Sure just make sure you download a compatible version for your version of CA and then Right click on your User Catalog in the Library and then New > 3D Symbol... and import your downloaded .skp file. Or Import > Import 3D Symbol.

There are a few examples in the core catalogue or check 3D wharehouse. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search/?q=string lighting v-ray lights
-
Those are excellent examples to send in Kevin. Also don't forget to mention the auto generated light fixture beside the doorway. Digital shadows ? What is up with that ?
-
Yup that does not work even though it makes perfect sense. Create a custom drywall color instead.

Obviously tech support looked at your plan file and I would need to see it to confirm but you may possibly be running into a rare issue with your dimension defaults. If it is not what @Kbird1 is suggesting I would be glad to take a look at your plan file before you delete X13.

Cross Section Call Out- Stop section display lines at building
Chopsaw replied to architect's topic in General Q & A
Might be easier to turn off the camera display and use the new construction lines. That sounds more like what you are after. -
Very nice Graeme, Even if you need to turn off framing and furnishings and possible other stuff you will have a useful file. Nice technique and it seems to be suited well to the construction technique on a level lot.

Reducing .pdf size of Layout File for online submission
Chopsaw replied to DeltaHome's topic in General Q & A
Most online submission sites do not allow for Chief Architect PDF's due to the file size unless you are ok with submitting fuzzy work like some people seem to think is ok. The best option is to upload to your own cloud account and provide the download link. -
The one that pops up and asks you if you want the roof to "fit together" when you make a manual adjustment ? I definitely miss that and was thinking the same thing.
-
Your choice. I have not personally pushed the software in that direction as hard as you have. But I have had my share of other breakdowns. Just be sure you have a backup of your original layout file before going back and taking a risk of crashing that again. No if your are successful at producing a PDF file that is all the printer needs. Notice that I said "if" as you may crash compiling the print preview so be sure and save before you try that. They should not have any issues with you submitting engineering in a separate file that is labeled appropriately but I am not from CA. The advantage I see in putting the engineering into your plan set is that it is more likely to be referenced and less likely to get lost but I don't think many people do it that way.
-
Do you want 8 - 8 1/2 x 11" x 8.75 = 70 engineering sheets on your Arch D title pages. If so maybe see how far your can get with your idea even if you need two or three layout files and then compile those with your plan set in Acrobat. Watch your page numbering though so there is continuity. I have not tried to layout and compile partial pages in Acrobat but maybe if the other does not work give it a try. Just export a blank title sheet and use that.
-
That would be an interesting experiment but you still may run into issues. If you do not have access to a PDF editor and you must accomplish this within Chief you may have a much better chance by converting the PDF's to a .PNG format and then import them. Please do not hesitate to contact tech support with your results and error codes after posting them here because it would be great if Chief could actually do this sort of thing when it is required to.
-
Larry, just let chief do the math. Stretch the smaller roof plane and snap it to the ridge intersection point then lock the "Fascia Top Height" and set the "Ridge Top Height" to be the same as the other roof plane. 250.5 in this case. If you want enter that into the wall def to turn auto roofs back on and see if it still works.
-
Sure there is a tool that is called Rescale Layout View But the you will need to change the Drawing Sheet Size and adjust or reimport your title block or do it the other way and send all your layout views to another existing template. There a a few users that have multiple sheet sizes in the same template for this exact situation but it takes a bit of time to set that up.

Where is the default setting for Terrain Elevation Data LABEL hidden?
Chopsaw replied to Wynsong's topic in General Q & A
Decimal Inches: Fractional Inches: No default setting that I am aware of unfortunately. -
Playing with Google Earth Image on 3D Terrain
Chopsaw replied to postandbeam's topic in General Q & A
The only part that is limited is the ability to apply it to the terrain and it only works with relatively mellow terrain currently. Also you need a project where you have a sight that is able to be used without much surface alteration or that has already been prepared for construction without the use of a dozer or bobcat. Some parts of the country are more suitable than others for this type of development process but when the conditions and sequencing is correct it is a nice solution. Here is one I did with 2D and 3D content included. -
There are still a lot of factors to consider. How "puffy" is your computer and how large and detailed is the overall project ? If it is really only comparable in overall square footage and complexity to something you have drawn before then by all means put it in one plan file. You could do one structure and the terrain in one file and dump the other two onto that terrain as symbols. There are a lot of possibilities.
-
Yes the symbol method is likely the best approach. I think multiple structures can be achieved in the same file but it gets rather technical if there is any sort of an elevation difference using absolute elevations. The other issue is that "Plane Jane" may not be up to the task if your surface counts start getting out of control. I would go with the symbol method as the better option.

Preventing Plan Views and Layouts from Changing
Chopsaw replied to DeltaHome's topic in General Q & A
Right click on the Saved Plan View in the Project Browser > Edit View... Just a little hidden away. -
If the text is layout text you can post the layout file and one of the experts may be able to figure it out for you. It may possibly be related to the font but that would be a bit of a stretch unless it is corrupt or modified.
-
For some reason it was the first time I looked when it was not in the floor overview but now it is gone again. Frustrating.
-
What actually fixed it Gene ? I think the foam is fine it just disappears in the floor overview for some reason but take a look at your 3D framing overview.
-
It looks like possibly the "text a" text box is set to typical plan defaults and other to layout defaults. Take a look at the margin settings for each.
