For those who are interested, it looks like the flared stairs needs some more work from the programmers. Here is what I was told: - Support Answer - Katherine Kory Monday, Mar 30, 2020 - 06:44 AM PDT Hello David, Thank you for contacting Technical Support Services. I took a look at your plan and it appears that it is the flared portion of the stairs that is causing those railings to not follow the stairs. I drew a set of straight stairs and the pony wall railing followed the stairs but as soon as I flared those stairs it stopped working. I understand this is not ideal for you, but you might do a set of straight stairs to get as much of the stairs railings to follow the stairs, then use polyline solids (as an example) to make the flared portion. The railing still wouldn't follow the stairs, but it'd get you closer than you currently are. I will be passing this along to our development department to look at further for a future version of the software. I hope this information is helpful. Something isn't working then if Chief is saying it needs to be at least 2 treads in length because the half-wall I am working with is 5 treads. I'll send it in to tech support and see what they say about this one...

Question: Can we get a curved wall to "follow stairs" of a flaired section of stairs?

According to the numbers I saw from NAHB, on average across the nation, framing is one of the highest single cost at around 18% of the total cost of building a new house. I always figured if I paid for the lumber, it should be going into the house, not the landfill. In the 90's I used a software specifically to optimize the use of framing materials... and I also found out which framers made me the most money... which was hard to quantify when building one of a kind custom homes... before I used that software.

I wonder how much scrap lumber would be reduced if houses were designed on 2 foot snap intervals or even possibly 4 foot?
