  1. Is it built like a house? If so ,why not.
  2. All the heights are set in the room definition DBX. Don't ever drag anything down, you will cause more problems, set your floor defaults first.
  3. Ok here is what I'm talking about, it seems you can use Glen's method using a room divider but you can't keep your roof on the same plane, it will drop down ,so we are left using a ceiling planes for a true soffit. Of course it would be great to just use soffits but they don't frame, that would solve all of the problems. video here. http://screencast.com/t/JktjssFgTGn
  4. use the slab footing tool in the walls section and draw it just like a wall
  5. And if you drop a ceiling in half of a larger room, you must repair the open end of the drop side. Several way of doing it but I find to put an opening in that wall ceiling high will look good in 3d but not look good in 2d. you can also use a p-solid and even a pulled up wall. Choose your poison, I wish Chief would fix this, it's similar tothe stair triangle problem.
  6. Scott My wife says otherwise.
  7. Also you can set up your wall defaults to have different layers automatically so you don't have to think about it as you draw them. You can also change to ,and or, set up your reference sets in a view already sent to the layout. Just right click on the view and go to "Plan Display".
  8. Glen, to me it's still a vertical slab b/c you can't modify it, or select it. A mono slab is something you can work with and create a foundation plan with. The vertical slab cannot generate a foundation plan ,ever.
  9. Make sure your wall are set to default height. Just guessing without seeing a plan
  10. Well, I normally don't have problems with floor heights and foundations, but I do agree, it should be easier for most people. Maybe more videos for different conditions would help. I usually start out using the automatic foundation, mostly to save time. Then I always have to turn off automatic foundations and manually repair areas that don't work as advertised. of course with lot of different levels, a lot of manual repair is usually needed. I don't think Chief really can do all conditions automatically, its kind of a new feature, maybe from X2 or 3 and wasn't thought out as it should be. But it works for me and was a lot worse back then, believe be when I started using Chief they didn't have anything for slab floors, except for just the slab tool. Small things like which level you want the wall on can give you fits, the secret is call the room a porch if you want the wall on the high side of the foundation. of course it's not a porch just add whatever name you want and adjust the floor finish and things like that. After that does the drywall come down ,on the foundation, to the lower level--no, so you have to also repair that. Sometimes I can just adjust the brick ledge to fix that, and sometimes it doesn't work and have to add a p-solid or create a new foundation wall with the drywall added. I could go on and on about things like that but all in all I like Chief and things like this could be in all the 3d software's. and it would be nice if it was documented somewhere. Oh yeah , there seems to be a virtual slab in Chief, when no slab is present. figure that one out. I still find little thing I didn't know of before and probably will forever.
  11. Close enough for me, never had any problems with cities. but this is, of course, until they fix it. A few square feet here and there doesn't bother me.
  12. Try to put a wall break in that attic wall where in intersects with the other wall where the wood shows. You can reverse the two walls so they don't re-connect again.
  13. Without seeing your exact condition, you can do that using the stair tool adjusting the materials and some settings. Lots of other ways too.
  14. I understand what you are talking about, most of Chiefs videos and print materials are for basic conditions, but I think that b/c Chief is so versatile , there is no way to show every condition that is possible. I don't think Autocad ,Archicad or Revit does that either.
  15. Yes, but some people are saying they can't get my deal. I guess I have been with them for many-many years, so I get a special price per map. I can't find there phone # right now but it should be on their web site. I had to call but you may be able to do it online , not sure. My transfer to them was automatic.
  16. To lower that stem wall, just lower the (SWT) stem wall top for that room to what you need. turn off auto foundation if you need to. Have not looked at your plan.
  17. All you can do with AutoCAD (DWG) files is import and trace over or you can try to use the Cad to walls tool. For me ( because everything is already set up using template plans and layouts) I would just trace over the Autocad plan. There is no automatic import 3d with those files.
  18. OR, just balloon frame that wall to fill it in, unless you need to show a truss there.
  19. This is an old thread, now you do need to fill out all the California title 24 stuff, but not when this thread started. Otis, my sister in law Rae, was Mayor of Ojai a few years ago.
  20. Nice, next question, does it frame well? Just curious how the model as a whole works for you. Can you cut sections easily that look correct. Nice job.
  21. For me , it's the squeaky wheel method, When they call and say ,"where's my plan", I then work on it. When they don't call, I work on it anyway, if it's that plans time to do.. If your busy, don't lie to the customer, if your 5 weeks out just to start it ,TELL THEM. I find people like hiring someone who is busy, rather than someone who isn't. By all means collect you fee, and hammer the money.
  22. Microsoft said it would open faster and apparently it does, who would have thought. I plan on doing me this weekend.
  23. I do mine out of a molding p-line or just use p- solids
  24. Just post your questions here and we all will help. I'm sure being in Florida, you might have special conditions but we will still try. If you get the correct answer from anyone, just make sure to give me the point.
