  1. Always save, first thing, when starting a new plan
  2. Try the (reset side windows) in preferences under "reset"
  3. No , you would put the (e) and (n) in the label of the object.
  4. Yep, I agree it really should be automated, if you could do it Joe, I'd pay for that.
  5. There are roof pitch markers in the "roof DBX" under the Arrow tab that automatically show on the roof plan, and make sure the layer "roof labels" are checked to show. They also work for elevations but not in a way that you might think, but works
  6. I draw the as-builts first and have set up my template to not show anything in the schedules, and just show window and door headers and existing (E) size and type. After the as-built drawing is done I do a save as existing plan. Then I continue to add the remodel but before I do anything further, I change all my door and windows, walls, posts, headers, framing, cabinets, beams, etc. to new(N) and check include in Schedule. Every automatically generates just how I want it to.
  7. I put everything in one job folder like (Smith job) that includes everything like photos, p.c.corrections, plan and layout files, owner notes, engineering, maps, etc. I use Adobe acrobat DC and, Paperport 14 for scanning anything, you can save as a PDF. Been doing that for many years.
  8. I think we (some of us) determined that data from places like Google maps, and Google earth ,weren't good enough for an accurate terrain.
  9. Go to an elevator site that you will use and they have all the details for you to download. Create an elevator shaft using walls no floor or ceiling. You really don't need to actually have a 3d model of the unit but maybe the site will have one or look for one at Sketchup's warehouse site.
  10. Another nice video from David. Most of the time that line will not print, but not always.
  11. I would draw it in a 2d elevation, then convert the lines to a p-solid on the 3rd floor.
  12. Larry, if you need the rafters to show at the eaves , just make the soffit an invisible material.
  13. Look in your downloads section, for SSA, bonus and Manufacture's stuff ,if they are still there. Hopefully you didn't delete them. I always save them to a folder.
  14. From looking at your example, I don't see any black dots.
  15. For me it means the wall line for shear walls A,B,C, / 1,2,3,. It makes it easier for the plan checker to find the line used to add up the total lineal footage of shear wall along that line. It is usually also on the structural calc's
  16. Yep, sometimes you have to break walls to get the desired outcome ,even footings too b/c after all they are walls too.
  17. Use the "lower wall if split by butting roof" tool in the wall DBX ,and if that doesn't work , just make that wall a pony wall and shape as you need it.,
  18. I have seen this recently, told the person, I would have to re-draw the whole thing, never heard from him again, he didn't want to pay my price. he said it was 90% complete--not. It's just too much trouble to pick up and finish anyone else's plans b/c they just don't have all the setup that you have, and I would be fumbling around trying to figure out how someone else did it. Much quicker just to re-draw
  19. For a new Chief user , this has to be confusing
  20. Isn't that one on one training that Chief gives, one on one remotely not in person? Scott do you still give training that way
  21. I think Joe is talking about the plan layers set, not the layout layer set
