  1. Just to clarify above. What you are proposing is stealing copyrighted works. It is not an option. Using a design as inspiration for your unique design is perfectly acceptable. How much it needs to be different is a very murky gray area.
  2. What is the outside of the wall currently. Are they installing plywood or some shear panel over the horizontal sheathing? If not, I would provide either let in bracing or diagonal blocking with cst strapping continuous plate to plate to establish some actual useful bracing. Before that, I would call my engineer.
  3. Oh, that is a U18 error. The problem is the user 18" from the screen is not posting the plan. Ehh.
  4. I am not sure if this is the same planning district as South Lake. I did some research for a project there a few years ago. My friend with a house there has not followed through yet. The planning process is daunting and very restrictive for coverage. I ski/snowboard there in the winter and can drop in to the planning department for info if you are not able to get what you need online or on the phone.
  5. Sign a check, scan it and email it to me. I will send back a good file for your signature.
  6. I strongly considered eliminating gas on my current project (and the electrical feed). Due to PG&E's delay in engineering my hookups, I may have to. I applied in November and they still do not have an engineering package ready. I am possibly less than 2 months from completion and I am waiting. The only items that need gas in the house are the fireplace and the water heater.
  7. Is the total cost for this job $750? If so, that is a cheap lesson to learn. I would not try to slam or fight the contractor. That is a lot of bad Karma to put out there and the time you spend chasing that money might be better spent on your next (good) job. I don't work without a contract and a contract is invalid without an exchange of funds. I get payments during the project and always start with a retainer. My jobs are higher dollar numbers so I generally have a $1000. deposit. If the client balks at the retainer, they are not the right client. If you are working on a $750 job, ask for $250 to start the job (min.). PM me and I will send you a copy of my contract. Feel free to use it at your own risk. I am not an attorney or even an exceptional business operator. Just another guy swinging and sometimes missing the ball. P.S. Your signature states "Structural". Be careful of the words you use to sell yourself. I read that you do structural drafting. Someone else may think you have sold yourself as an engineer.
  8. Another item to pay close attention to, if putting in a dryer booster fan, there are specific distances from the dryer to be adhered to.
  9. I used to save all my details to the library. Currently, I save forward a plan file that is a large set of details that I keep adding to and modifying. The details are grouped as pages of a layout with grid division lines that I turn off before printing.
  10. Look more carefully in the print to pdf dbx. There is a check box for "color". I am away from my computer or I would attach an image.
  11. Are you freaking kidding me? What is your address? I am sending you a pizza.
  12. I am working on a project that will use an Ikea kitchen. Has anyone made the Ikea Voxtorp faces? I would be happy to pay for them. Thanks, Alan
  13. The other way this "might" work is to make a section of wall that size and turn it into a window symbol so you could mull the whole package.
  14. Hopefully you did the smart thing and send the dimensions to Joe. If not, check this out
  15. Download a free version of LibreCad. Bring it in there and then save out for the import. I have had good luck with this program and the price is right.
  16. Some boiler plate stuff they are asking for lately for the erosion control. erosion control notes.odt
  17. If we could just get the putting the seat down in the porta potty on the general notes...
  18. Professor + did it with a wrench in the study.
  19. Here are some other items AIA-CA-2016-CALGREEN_Residential_JULY-1-2018-SUPPLEMENTAL.zip
  20. Another big time saver that is worth the price of admission.
  21. My signature is (edit, was) out of date. I am running an Alienware desktop. This Alienware has been a dog and currently has a problem with the fans. I had to dial back the fans to a constant as they started running on overdrive. So It could be a hardware issue but I was not getting this crashing behavior with x10 with the same hardware.
  22. I checked the updates and it says I am on the latest version.
  23. Maybe it is my workflow? Maybe? I am getting crashes with x11. I will work for a while, leave my computer and x11 on for hours, maybe into the next day. I go to open up a tab and "blink", it is gone. No freeze up. It just vanishes. Is anyone else getting this quick (undesired) exits?
  24. Do it. 1. It will not take long before the O.S. you are working with will become incompatible (maybe but probably) 2. Physically based rendering 3. If you want to outsource any drawings you want to be in the latest version to have the best pool to choose from. 4. If you are in Ojai and $1700 is too big of a business purchase for a primary CADD system you need a business coach.
  25. Do they include the Garage in the FAR? IF so, then it is most certainly Floor Area.
