Reflections not showing in X10 PBR
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to Cheryl_C_Crane's topic in General Q & A
Thanks for the reply, Graham. These worked yesterday morning. I powered down and went to lunch. Powered back up and no reflections.- 14 replies

On bended knee, I beg to find out why I can NO LONGER get reflections on mirrors. My library of Materials is up to date. Please note the little toolbar of buttons from the Cross Section Slider tools. Light are set to 100 and only 3 are on, there is a window in the WC. The White Frames have a material with Emissivity of 5 (Lamp Shade). I love PBR , sort of. I'd appreciate your thoughts, ~Cheryl

Cabinet hacks-clips, stiles, sides and interiors
Cheryl_C_Crane replied to MarkMc's topic in Tips & Techniques
Thanks, Mark! I really love the features in Cab.'s that you helped with. Many Thanks! -
I dearly love some of the new cabinet features in X10! Going backward is equally painful.

Charles, I highly suspect that it's something like this. I only went to RT because I saw everything turn green with PBR. I have futzed more with materials in the last couple of weeks than I thought I ever would. I really like PBR, and being able to modify on the fly. We'll get it down soon. I've have had the pleasure of meeting the CA staff in Cour d'Alene and at trade shows. I have total confidence that they won't leave us with a dangling participle called PBR.

Then it was the Full Release when I started getting gummy. I wonder if there's a firewall issue with my system. As soon as I can, I'm going to leave it with my fav tech guru to go over. I just about cried when RT took 15 min to put out 1 pass. Normally, I could get 10 passes out of x9 in that time. I hope that it's a quick fix because I rely on CA to sell kitchens. I've been so successful at CA first, 20-20 later that I have the highest per hour sales goal of 2 regions (not districts - regions). I've created a monster!

Mine issues are pretty much Chief X10 isolated as usually, it's the only thing running. I suppose that it could still be with my system, though.

I'm seeing it, but it started for me with the update before this last one. Sometimes my system freezes - mouse won't move, CTRL-ALT-DEL won't work, etc. Just have to wait it out. Yesterday I waited 15 min for the 1st pass of Ray Trace, and PBR was green. Rebooting helped, but I think that it needs to be frequent on my system.

Wow! This is very useful! Many Thanks! ~Cheryl

Wow, you are full of PBR wisdom! I have never adjusted the drop rate and cut-off angle - ever. I think that I'll print this thread and Highlight all these pearls. I freq. have used counterbalancing point lighting to wash areas, but not the cut-off or drop rate. We need a Global Setting for Lighting now. Maybe we wiil move to Kelvin instead of guessing the color.

OK, I'll go back and ck defaults. I have a lot of template files, maybe I didn't change all of them, and started this adventure on 1 that wasn't corrected. There's a lot of tweaking of templates between rev.'s. Thanks for affirming that we can do a global setting. I was following your quest for hardware improvement - now I understand that it's pulling from both. PBR is worth every Kitchen Designer's time investment just for those minor adjustments that we have to make on every plan. I so greatly appreciate the guidance on this new tool! Thanks!

Excellent! I just figured out that you must set the number of lights to <8 for each Camera. Silly me thought that I could just set up a Template and rock on - not so. Might you know if the PBR is on the CPU or the Video Card? I'm really looking forward to mastering PBR! And, I'm sorta bummed that I can't get a RT like I am used to seeing. Here's another room in the same home where there is a H U G E variance in the floor color. Natural Maple is correct.

LOL! Lights set to 100 - now the Canning Jar 3 light Chandelier is off. I'll get there, and I'll remember how.

PBR started a fire in the Family Room that I am working on! I was trying to get the Recessed lights over the FP to come on, and to figure out why the fire was not showing up on the FP doors when it was a Fire material. So, I went to the Library and selected Fire 5. When I sprayed it on using the Component can - POOF. There must have been a strong back draft because in an instant fire was running up the wall and the wall was scorched. You have to laugh...here's the evidence OK, I think I figured this out. I pulled the FP 1/4" further into the room and we are good. Now, back to those eyeball lights.

Thanks, Graham. I'll try adjusting the Sun & its intensity for the PBR. The materials are most like the middle picture (blond floor) Behr grey walls. (Of course, the furnishings are just a figment of my imagination.) . I am baffled with the floor change in RT, though. Appreciate the direction, ~C

I love the PBR quality of being able to make changes on the fly with near -0- wait. I can't wait to get it all figured out! Here are 3 techniques of the same shot, what am I doing wrong to have RT change the hardwood floors so much? Why does PBR change the wall and left arm of the loveseat? Can you point me in the direction of good training videos (more than the few 2-3 min long on sun angles and PBR)

Graham, I played with the glass by changing the property to General Material > Transparency 50% to be able to 'see' it on a glass coffee table with PBR. HTH

Just a note to thank everyone's efforts to make the Cabinet side of CA better. My use of CA X10 has been very enjoyable (even with temp workarounds). Kudos to all my fellow Kitchen & Bath Designers like Mark, Michael, Mick, Rob, & others for your persistent input for advancing these features. To the dedicated Staff in Cour de Lean - BRAVO! (and keep going).
