  1. Nice Michael-doesn't appear to work well for inset. To dimension that did you cad or lines? at least I still couldn't get dims on the rails.
  2. For dimensioning cabinet faces the only options are points, lines, or cad detail (premier only). I just don't like how points behave, every now and then end up with points after editing something so dimensions don't reflect what's going on. I find it easier to notice something was edited with lines than with points. None are live so depends on the situation. If I have fussy face editing to do I use lines and make them longer than the cabinet. When it's time to send in an order I use detail from view..pick your poison.
  3. Either make a CAD detail Or add a line open it, lock start I was mistaken, lock length/angle then set Y to zero (had gotten that from Scott Hall some time ago) Then using transform from view replicate offset copies to match the drawer height Your dimensions will now snap to the lines.
  4. Just went through this-no change in computer or location, was using CA yesterday afternoon. No go this am,reboot, still nada, tried again-was listed as running in task manager processes- finally loaded.
  5. Glad it's working out for you, didn't save as much time as you think. Are those shadows on the 3 drawer base on the right? if so something is amiss.
  6. Yes Scott, I got nowhere with the eaves, only made progress when I changed the pitch to an angle on the side arcs. Don't have any vid capture so can't- Put photo into Bluebeam PDF-drew in circles and sized until they looked about right. Added lines so I could measure distances and convert arc sizes to full scale. Calibrated the measure tool in Bluebeam to match the width I pulled off the Chief elevation then measured as needed, worked out the radius of the arcs based on scale. In Chief changed the arcs to match radius I pulled from the pdf. Changed the width of the center arc to match the pdf (selected line-lock center, change length for both front and back. Same for the side arcs. Fooled with the pitch. At first I hit upon 45 degrees and stopped. Later I realized I could change the pitch so measured the angle of the chord of the arc in the PDF and used that as a starting point. Moved things up and down with transform replicate till things matched. (they jumped around every time I changed something -remember I don't know how to do rooves:) Noodged top arc radius and width, noodge up and down...like that. Finally shot a cad detail from an elevation in CA- export as picture- placed that in the pdf file. Increased transparency and sized till it looked close just to check it all.
  7. I went back to the pdf and measured the angle for the side arcs to get an approximate pitch. This isn't bad. On another note I see some of you uploading plan files without zipping them- I can't get that to work (using firefox) is there a setting somethwere? Edited, did one more adjustment- close, depends on how accurate you want it but this one is smooth (#6)
  8. this is a little better-the problem I can't figure out is-to make an approximate ellipse out of arc of circle- first the arcs need to be tangent to each other BUT the arcs are not quadrants of a circle. The top arc is not a quadrant but I can't find a way to make the side arcs less than a quadrant. Up to you roof guys. bell roof 4.zip
  9. OOPS. I got nowhere with the 4 variables Scott notes- made some progress changing the pitch to a 45 degree angle, can't figure out how to lose that little corner sticking down. (or much else bell roof 3 arc.zip
  10. Thought this was interesting but remember I don't do rooves so can't finish it. This is a little closer, I just have no idea how to clean it up. Also a pdf with your picture and where I got the arcs to start- ended up having to change those but that may be pilot error:) bell roof 3 arc.zip Roof pic.pdf
  11. Need more info, screen shot, post plan, error message

Could eliminate the room definitions for the individual rooms. Instead make each unit a room by setting any setting interior walls to no room definition. Copy an paste the existing room labels first and you don't have to add them manually. Downside is that any finishes defined by room (such as floor) all change and have to be added separately.
  13. Not necessarily the answer you're looking for but can be done in PDF. I use Bluebeam-they have a trial which last I knew was fully functional. Would get you through.
  14. Larry- you can eliminate the gap- set symbol Y origin to 13/16, cabinet front to traditional overlay with 0" overlaps. Have to use false drawer for drawers or the drawer box pokes through the front, and use a two door symbol as "door panel" for two door cabinets so hardware and swing indicators are manually placed.
  15. There was a discussion a while back and a few solutions were found. Attached is zip with a couple of plans and libraries using two approaches I came up with. One is to make door symbols with the frame and use them as full overlay doors- the other is to make door symbols with just a bead and use those as traditional overlay doors. If I remember correctly someone also tried a door symbol with a bead that they used as an inset. (gives an extra space between the door) Should give you some ideas. Beaded Inset Trad.zip
  16. Open spreadsheet- set the cell borders you want to show, select the cells you want, copy. In Chief click rich text icon, click on plan, when dbx opens just paste.
  17. You can copy and paste cells as text, cell borders will show in rich text. In both cases all spreadsheet function is lost.
  18. Just rediscovered this in my a few of my assistants plans (I forgot to tell him) Practically ALL of the appliance symbols in ALL the catalogs are set to the appliances actual dimension rather than the opening size. IOW the symbol for a 30 range is 29-7/8, some symbols are a full 1/4" narrow. Change either the object dimension or the bounding box width of appliances to match the correct opening size. Place in your user catalog and use from there.
  19. I've recently begun to save a "temporary" template for jobs that require several initial versions. I find it makes managing multiple versions of a plan in a layout simpler, less prone to mistakes than using SAM with a layout open.
  20. I mostly use templates but my needs are different since I'm working primarily interiors. So I use the templates for both varied room heights and for different cabinets defaults. Sometimes, when I have not bothered to set a template for something OR all the defaults I need are in an existing project I use SAM. Had a thought regarding interior cameras- was thinking it would be nice if we could have a view in layout and be able to relink it to a specific camera instead of just a plan. Click view in layout and link to a camera view in a plan? Might make layout for sheets with interior elevations easier.
  21. Here is a door kit plan that can be used in HD products. I'm not sure which of these procedures work in the Suite version, hope enough so you can use them. IF it doesn't allow converting to a symbol then these won't do you much good since the only 3D export Suite offers is dxf which it won't import. In that case you'll be better off in Sketchup which a lot of folks use to create door symbols. I included: a couple of door kits not yet made into symbols, a few molding profiles, a couple of cameras I use to check (I think these only work in Pro version though) and adjust the molding placement (I think these only work in Pro version so getting the 3D molding line properly placed will be a challenge), and a couple of doors symbols so you can check the sizing tab to see how to set the stretch planes. Save it as a template. Open it, pick a door to work on, delete all the others, save as, change moldings and panel if need be, delete the wall and cameras, take a 3d view and convert to symbol.
  22. Lou, is that something I'd do on this end? If so I'll figure it out and repost the plan
  23. Not sure if you realize that the only items in the Kraftmaid catalog are Doors and drawers, Finishes, and wood species. FWIW none of the brands I use have catalogs in Chief. I set a default template to have the correct toe, top drawer hieght and overlay. I also make a folder in my user catalog where I add cabinets as I modify or build them for each mfg. I used to collect doors from whatever manufacturer catalog had something close but now I make them. I think you can do all of those things in HD? IF you can't make doors in HD you can in Sketchup and then import them. I don't know if HD opens chief files but if it does I've posted a couple of Plan files that are door kits. They can be used as a starting point to make door symbols or as a guide to one method of doing that.
