Playing with Google Earth Image on 3D Terrain
Chopsaw replied to postandbeam's topic in General Q & A
It is very limited as to how well a material will fit to the terrain contours but it definitely does make a nice presentation in the correct circumstances. I am not sure the terrain feature is any benefit as the top surface of the terrain perimeter is independent from the skirt. From your illustration it seems you still have a tiling issue around the perimeter so unless you can get that right you should maybe go back to the stretch to fit setting and then adjust your terrain setting so that the triangles are not visible. Are you hoping to add 2D content to that or just 3D for your presentation ? -
Sure thing but it is a bit of a process and not just a DBX check box. You will know a lot more about the software when you are done. Maybe two or three years ago @yusuf-333 developed a technique of precisely curving symbols that was specific to railings. You can look it up or perhaps he is available to comment.

Does it list a price ?

If you placed it in 3D it will be assigned to the floor level you were on in the 3D view regardless of the floor you actually put it on, but that is just a guess without seeing the plan file. But that is a little confusing if it is not appearing yet you can click on it ?

For tile you likely should be using a pony wall. There is a Wall Covering function for rooms but it is more suitable for paint or wallpaper. Wall material regions can also be useful in certain situations.

What's your workaround for a wood-framed handicap ramp up to a deck?
Chopsaw replied to GeneDavis's topic in General Q & A
X13? Use a roof plane with purlins. Should be a lot easier now than with previous versions. -
Edit > Edit Area > Edit Area (All Floors) should do it for you.

"It's important to note that even though these chipsets are supported, issues may arise when using Chief Architect, as well as other 3D intensive programs if your graphics driver is not kept up-to-date." https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03108/supported-intel-graphics-chipsets.html

There are likely a few methods that would work, but to avoid having to use a symbol window I would just take a cad detail from view of the window from and elevation view and then copy a polyline of the glass area back to the elevation view and snap a face to the polyline and paint that then carefully position it in plan view on the surface of the glass.. The problem is that the chief glass is essentially a polyline solid with 6 faces. Four edges and then a front and back and I don't think there is a way to have a material map to that properly. The "face" only has a single face so it works great for stained glass or fly screening.

I think there was someone with a similar request recently. Give them a call and they may be able sell you X13 and the product key would also work for X12 until you are ready to upgrade.

Did you adjust any of the wall in 3D ? Otherwise you may need to post the plan file because that is not normal. P.S. Signature needs updating when you have a moment.

No. Is the landing the same height as the deck ? If so change the shape of the deck and it will try to add posts to that for you. Otherwise just copy a post from the deck and position them under the landing where they need to be.

Ah... Like this ?

Could you illustrate what you are after with a text box in a screen shot ? Like this perhaps ?
-
It looks like you may have a paint layer in your wall definition based on the video but not the same in the posted screen shot for some reason but that does not account for the sill issues.

Is there a panel below to show that ? Possibly it was turned off. Toggle it back on with the "Show/Hide Selection Panel" toggle tool.

cannot center a pile below a railing wall post

Turn center snaps back on and see if it will snap. -

As you showed us in Preferences all of you object snaps are turned off. ?? Maybe place them on your side tool bar so you can keep better track of them. If it will not snap to center of the post with center snaps turned on, you may need to post the plan fie -
Yes reflections are quite a demanding rendering feature. A few bathroom mirrors are one thing but all the exterior windows would be quite another. Just like putting in 100 chandeliers with ridiculous face counts. You could turn reflections off to work and just have it on for a couple of renders that are important. Your video card is 8GB so it should do quite a bit for you.

I think the most specific you can get with a note in regards to elevation is the floor number. Unless you want to enter it manually into the note.

Unless @glennw has a clever answer I think you may have discovered a deficiency in X12 and X13.

Completely unnecessary. I have a system that does not require placement of polylines and is user maintainable. PM me if you are interested.
