as my current iMac is about 7 years old...and I was holding out for a new iMac and the new apple silicon. Now...not sure what I'm going to do as a new computer is becoming more and more necessary. Old iMac runs everything fantastic...just a bit slow running Chief. I cannot see myself ever purchasing a PC running windows What's an Apple user to do?
  24. Well...if you look at the screen capture...the dbl click opens "dimension defaults"...then I clicked on "auto exterior dimensions"...I don't think I was stating that you would automatically get to "auto exterior dimensions"...just a step quicker than opening defaults.
