Probably a good idea to post your location.

I'm not currently using a backup program. I have in the past, but almost all of my projects are one-off type jobs, and I rarely need to access those files once I am complete. I have used various backup solutions in the past, and I recognize that its probably a good idea (cheap to do these days), so I will probably use Carbonite (or something similar). I did have a house fire a couple of years ago (lightning strike), and thanks to Dropbox, I was up and running in no time at all. Dropbox also has a plug-in that automatically puts all my photos from my phone into a folder in DB, thats a really handy feature as well.

I also use Dropbox and have no issues with it. Like Joe Carrick mentioned, I am able to access my files from a variety of sources, and they sync up automatically. Works very well for me,

No matter what, the building will have to meet the governing codes, whether it is specified or not. I don't think any jurisdiction will allow a builder to just "use his imagination" Plan requirement vary greatly across the country, in our area (Atlanta, Ga. ) there are places that still don't even require a set of plans. That was my point to the OP

Softplan is a very good alternative to CA, its just different. I started with Softplan because of the large number of designers that I saw utilizing it, but I was frustrated when trying to learn it. CA operates more like how I think, and it has (imho) a larger amount of resources as far as training videoes. libraries, etc. They both cost roughly the same amount, try them both and see what works best for you. A CAD program is one of the most important tools that you use, it makes sense to get whats best for you. You can always sell whichever one you dont end up using.

I'm interested in hearing how you are using VR, your setup , how you ulitlize it with clients etc. Can you elaborate?
-
Rene, can you elaborate on what you are doing and how you are using 2 instances of CA?
-
Ah, I see, that did it ,thanks for the help.

So I have just started using Plan Views, and I am trying to have 2 views of a floor plan, one with manual dimensions and one without. But if I save one view with the dimesions on, its getting applied to both? Am I doing something wrong, or is this possible?

Nice video and very informative.

You can export/import libraries but if you do them all at once it becomes a huge file and takes quite a while to create.

I think he (solver) means the computer file (.pln) not a floor plan view. Looks like you have a baseline way off from a wall, that might be where the light is coming from

Nice job Steve, I always learn something from your videos. -
BTW they are commonly called Keynotes.

That would be a nice feature for me as well.

You can turn off the layers that you dont need while you are doing your roof.
-
The angle of the valley is determined the slopes of the 2 roofs, it will be 45 degrees if the slopes are the same, otherwise it will be different
-
You cant dictate the angle and the roof slopes, it would be one or the other

Those look good, what do you mean a "whitening filter""?
