  1. Unfortunately Not, but there have certainly been times I would have used it. Ahhh, that's probably why I never switched to it Lew
  2. I still use PDF995 which use to come with Chief in the "old days" I haven't used it with Chief since X9 but I use it for anything else on the web etc I want to save to PDF I assume Chief's PDF writer can be used outside of Chief ? I also use PDF995 Edit and the suite of tools that come with PDF995 if you buy it Lew
  3. and IF X14 is released 30 days + prior to your SSA expiration it also will be "free" the releases are usually done Q1 - X13 is running late due to Covid Lew
  4. I do it the way he wants it done Maybe the boss needs to change ? or maybe not ? As a Systems Analyst/programmer I had to tell the boss many a time that it "can't be done" they then get to make a decision of how we proceed from there as you stated we have to follow their decision the "blame" for what happens is on them Lew
  5. IF the 1/4" is not "critical" the dims should be set to the nearest inch as in 12' 1" My goal was to have as few fractions as possible IF needed they were to the nearest 1/2" only critical dims should be more precise than 1" or 1/2" I do agree that Chief could benefit from the suggestion as more options are always nice to have available Lew
  6. Note: plans are NOT backward compatible once upgraded to a newer version that plan can't be opened in the older version Chief makes an archive version of the older plan which can be opened in the older version but its best to make your own backups too Lew
  7. Antoine: no idea - I have PaintShop Pro and it has a video capture tool I suspect there are free capture tools to be found via Google Lew
  8. I recommend Intel I7 processor my first computer was in 1978 my recommendation is spend $$ on items that can't be upgraded later with USB ports etc external HD's etc can be added later laptops can be connected to large TV's - I use a 38" in office and a 60" in my living room for X13 check out the requirements for top-end video cards for doing super fast - renders and rays Lew
  9. my partner Joe created a different visual method 1318_RISER_DIAGRAMS.zip
  10. I have X13 installed on my Surface Pro 4 it only has 4 GB of ram and has a built-in video card I haven't tried any plans yet but I suspect there could be issues with rendering or even just size of plan I'm thinking of getting the Surface Pro 7 with 16 GB of ram with the understanding that rending and rays may not work or work well but I am retired and my friend (partner) can do those for me Lew
  11. I am still amazed that Chief has never had a Chimney tool Oh well... Lew
  12. Rick: I have been requesting locks since I started with Chief 9.5 in 2006 there has been great resistance from other users and from CA it is deemed "user error" the chorus to my Lock Song is I don't care if its user error I really don't care if its user error LEAVE my walls alone at a minimum Chief could pop up a warning that a Locked area was going to be changed this warning could be a user preference item for those who don't want/need such warnings Lew
  13. its an old song - but I'll sing it anyways "it would be nice to have wall-room-floor-area locks" Lew
  14. also one on June 17 Lew
  15. the best way to learn the software is to model your own house - or a house for a family member or friend you have constant access and can keep measuring and modeling until you get it "right" you will be surprised how easy it is to create walls and doors and windows as for roofs and stairs you can learn those too or hire someone to do those anyone with a compatible version of Chief Premier can set the edit flag so the plan can be modified in HD PRO if Premier features are used they can be viewed but not edited Lew
  16. Hmmm, I would think that if Chief can detect the height difference and want to change the wall type then maybe Chief is smart enough to ask if it should change the wall type ? Lew
  17. probably best to discuss with CA's tech support they would be interested to know Lew
  18. I retired in 2012 due to health yet I keep my SSA current and will be doing so again in a few days if you are a PRO you should stay current most releases have at least a few new features that are "worth it" furthermore, if you later decide to "catch up" you will pay more and never had the pleasure of using it Lew
  19. suggestion, use blue fill for the sinks etc., so they have water in them Lew
  20. My partner Joe was doing these prior to 2008 I don't have any samples handy at this time with everything having been archived when we closed the business in 2012 Lew
  21. NOTE: material list can be exported to Excel and then edited there but if any changes in Chief plan it would then be needed to be repeated Lew
  22. watch the training videos and learn way too complex a subject to describe here you can learn how - I did ... Lew
  23. Jim: I agree ... almost 15 years ago I suggested that Chief create a schedule with all that info and more there are numerous "official" methods of calculating "living space" depending on the industry needing the info the schedule could include the most common ones then the user could chose the needed data - easy peasy so far - crickets time and again a new user has to ask how to restore the missing "living area" and has to be informed about "plan check" - which is totally non-intuitive and non-user friendly even experienced users forget about that "secret Handshake" if they haven't used it for awhile using Ruby should be for "power" users - not for basic "standard" info Lew
  24. check out the MS Surface PRO versions prices range from $599 - $1999 I3, I5, I7 also SQ series (may not run software ?) can be tablet or laptop - very lightweight I have the docking station that gives additional ports Lew
