  1. The easiest work arounds- IF you have a pdf program that takes snapshots AND allows you to create a blank page THEN-create blank page(s) take snap shot(s), paste- till you have them all. The program I use allows scaling of the snapshots as well. Then print that OR IF you have a pdf program that allows you to "select window" to print. IF you don't have that I believe the trial version of Bluebeam Revu is fully functional, good for 30 days. It will do either of those things. Else new layout-which takes longer going that small.
  2. When sending a plan for Chief Viewer use you make an empty folder, then " back up entire plan" into that folder. All textures and materials needed are put there. I've never had this problem on upgrade but I always have the prior version installed. Another option, is to restore the old Chief data folders to the machine. Might be a better choice. I don't know if you need to migrate the materials etc to the x7 data folders.
  3. Empty folder-X5-File-backup entire plan. Then open that file in X7. Might work
  4. Re sent the zip file. No doubt you can see from the pic of the open DBX- I'd tried the 2D Block tab..a few times. Creating a new block worked thanks. When I inserted the block into the plan it is not a closed pline but just lines- I assume that is why it won't take a fill. I just don't understand how it got that way on some and not on others. I know that the ones I started with all were closed.??
  5. Making a bunch of desktop symbols (for schedule reasons- counters won't do what I need) Trying to use a transparent fill- some show the fill, some don't? All were made from the same original piece which had molding on 4 sides. I just copied into a separate plan, edited and converted to symbol. Each is set as furnishings interior- type desk. I have some I made the other day that look just like the test -molding on one edge only. Just a different size, and those work fine?? Any ideas? pic and plan attached. TIA Desk tops.zip
  6. Joe, what I did (in a rush) was make a symbol for a dishwasher that is 23.25 deep, included a 3.75 x 4.5 toe space (subtraction thanks to JC . Made it an appliance and put in library. Leave everything else set as default. Place new DW symbol. Place base cab-toe hgt = 0, height off floor =4.5, hgt= 29.75, width =23.75, depth =.75. Add a 3/4 thick stick (from my library) for a toe kick, (uncheck show in schedule for that item and suppress label) Placed a custom counter on top- set the height and thickness -not from cabinet. Block it all, add to library. Do Not check treat as one in schedule. You can tab through the block to change to whatever you need for your cabinets are- full overlay 0 reveal, inset, door panel and false drawer, door panel, change dimensions, toe height to 4" BUT you only have to change what doesn't use defaults. Label can be set to mfg code. Tab do the DW symbol-open components to list Mfg, etc. Cabinet shows in schedule with correct dimensions and label you give it, DW shows in appliance schedule. I'm glad this came up since this just occurred to me last night when reading. In the past I'd tried all the usual work-arounds, I like this better. What I have not yet played with is getting the DW to show the mfg size in the schedule while occupying a 24" wide space. It would be swell to be able to set the height off the floor based on a default toe height but I'll just make a second one for 4" toe. then will make a couple of fridges...after I finish this office complex.
  7. Jenni- in the meantime just clean that one up a bit-(fix counter height and toe kick depth) Block it and place your library. Reuse it and adjust the cabinet on the front to match whatever your using. Then make one for fridges, or whatever else you need.
  8. I realize it's suggested we just give hints but schedules have become dear to my heart so I sympathize. AND I didn't know the answer but I tried something. Deconstruct the attached plan to see the principal, fix to suit your needs. dw in schedule.zip
  9. Only in height- if it doesn't like the width it rejects it. BUT you can increase the size of the cabinet, place the appliance and then resize the cabinet. Ovens are always bigger than the cutout for them- which is what I'd like to be able to use for the size AND still have the appliance look correct in plan, elevation and 3D
  10. Have a situation where I need multiple cabinet schedules- that is: one that lists all cabinets on both floors, for ordering as there are many identical items another by floor, (I could get away without this one if I could get...) and yet another that per room (needed for staging, installers...) If I do this I get multiple schedule numbers for each item on the plan. Tried hiding the first set of schedules on a separate layer- no luck still get the numbers. Then thought maybe I could get the labels onto a different layer. I've been unable to do that. Is there a way aside from multiple plans? I'd prefer it were live since there are so many in this job so exporting the schedule then redoing is not ideal- think I'd be better off with multiple plans? Anybody ever deal with something like this?
  11. Thanks Michael- I'd sort of guessed that but couldn't figure out how to change it. Your post spurred me on that it was possible- just got it. I kept trying to select a new block and then "generate block" which didn't work. Thanks again.
