kendra11
Can anyone help or suggest the best way to create a wall niche into a design? I'd like to show a perspective view for my clients so it needs to be 3D. Thank you,
Solution Dennis_Gavin Posted September 8, 2014 Solution Share Posted September 8, 2014 use a pass through with a polyline solid to close in the back, eliminate casing, sill.

lbuttery
it would be nice if the pass thru tool could have a setting for "apply back" and allow for a material to be set for the back Lew

steve_stuart
Why not use a door, set door thickness and material? No need to add a p-line solid

dshall
Why not use a door, set door thickness and material? No need to add a p-line solid Yes, I think I did a vid on this. It might be the best solution to date. The key here is to use your own door, that has been made of two psolids, one on the front and one on the back, by doing this, you can have different materials on the front and the back. (just reviewed this and by some miracle I guess the default door had two sides to it.) This solution works well in render, but in vector view, you get a few extra lines. But again, probably the best simplest solution to date.
Joe_Carrick
My problem with the Door solution is that if I use Casings - I get them on both sides of the Wall. Except if it's an Exterior Wall.
steve_stuart
I think you can set a differing material for both sides of the door, yes? Casings will show up with the pass thru as well, not sure how you get around that one.
Joe_Carrick
Casings will show up with the pass thru as well, not sure how you get around that one. Don't use casings. Use a custom Symbol with whatever "Surround Features" and insert it into the opening. Ooops! We're right back to using a Custom Window Symbol and a "Back Fill Symbol" to match. Joe_Carrick
There are some wall niche's in the lib. I don't believe any of them actually recess into the wall.
DRAWZILLA
Your right ,Joe. I have used them in a double wall condition in the past but not a single wall.
Designers_Edge
This is exactly why I have requested that recessed niches be added to the Chief standard library. Ones that can be used in showers and other rooms. We all have been creating them and adding them to our library symbols, but as Chief changes so must the symbols created.
