  1. From looking at your example, I don't see any black dots.
  2. For me it means the wall line for shear walls A,B,C, / 1,2,3,. It makes it easier for the plan checker to find the line used to add up the total lineal footage of shear wall along that line. It is usually also on the structural calc's
  3. Yep, sometimes you have to break walls to get the desired outcome ,even footings too b/c after all they are walls too.
  4. Use the "lower wall if split by butting roof" tool in the wall DBX ,and if that doesn't work , just make that wall a pony wall and shape as you need it.,
  5. I have seen this recently, told the person, I would have to re-draw the whole thing, never heard from him again, he didn't want to pay my price. he said it was 90% complete--not. It's just too much trouble to pick up and finish anyone else's plans b/c they just don't have all the setup that you have, and I would be fumbling around trying to figure out how someone else did it. Much quicker just to re-draw
  6. For a new Chief user , this has to be confusing
  7. Isn't that one on one training that Chief gives, one on one remotely not in person? Scott do you still give training that way
  8. I think Joe is talking about the plan layers set, not the layout layer set
  9. If I don't use group similar objects, the schedule just gets too big to fit all the schedules on a page b/c I really want to use the 2d drawings of windows and doors. I know I can resize that column, then it gets too small to see what it is.
  10. Show it in a detail ,and let Chief just be a representation of what you are building. For me it's not worth the extra time to manually install the bars in the slab and footings. The DBX for those things are just for the materials list at this time.
  11. A lot of times I see multiple entries in the Schedules ,so I then have to open each schedule and uncheck, then check "group similar objects" to fix, not updating as it should most of the time.
  12. Typically on an addition or new structure, the base includes the door openings so you can cut to fit without having lots of pieces.
  13. Typical text for me is set at 4, I can get in more info.
  14. Kelly, Thanks ,ok we are good to go, anyone for a knucklehead convention, everyone invited.
  15. Chief comes with a large amount of cad details which you can modify to fit your local needs. The reason there aren't standard details and notes for everybody is because we all use different details for our locality. You kind of have to develop your own. I have thousands only b/c I have been doing this for 40 years and keep every one for future use.
  16. Ray, was that in the "HD" versions?
  17. I think the H.D. version only allows you to print one page at a time.
  18. Yes Joe gets the prize for most offended ,and we still aren't sure if he is still alive ,or it's just his Macro's talking.
  19. Buy the "Premier" version and you can have any sheet size you want. For me Chief was very easy to learn (took two classes),but I didn't come from an Acad background. how large is pretty large. I've done a lot of projects since 2005 in Chief, never had one that Chief couldn't handle. I'm starting a 12,000 s.f. custom home next week and sure Chief won't let me down, but the answer is "what's in it" that counts.
  20. I guess it depends on who says it. come on the word is just funny, and I have never heard it as serious.
  21. What version, and what problem are you having?
  22. I use to be a licensed builder but always loved drawing better, building was too much trouble for me, and I have been drawing since the 1070's, that's what I learned in college.
  23. You can also add "light sources" and lower them down to the level where they will show the light. You can turn them off on the floor plan or the renderings, kind of like invisible lights.
