Designer1, you will need to click on each roof plane for materials, and you'll probably want to make other small adjustments there. As you know, you can describe the pitch in the wall dbx. Hope that you'll post a pix in the Gallery section when completed!

TIps On Elevation Layouts & Measurements.
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to fredgar52's topic in Tips & Techniques
Welcome to the CA Forum, Fredgar! I worked designing homes in Florida from 1972 - 2008 (ugh, what a tough year in FL). I'm now in Huntsville, AL and spend 1/2 my time designing kitchens, 1/4 doing interiors for Realtors, & 1/4 goofing off. My voice will be part of a choir of others offering you help nearly 24-7. You'll find help at odd hours from our international community. You'll soon find that to get the best help, ask the best question enlisting photos, screen shots, a compressed copy of the plan, a step-by-step run down of what caused the problem, and what you've tried. Of course, it's best to start with the Help function built into CA. Then search this forum for questions similar to your's. Doing research to solve a problem is one of the best ways to learn CA. It's also helpful to set up your Profile & Signature - including your location and the specifics of your system. (For instance, there may be a known issue with a video card.) It won't be long before you are offering advice! BTW: I bought CA soon after Hurricane Andrew (ver 1) so that our general contractor could communicate in Miami & Coral Gables via 3-D graphics to non-English speaking tradesmen. Those old 3-D's were cartoonish by today's standards - but they were worth a thousand words! Chief Architect has both made & saved us a lot of money over the years. You've made a great investment. Welcome Aboard!- 4 replies

Cedar Railings with Wrought Iron Knuckles and Baskets
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to Kbird1's topic in Symbols and Content
Thanks, Mick. I had not followed a thread on how to do this. Thanks for pointing out how it's done so that we can make other styles, too. -
Mick, so sorry that you're not feeling well. You are very gracious to share your talents - especially while under the weather. Be Well Soon!

How Do I Import Someone Else's Room Planner File?
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to Cheryl_C_Crane's topic in General Q & A
Perry, I like that idea! What Scott Harris recommends is to only draw walls and fenestration with Room Planner, then import. Since we don't want to design in Room Planner, just use it as a front end, this works really well. I've learned to use the Lieca Bluetooth laser and drop dim's right into Room Planner - SWEET! This was the only experience where I have imported someone else's Room Planner file, and my customer just loved it. But, I am now wisened! -
Kirby, what color are they set to be? White? Woodgrain? If you'll post a plan +/- screen shots we can tell more. Is there something shadowing the cab's? Do you have a light source that has "Shadows On" What is your 3D Interior lighting setting?

Only thing to do is as suggested: Room Finish Schedule and DryWall Notes.

How Do I Import Someone Else's Room Planner File?
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to Cheryl_C_Crane's topic in General Q & A
Here's a caveat: have all your defaults set like the project being imported> save as a template> tell CA that this will be the default template> import from Room Planner. I THINK! I got all tangled up futzing around correcting defaults from a very nice and remarkably complete Room Planner drawing - I could have drawn it in 1/2 the time, but dim's didn't come over. Maybe it was because the defaults in Room Planner weren't set correctly: ceiling height, cab style and heights, etc. (they were drawn, but didn't import which is consistent with the knowledge base info). This was a 2 Aleve headache - but, I'm sure that we are on the verge of having a wonderful new input device for CA. -
How'd you come out? I do this customization all the time as it really pleases customers.

How Do I Import Someone Else's Room Planner File?
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to Cheryl_C_Crane's topic in General Q & A
OK. We'll see how things work out. My customer is a Federal cyber-security agent. I've asked him to reset the passcode on the account for me, and will let him know when I've downloaded the file. Hope that he's cool with that. Please consider moving up the roll-out of the file sharing across accounts, maybe like LockBox? I have a restoration contractor who is always asked about making small changes to homes before restoring them. We have talked about him using Room Planner, so that I can import into CA. I'd like for him to supply the measurements as it would save me time and liability. He doesn't want to 'draw the house 2x'. He is using Xactimate estimating software and they have a Mickey Mouse front end drawing program. Hope that you are actively pursuing Xmate to become their front end. Also, with Realtors it would be important to share Room Planner drawings with other Realtors, appraisers, inspectors, tradesmen, etc. -
How do I import someone else's Room Planner file? Must I ask them for their passcode to their Room Planner cloud account? Can they post it to my account without my passcode? I am looking forward to actually doing this. Huntsville, Alabama, is an extremely techie city. I have a cyber security customer who has fallen in love with Room Planner. He is doing a whole house remodel and has drawn the basic plan in Room Planner. Room Planner is a great tool (but clumsy at first) and I think that it will open avenues to skilled CA users. Thanks for your help!

Gosh it's been a l o n g time since I've been around ver 10. I believe that you can do this by 2 ways in ver.10. 1. in elevation view(s) pull the top of the walls up to where you want them 2. on the 2nd floor, put a room labeled "Open Below" over the 1st floor chimney. Be sure to open that room and mark it for no ceiling/roof. Sorry that I don't remember when the dialog boxes changed. Hope that this is helpful, but you need to reward yourself with ver. 17. You'll experience a learning curve, but it will be made up by the improvements in work flow.

Manufacturer Catalogs - Create A Buzz
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to Chief_Content's topic in Symbols and Content
As KBird1 is requesting brand specific plumbing fixtures, I'd like to see appliances by manuf. (GE, Whirlpool/Frigidaire, KitchenAid, Bosch, LG, Samsung) with accurate dim's. I'm more interested in the dim's being accurate than the look of the appliance - especially for appliances being placed into cabinets.- 58 replies

Manufacturer Catalogs - Create A Buzz

I'd really like to have current upholstery fabrics, however, I don't know who makes upholstery fabrics for manufacturers. Hmm, I'll try some searches.- 58 replies

Does Ca Allow For Master Plan Architecture?
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to adamantdesign's topic in General Q & A
This method works quite well. We did a small semi-custom subdivision 72 homes. I had 6 'stock' plans that buyers could modify within the same footprint (with some slight exceptions). I set up each plan as a template that even included the Terrain perimeter of a standard 80' x 125' lot and set-back lines so that the site plan was nearly complete. As they were sold, I worked with each Buyer to make it their own. It was easy and only limited by my patience! -
Alan, After you have blocked the window & door together, open the DBX for the Mulled Unit, and Specify the Label. It will then appear in the Door Schedule with the name that you have assigned under the Label column, and the description as a mulled unit.

It's further exaggerated when long pulls are the default. As Scott said, the work around is to remove the handle/pull and apply manually (eyeballing it) from the library as a symbol.
