  1. look here. This is oob. I use a king stud and trimmer as standard but as we all know sometimes you need a 4x4 post.
  2. You missed the framing tab also, it has floor defaults
  3. I also crack up every time, Scott should make money on that one.
  4. Thanks tiger, at my age, I just cant get faster, but I am working good at getting slower.
  5. Placing Images A selection of Images are available in the Library Browser. Select one and click in a floor plan view, camera view or overview to place it. See Placing Library Objects. Creating Images Custom Images can be added to the Library Browser, as well as created in plan files. Chief Architect can use any image with a *.bmp, *.jpg, *.png, *.gif, *.tif, *.pcx, or *.tga extension. Generally, .png files work best as Images because this format has good compression and allows for the Image to contain transparency information. To create an Image in floor plan view 1. In floor plan view, select Build> Image> Create Image or Billboard Image to open the Image Specification dialog. See Image Specification Dialog. 2. On the Image panel: • Click the Browse button to select a picture file on your computer or enter the path to a valid picture file in the Image File field. • Select a 2D Plan Symbol from the drop-down list or click the Library button and select a CAD block or symbol from the library. The selected symbol represents the image in floor plan view. See Image Panel. • Specify the Size and Position of the image. 3. Specify transparency information on the Transparency panel. 4. Click OK to close the Image Specification dialog. 5. Click to place the new Image in floor plan view. To create an image in the Library Browser 1. In the Library Browser, right-click on an unlocked folder. 2. Select New> Image from the contextual menu to open the Image Specification dialog. 3. Browse to the image file you want to add and select your other options. See Image Specification Dialog. 4. Once created, the image is listed in the library folder that you right-clicked on. Size and other data is saved. Using Paste Image You can also import an image by first copying it to the system clipboard, then navigating to a Chief Architect window and selecting Edit> Paste> Paste from the menu, or by using the Screen Capture tools. See Paste Special and Creating Screen Captures.
  6. Just open both plans at the same time, use the "all off" layer-set and turn on all the electrical and copy ,1 minute tops
  7. I have seen a 5 sec lag sometimes. But I also have a very large user lib.
  8. Not sure what you are asking
  9. Scott I have a standing contract with Contractors ,some 35 years, just in case. Maybe I should update them .
  10. yes just copy and paste from one plan to the other
  11. That offends me so much I have to lock the door
  12. Lew, your disclaimer should also be in your contract and the plans, you will have a better chance of it working.
  13. My guys charge from $1500 to $5000 (Markup plans only, no drafting), depending on the project. I also have a guy that does all his own drafting for more money. Don't use him that much b/c I can do all the drafting.
  14. Michael That's why I said the file size was suspicious and I managed to reduce it from 70mb to 30 mb which is still to large for that plan. I still say its user error and something isn't right, somewhere, found some of it quickly It's really good advise ,not bad , you'll see. Since he was new to X8 maybe he brought it forward from X7, I don't know, most of these kinds of things are just user error. You shouldn't put down any help from anyone here, because you really don't know either or you would have the answer.
  15. Michael it's all in the settings. There are a Lot of other things that will cause the problems you say. I fixed what he wanted about the attic walls. That's all. I assume he would ask if there was something else. Why are you complaining about some helping him out, b/c it not your answer?. You should rise above that.
  16. Larry, there were some bad settings in there, I think it's user error and not Chief's and I just don't have that error
  17. California follows the business and profession code so any homeowner can do their own plans for residential. 3 stories is ok, but around here you couldn't get permit without a structural engineers stamp.
  18. I've done it for over 40+ years now. I also use a licensed structural Engineer on every project. No website, never needed one. Cards just say Building Designer / drafting. Contracts also say I am not a licensed Architect as so classified by the state of California
  19. I didn't look at everything in the plan, just the task at hand. I noticed other things but didn't address any of that.
  20. A box over a box isn't the prettiest thing on the block but if that's all the client can afford, so be it. maybe offset the 1st and second floor might help it a little. there are other things you can do if the budget is there.
  21. I looked at the plan and it took me 5 min. to fix, their were several things, like you had all your walls marked to hang off stem wall but you have a mono slab. Those walls should be marked balloon above ceiling b/c they are block walls. You also had headers checked for openings when they should not have wood headers, you will need to detail the steel reinforcement for those. A few other things. Your file size of 70mb was suspicious. I removed the furniture and wood headers and got it down to 30mb. now it works better fixed plan.zip
  22. This is something we have tried to get chief to fix for a long time now, p-solid drawn in section elevation view is what I have been doing for those little triangle area, but you won't get any framing using that method. You can also use a wall adjusted but you might have to dw patch the bottom of the wall.
  23. Or just make all the exterior wall "balloon thru ceiling" in the wall DBX. also make sure that Default top of wall is checked
