  1. It definitely works. I've been doing it for years with different versions. I've edited Chief's gas meter to look more like what we generally use, edited a TV so now I have a TV with a wall mount stand (done years ago), edited a garage door so now I have a library with garage doors open so you see the garage door open with tracks. There are more that I've done too including electrical items.
  2. Graham is correct in saying that you can not unblock a symbol from Chief's library. However, can you edit it to make a new symbol? YES. I've done it several times. However, I'm not sure you're able to do it with the "Interiors" version. Place the symbol in a blank plan, take a vector overview. Using the delete surface tool, start deleting the faces of the symbol you don't want. Once done and before you close out the overview, convert it to a symbol and now it's in your user library. In plan view, delete what you did or start a new blank plan. Place that symbol you just put in the library in the plan. Now add the new things or items you want in the new symbol using whatever tools you need to accomplish it. Take a vector overview and save that as a new symbol. Now you have it. BTW, when deleting surfaces from the original symbol, you'll need to rotate the symbol around in the overview to see and delete all faces needed. If you close the overview before saving to the library, you'll have to start all over.
  3. Try saving it as a dwg instead of a dxf and see if that helps? I always do dwgs.
  4. I do as Perry does....draw it manually. Much easier and faster for me. Dealing with this same problem this morning for someone to fix it.
  5. I do all my cable railing completely manual using molding polylines. This way I can space my cables exactly how I want. You'll probably get several answers.

    X marks

This tool is very helpful when using manual roof planes and seeing where they intersect each other. I use it all the time.

    X marks

Those are temporary points generated when you select a roof plane. Go to the points parent tool and you'll see that you can delete temporary points.
  8. As you see, there's generally more than one way to do things in Chief.
  9. I use polyline solids in an elevation. This eliminates this problem.
  10. Oh yea, I'm showing her 3 different ways to approach this. Modo555, if you can't figure it out, send me an email (email below) and I'll show you what Eric is talking about.
  11. This is funny. I'm doing an online meeting this afternoon showing a girl how to do this very thing.
  12. I do my water connections different now in X9. I use the new niche tool in X9. Size it and place it where I want. I created a new "symbol" that I use. I place the symbol in the plan, set the height off the floor and control drag it into the niche. The symbol shows in the plan view so no cad block representation is needed. I attached the X9 library if anyone is interested in using this method. Side note: In the library for the symbol, I have the box dimensions shown that I use but any box size could be used. 13. You can contact me if you like (my email and phone is below). It sounds like I draw pretty much the way you want. I can explain what I do and yes, it's all about using annotation sets.
  14. I believe I got those from 3D Warehouse several years ago. Not sure though.
  15. Wendy, I've had these home generators for several years. Don't know if it will help. Home Generators.calibz
  16. In X8, if you make a room, place a base cabinet, then go to the library, select and place a GFCI outlet over the cabinet, Chief will by default, place the outlet at 42" which is above the cabinet. In X9, if you do the same thing, Chief will NOT place the GFCI outlet from the library above the base cabinet. It would be nice if this could be fixed in the next update so we don't have to take extra steps or at least make it work like it did in X8.
  17. It appears that I was right. I see it was fixed in the new update I did this morning. See update 2.13 Doors. Just tried in the program and the problem is now fixed.Thank you Chief,
  18. It's fascinating to see what can be done with this program!
  19. Okay, this is a test that I did. All based on an 8' wide garage door. I never use the default out of box default profile plan that comes with Chief (Profile.plan). I usually bring a profile plan forward one time. Every two versions, I create a new profile plan. In the example below, I open a plan, go to My Documents>Chiefs data folder>templates>Profile.plan>open. Using an X8 default profile plan (Profile.plan): Place an exterior door>make it 8' wide>make it a garage door. By default, it will show 4 vertical panels, BUT if you go to the library for garage doors and select the carriage CHD04 door, the vertical panels automatically changes by default to 1 panel. Using an X9 default profile plan (Profile.plan): Do the same thing. The only difference is that when you go to the library to change the door to a CHD04 door, the vertical count stays at 4 and doesn't default to 1 like it did in X8. This is what I found. BTW, I never noticed this setting before in previous versions which was obviously there.
  20. Thank you Jonathan & Michael, setting to one panel is the answer. This is a new setting in X9. Solver, It wouldn't matter which door I used for they would all be wrong depending on the numbers of panels chosen. Also just so you know, by default, it was set at 4 panels which is what through me off.
  21. I'll try it. Just fixing to upload an image
  22. In X9, just tried using the carriage doors ( glass across top) for an 8' or 9' wide garage door. It doesn't work right AT ALL. Even my custom garage doors with glass don't work. THIS ALL WORKED FINE IN X8 and still does. Am I missing something?
  23. By default, it is 1" to 1" for the layout.