  12. When I place a Cat5 symbol in plan the dimensions snap to one side- but the same dimensions is centered in elevation and I would guess 3D view. Generate block loses the universal symbol and turns it into a wall plate in plan. Is there a way to force it to snap to the center in plan? I have locate quite a few of these to fix cabinet locations -they flipped the cabinets for the offices on second floor but forgot to flip the electric and the exec secy and CEO office were not even thought about. It would help if I can get things looking right in both plan and elevation.
  13. Staying with 7 for those plans that are in it. I've got too much work invested in X7 plans and no time to muck with it. The biggest issues I had were with X6 plans brought over so keeping those where they are but they are mostly finishing up. New work will all be in 7. It's a bit annoying but not brutal, crashes stopped, just sluggish (but then so am I). Couple of days ago I loaded my secondary, Interiors license, onto the Dell (less juice) to see if we could use it with my new hire. I didn't spend much time on it but it felt snappier- like 6.That machine has fewer other programs at start up and is Win 7 Pro. We will also be swapping it back and forth to a Mac that doesn't with about the equivalent juice. I'll hope to be able to keep an eye on what is up there as I get that machine up and running. Will be in use on Thursday at least some. I expect to be upgrading that license to Premier within a week or so but I'd be surprised if that makes a difference. I really would like to find some time to trouble shoot what's on the system that may be causing trouble. Be a while before I can fiddle with mine though.
  14. I was just checking in the "on line training seminars " as I have a new hire who needs training. Was looking for a one day class as I took to start. Not there BUT, in the " on demand" section there is a quick start guide, 3 hours. I called to check and you can start and stop it. Might be better place to start...might not but I'm going to pay my guy to take it.
  15. try center object tool for front to back alignment. After that use the arrow keys for side to side until it bumps, when in doubt I move it away then back till it bumps. Back to back I usually manage with snaps but it it's acting up-resize the first cabinet to match the end of the front run-center, bump, resize from one side with temp dims. Odd and finicky things I use point to point or throw some dims in to move an item to "0"
  16. I usually use the material eyedropper set to component mode. Float a glass door from the main library to get the glass. Some door symbols will work, some will instead change the entire door. I've begun to replace all doors with my own so I can control grain and panels. Posted a "kit" or two over in symbols a while ago. The kit isn't perfect but works.
  17. I use a freeware (for so long and so much that I sent em a donation) prog called Stickies I used to use ClipMate for these kind of things-more robust but not free, don't remember why I stopped. I ought to at least load it back as I have a decade of assorted stuff in it. Both are PC only afaik.
  18. Of course it does Scott. Don't shoot the messenger I don't know what he's trying to achieve or why. I was just noting that what the OP is experiencing is the way it is and if it's really important the only answer I know of is to hide it all (except see below). Once in a while I do this for a particular view and place that counter on it's own layer that I can turn off for other views. Though usually I have module lines on- want to know what I'm ordering- so not an issue. It's a pick your poison situation- turn on cab module lines those "extras" go away, turn em off and they appear, hide em with a counter and lose everything below, make the counter transparent and they are back...unless you turn on module lines. Who's on first... The other way to get rid of the "extras" is to make each side of the island out of one cabinet and divide them to suit in the DBX. Which is fine if they are being built that way.
  19. Those lines are normal behavior. To get rid of them use custom counter top, move to front group, front of group.
  20. Sorry Graham, I wasn't clear. I get the same result as you. It appears to work in the dbx, reverts in after its closed. " Try in 3 D?" was directed at Alaska son since who said it works. How about a screen shot with it at 4?
  21. Hm, I tried it with no luck, kept reverting as graham noted. Did you check it in 3d after? Tried zones, planes. My thought was it has to fit an electric box?
  22. I'm on win 8 not 8.1- crashes have gone but lag persists. Emptied the undo folders and that helps. I'd cleaned as Perry suggested back a ways- made no difference. Crashes stopped after one of the updates (but I haven't been in those files or used those symbols since). Background- Logitich mouseware, Ultramon, Stickies (it ain't that), Windows Defender, DisplayLink. Chief with a plan and a layout plus 5-6 tabs- occasionally second plan file. Other progs-Bluebeam, Intellect, Directory Opus, occasionally firefox, open office. All the same as always. Only thing different is 7 If it's a conflict mouseware would be my hunch?? May try to disable it if I get free...hahah.
  23. For quick I use Michaels method for this or clipped corners-but it's a pain during revisions. For clipped corners Grahams method has the advantage in that it gives a better looking toe at the clip, a little easier for revisions. It is particularly useful IF you know you will need it ahead of time- set the cabinet defaults so all are above the floor- revise away- draw the toe last which can be a psolid or just a molding line.
