I was having issues, per tech support things will run better with default settings in NV CP. So ... Restore NV Control panel to default settings, remove Chief from program settings. Put chief back into program settings, I only changed Open GL rendering to use the Nvidia card (but I doubt that matters with X13) Be sure Windows Graphic Settings has Chief set to High Performance. Solved my problems.

Are you using X13? Dimension defaults got a complete overhaul. Are using the kitchen template or some other? If you open the dimension defauls further there will a list If on X13 you might look into the help about dimensions, might also go to the end of help to see what's new. .

Cad To Walls not recognizing imported cad blocks.
MarkMc replied to McCallOfTheWild's topic in General Q & A
I use CAD to trace and regularly convert PDFs to dwg since you can snap to it. Unblock all blocks (match properties to select); place all on a single layer and get as many line as is ez to layer color, lock layer. Set wall default, generator resize about inner surface, set plan default snap distance to 1/2", then turn grid snaps off. Trace, if needed move wall so drywall is correct with arrow key which will move it 1/2", the snap setting. After walls place doors and windows dragging so they snap. Goes very quickly. I suppose that could be combined with cad to walls if layers are correct. I have not even attempted CAD to walls in years so can't say.- 5 replies

DItto to Rene's suggestion and ANY other GPU overlay software. I was having random crashes with regularity but not sufficiently reproducible to send in. Then started getting one that I could reproduce and contacted support. Along the way they mentioned GPU overlay software, monitors AND control panel. I checked all of those I had though none were running as a rule except Control Panel. I reset Nvidia CP to default and have not had a crash since. I was also told by Kbird that there are issues with RIva Tuner (and I think Nahimic)

#1-as long as it is in the user library-For this sort of thing I use a custom object information field Make a library folder for your defaults, share that with everyone. Use those for your template defaults. Update as needed. Note that using "replace from library, all objects works if someone makes a mistake as do special Style Palettes limited to the items(S) #2-no. You can however select a schedule, copy, and paste into a spreadsheet. I'd been doing this all the time with cabinets. If you want the pricing back in the plan you can copy from the spreadsheet and paste into a RT box or a text box

Sorry misunderstood earlier. An alternative -Added two sided exterior partition wall, made pony wall at opening, adjust wall intersections, had to add a little parallel wall on left side. Don't know if it's easier since I hate wall intersections but attached anyway. Angle wall.plan

Got my current issue solved with tech support. Short answer for me for now is set Nvidia Control Panel back to the default settings and have X13 profile use the same. (setting it to always use the discreet GPU is OK I tested that) Longer answer and some maybe useful tidbits and the end re reporting. They had me do some troubleshooting steps enable diagnostics changes in the render panel of preferences,so that they would get a more useful report, then to close reopen, and get a crash, click send in a report. At the same time he asked " One more thing. Do you have any 3rd party applications installed that modify the graphics settings on your machine. These would be things that for example display an overlay on screen showing stats about the card or overclock the card in some way. Have you changed any of the graphics settings using the Nvidia Control panel or GeForce Experience?" SO while I waited to hear back about the reports I tested those things. EVGA Precision X1 made no difference but I rarely have that running so did not expect it. UltraMon made no difference. BUT I reverted the Nvidia Control panel to the defaults, then deleted the X13 profile, the put X13 back into the profile but made no changes from the default. The immediate problem went away. Now I have not touched the NV CP in well over a month, maybe two, and some of the global settings I changed are being used by X12 so no idea what or why but happy. Having had this sort of issue pretty often, just not reproducible, since the fall, I can only hope it is gone completely, will see. Regarding that I asked what should be changed and I was told not to change ANY control panel settings. Now that flies in the face of what I've seen and done in the past (without issues of any kind) particularly when there is an intel card attached to the CPU, and on laptops. For now I've only changed that one setting in the X13 profile to always use the discreet GPU. In any case I made note of all the non default settings I had before and any discrepancy between x13 and x12 settings (few) If I ever get some free time I'll try to see if any settings help or hinder, one at a time, but only when I have some freedom to fiddle (yeah like that's soon) Important!! FWIW at one point I was told to make sure to click send in a report. Now I thought I had but made it crash and did as told. Then noted that I'd allowed multiple reports on this and similar issues be sent in over the last few months. Was told What I get from that is that just clicking send report is not much help to them. So in the future if I click send report I plan on immediately following up so that there is "enough information" or at least all I have.

Roll back did not help. Checking other plans to see. I've been getting similar all along but this is the first time I can reproduce with some constancy. This is after a reboot.

