  1. How have you been drawing all your plans with tilted/sloped walls up till now? Michael: Ummm, with workarounds - what else Lew
  2. Ron: I have always liked this quote: ' In modern times, the US Armed Forces have taken as their slogan, 'The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer. ' Lew
  3. Robert: thanks for the clarification Lew
  4. Joe: please refresh my memory is eliminating the interior stuff to reduce size of the symbol or is there another reason ? is it "mandatory" or just a good idea its been years since I made a building into a symbol Lew
  5. In the early days of Chief there were no roof tools workarounds were created to use terrain as roof planes eventually Chief had roof tools I doubt if CA programmed terrain to act as roofs (does anyone know ?) but they did see the desire/need for them Lew
  6. Joe: maybe it doesn't make sense but the suggestion was to use roof planes etc my reply was that IF that workaround works then CA SHOULD be able to program it as a new feature Lew
  7. vertical on the interior and simply sloped on the exterior Joe: could that be handled the same as double walls in a basement ? Lew
  8. Roof planes and skylights. Hmmm, interesting workaround if that does work then it should be something CA could program as a new wall type etc Lew
  9. you can trick Chief into giving you back your Living Area Label on Floor 0 by enclosing a little room off to the side that is completely separate from the rest of the structure. Now connect that room to the existing structure with a connecting wall. Now simply delete all those new walls. Michael: Nice workaround I sure hope CA fixes this newbie trap soon Lew
  10. yes, just hasn't been announced yet you have to apply - contact CA's sales team for into I think the email might be BETA@chiefarchitect.com Lew
  11. Joe: Perhaps they should Yet, they don't they look in the intuitive places then get frustrated and post here how many times has this happened ? Why does it have to happen ? these "newbie" traps are unnecessary Lew
  12. Dermot: sorry, but your reply is "fishy" for decades now this issue has popped up time and again obviously, doing a plan check is not intuitive and is not "user friendly" but if CA likes to frustrate its users - then so be it ... if if can be fixed via plan check then it can be fixed via a dedicated "living area" tool and placed where a user might be expected to look for it Lew
  13. need to use the plan check tool to bring it back and once again this Gremlin strikes Lew
  14. I suggest doing detached buildings in a separate plan then create a 3D symbol of the building store in the library then place the symbol in the master plan and rotate as needed Lew

  16. I heard before that you at least have to give the file a name for the archive system to work ? use save as often sometimes every few minutes certainly after finishing a task I don't want to repeat each save as has the date and time in the file name I don't use or rely on Chief's archive system Lew
  17. I have a handicapped Golden Retriever to get him in/out of my car I needed steps that were 2' deep so he could get his entire body onto one step before doing the next the system also needed to fold together and take minimal space in the car my partner/friend modeled them and once I approved he built them they worked fine Lew
  18. did you mean Ver. 4 or Ver. X4 ? X4 would have only been about 8 years old I started with Chief in 2005 with v9.5 Lew
  19. Freddie: bugs can be reported directly to CA you can also report them in the Suggestions section of the HD or Chief forum Lew
  20. designing a step and stair combo for assisting my Golden Retriever in/out of my SUV latest design is using a lawn mower lift as a Dog-E-Vator to raise and lower him as he is too weak now to navigate the step/stair combo planning to finalize the cad drawings and possibly apply for a patent or at least sell the designs to vendors who make dog aids Lew
  21. I also use Chief to model historic buildings from my family's history Terrapin Tower at the brink of the Canadian Niagara Falls (Horseshoe Falls) 1833 - 1873 Buttery Elevators at the Niagara Whirlpool 1869 -1901 Buttery Sawmill in Silvermine CT 1745 - 1955 one goal is to place the models on Google Earth for the Buttery Elevators there will be several models showing the changes over time Lew
  22. I use Chief's layout to create historical presentations I could use powerpoint but I'm familiar with Chief's layout now that we can have two layouts open at the same time it will be even nicer Lew
  23. there are two schools of users: 1. floor 0 is for foundation and basement 2. floor 0 is for foundation only CA follows school 1 for the most part either method works in fact, foundation could be on floor 1 and basement on floor 2 it would be unorthodox but it would work since the terrain can be placed on any floor Lew
  24. with Gmail I can send files of any size via the cloud if over 25 MB Gmail uses the cloud auto-magically recipient gets a link to download Lew
