  1. What I've always found odd is the the polyline conversion tool options don't include garden beds or distribution regions/lines. jon
  2. It's really a model issue. I usually correct all SU models in SU 2015 (and mootools poly cruncher) prior to bringing into CA. My imports show applied color fields which I replace with CA materials. As attached... jon
  3. I believe the stairs need to be enclosed in a "room", or the rails adjust to the connected room characteristics. From memory, haven't tested/used recently. jon
  4. Is this repeatable behavior? If it is, than it can be fixed. In my case--I have a bad habit of "riding" the right mouse button on a MS 4000 Mobile Mouse--if I am working in CA while watching a movie in Chrome, and I "ride" the right mouse button, a BSOD will happen. The error never happened until the Win 10 upgrade. The error is directly attributable to an unstable Fresco USB 3.0 driver. Solution for my BSOD; none, as Fresco has yet to issue updated drivers. All the instability I've seen to date with Win 10 (15 machines in my tech universe, with 8 upgraded to Win 10) is attributable to bad/old hardware drivers or a corrupt user account. Call TS, get them to help identify the cause. jon
  5. Based on the capabilities of which I'm aware, 34.6%--on a good day. jon
  6. Shane, Dennis, Curt; Thanks. Curt, you know I thought the exact same thing--a couple tufts of grass where the weed wacker missed. Too lazy on my part. Does anybody have a 3D Sea Oats model or know where I can get/buy one (like what pkegles uses in his Lumion shots)? jon
  7. Thanks Oz! I do like to complain about CA terrain tools, and I agree Revit is worse yet, and that's why I do most of my terrain work in SketchUp. However, on this project, I imported GPS points directly into Chief, then simplified the terrain with four elevation lines and two elevation regions (deleting the points when the moons of Saturn aligned and all was right with the model). It worked well. All without the need for third-party toolset intervention. jon
  8. My favorite thing to do in CA--landscaping. Modeled and ray traced in CA X7. Post using Alien Skin Exposure 7 and Photoshop CC 2015. jon
  9. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/user.html?id=0689629068175189811728180 His textures alone are worth the download, but the rocks are about the best I've seen. jon
  10. I need all the help I can get where landscaping is involved. What a great resource/style guide... http://www.landscapingnetwork.com/ jon
  11. Bill has a winner! The four plane roof with adjusted "Radius to Roof Surface". Thanks Brudda! jon
  12. Scott, I took your idea and extrapolated a 5 plane--no go. I just can't get the ellipse shape, just arches. jon
  13. I'm trying to model an elliptical gable end roof (see picture) with little success. Please help. The attached plan has some of my efforts (plan and elevation) and a blank scene if you want to try. I've tried single, double, and triple plane iterations, but it's beyond me. jon bell roof 02.plan
  14. Yes. 2D as well. Little QC/QA on this implementation. jon
  15. I had a boss who wanted my title to be, "Chief of Way Cool Technology." I balked, as Steve Jobs used that on his b-card. So, I became "Director of Metaphysics and Groovy Blinky Things." Went over big when dealing with the Gartner, IDC, Accenture crowd. I truly wanted "Great Chief Many Hats" but, HR said that was "raaacist" jon

  17. I use SketchUp 3D text and import into CA. This allows any font installed on your computer to be used, and you can apply any colors, transparency; heck, any attribute that can be applied to a symbol can be applied to your text. jon
  18. Too many variables to address on a user forum; call tech support. jon
  19. Or, turn on Photon Mapping in the ray trace settings. jon
  20. The built-in "Apps" are not particularly mature (functional). Office 365, or the free Outlook.com, are a better option at this stage. jon
  21. That comes with WindowBlinds10. No beta or release date yet. I'm just happy I can get a menu without "Tiles" jon
  22. Like This? It's Start10 from Stardock. They'll have WindowBlinds10 later in the year. http://www.stardock.com/products/start10/ jon
  23. Import into a blank plan, then create a symbol as normal... http://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00809/converting-an-object-into-a-symbol.html jon
  24. Use the Backsplash Builder from Crossville Tile to create the material, then apply it to a Wall Material Region as "Stretch to Fit" http://crossvilleinc.com/design-resources/ jon