On quick way- psolid same size as tile, transform replicate to get a second one layered in front. Set back one to say 1/2" thick with emissive material, font one to 1/4" thick to match wall material. Convert to symbol, figure out spacing of tiles on wall. place new symbol over one on say the left side of the wall, check position, transoform replicate to place the rest multiple qty by spacing X and Z PDF with bloom on in camera

Just managed to generate repeatedly with current update- Plan view open, perspective overview (standard view) with cross section slider, split screen on one monitor floor plan and perspective then a back clipped elevation from side of building . Switched back to plan. Then Full Camera of interior- boom. Going to roll back since I managed to do this 4 times in a row. Three crash/lock ups and one with the bonus of black backgrounds and the Full camera switched to sort of show the full overview on drugs. Sent this in.

Might check out the end pages of this thread. These refer to prior to the update. I have not yet done enough with the update to know if there is a change but what you describe was happening prior to it. I'm currently trying to work out if DropBox has anything to do with it (some talk about Google and OneDrive there) For some time now I've had auto save set to 3 minutes. When I get it it is always with having both an elevation AND a 3D view, usually when both are visible either on separate monitors or a split screen (seems worse). When it first locks I have sometime been able to solve it by hitting Ctrl + W on the locked view, usually the perspective. It has not been reproducible but does happen often enough to be a problem.

No but a very large number of semi custom makers will reduce heights at no charge. They will charge to reduce toe heights though. So unless you are using an really inexpensive stock only brand you there are choices.

I've snapped them at the bottom, top, every different layer of the wall, copied and pasted, typed in lengths (I believe the ones in plan I posted were not same length?), added foundation and get this every time. Originally I hacked it with landings but at some point lost those due to terrain changes and just left it since they are getting torn out. Figured I'd fix it for final when I had all the terrain infor. I just got it to work by adding a landing at the top of the wall and that works even if I bury the landing in the wall. NOTHING else has worked, or show me? The first one I showed was drawn to a landing for testing but didn't work until I used Kbirds solution of giving the room a definition. So thanks I guess :)\

First I apologize for being confused yesterday, maybe mad cow or was abducted. Or because this one had me going a week or so ago. I just fudged it but tried the suggestions and can't get the stairs to wrap. I've run into this before. Stair issue.zip

I don't have one drive running-ever. I do occasionally have DropBox running so will see if that makes a difference. Don't understand why since it only syncs to one folder which: never has changes made on my computer, so nothing to sync, but will give it a shot.
-
My description was wrong backwards I guess, doesn't work on Obtuse angles. But a quick look at the original post.... To me the difference between solutions and what was posted is kinda obvious?.
-
This is second time in a month this has come up and answers have been the same. It's easy to make work with angles 90 and greater which is what everyone shows for the answer. BUT that is not the same as the posted question which has angles less than 90. I can't find a way to make Chief automatically connect stairs set at acute angles. Eric's suggestion to use landings can be a solution, that is make several angled landings. I'd love to see someone post an auto connected stair at an acute angle (I'll buy ya an ice cream

Wish it were that easy. I do not use OneDrive at all, and nothing syncs to it or anything else, all files for Chief are on the main drives. I do use DropBox but no files in use ever sync to it, I always place copies of files there with no links to original. Yes Alan, layout makes it worse but doesn't appear to be a requirement to lock up if working on a file long enough.

I've had this several times, have sent in , not easily reproduceable. Also get lock ups when a perspective and an elevation are side by side or on two screens. Lock up occurs most often when changing or editing materials. About to send that in again since it occurs more often; am just checking for software conflicts first.

This kept me amused for a while. Outlined in red- furred thick pony wall (partition wall), bottom is room divider, surface set to match soffit material then applied wall material region (hold off the front edge) Wall thickness determined in elevation to work with fascia height (is 16 and change here) White is 3D molding line (always a PIA)

Look into the symbol smoothing angle, solve at least one I came across

It does appear that the EULA indicates the program is licensed to a single person. I wonder if that means that when I had an assistants and got a secondary license I should have gotten a second full license for them to use ? even though I only ever had one assistant at a time. From the EULA: (a)Software: Unless otherwise agreed to in writing, Chief Architect, Inc. grants you the right to use one copy of the Software on only one computer at one location at any one time. This software is licensed for use by you and only you. You may not share your license of this software with any other person, and you agree not to allow any other person to use your license of this software. In order to use this software, each person must purchase their own valid license; Then there is this other bit. (d)Upgrades: If the Software is being licensed to you as an upgrade, renewal, or update to software previously licensed to you, you must cease using the software previously licensed to you, including any and all copies installed on your computers, once you have successfully installed and commenced use of the upgrade, renewal, or update software. You may not transfer, give away, sell, or loan the software version previously licensed to you to any other person or entity. Any unauthorized attempt to transfer or sell the software previously licensed to you will result in automatic termination of your current software license. You may, however, maintain a copy of the software previously licensed to you for your own archival purposes only; How many of us only keep the current version active? never use an older version to assist a client? keep an old version on a secondary machine like a laptop or home computer? wonder why the answer to folks asking if it's okay to uninstall older versions never mentions this?
