That looks a little tricky. You might need to create a false floor level to make that work. Definitely not an easy solution though. Hopefully someone has done that before and has a brilliantly simple solution.

I would start a new plan file that is square to the Shop and then decide if you want to bring a symbol of the house into that file or send a symbol of the shop to the original file.

You can use cad or a copy that has the same absolute elevation. Cad if you are using the material list.

Sorry that seems to be the way they do it in Idaho. No setting for that as far as I know. You can increase your Beam Spacing to correspond with a typical joist span but no way to position the beam.

Yes it is rather annoying for those of us that have a good high speed internet connection but I think Chief is concerned that there are still plenty of people that do not and they don't want the viewer to fail if it is capable of rendering in Basic mode on a marginal connection. When the client first opens the viewer there is a little memo that momentarily pops up in the upper right corner of the screen but it is hardy there for long enough for a new user to notice. It is definitely not the first thing someone would look at but it was the best that they came up with. Maybe some day it will be a little smarter and if it fails to open in Standard mode it would default to Basic. Pretty sure they have a lot of other stuff to worry about before that though.

I can see why you did it that way but it does not work for the doors. Try regular walls and define the height by the room.

Yes it is quite helpful to get opinions from experienced builders from around the country, so please post in the suggestions forum and the discussion can continue there. What we have now is a result of what I suggested a while back to match the roof framing setup to the wall framing setup just as you have suggested but they did not go quite as far as I think would be helpful.

Feature requests can be made in the Suggestions forum. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/forum/8-suggestions/ Are you clear now on the distinction between the "Fascia" and "Sub Fascia" ? It is done all different ways in different areas but the Sub Fascia is generally structural and the Fascia is mostly decorative.

So the issue is that the Fascia Top Height is incorrectly reported in the Roof Plane Specification DBX ? That is not exactly true. What you are illustrating is the Sub Fascia which is not reported at all in the Roof Plane measurements. The Fascia actually builds to the displayed Fascia Top height. So possibly for your situation you should make a feature request that the Sub Fascia height should be displayed in the Roof Plane DBX. Would that help ?

You can do a custom sill and lintel but if those uprights are tapered I think you are out of luck for automatic features and will need to use some polyline solids.
-
I don't seem to be having that issue. You may need to tell us what version you are using and post a test plan.

I unfortunately need to retract my previous statement that it does not seem to be happening to my older system. I had a lockup (SEH) while using the delete surfaces tool on a second monitor. Quite annoying.

You cannot place it in the Parent menu for Cad Lines but you can place any library item on your toolbar and move it right next to the line parent tool. That it the type of thing we have been asking for to be able to customize the way the software works and yes it can be done but there are always drawbacks such as not being able to add to the existing dropdown and having to cad block and then unblock the custom tool items.

You must know a surveyor Alan.

Whenever possible it is better to have control of the printing even if you do not make any money on it. Then you know. I have emailed PDF's to clients and sub contractors and then they show up to do the work and have downsized drawings or worst case scenario they have printed out your black dimensions on a black background and they just keep working without even having a clue that there are dimensions to follow. It has all been a little more difficult recently with covid and all.

Sorry I could not reproduce the mirrored view issue but I have an older system that may not be so prone to some of the glitches you guys are experiencing. I could not quite see all of the other views you had open but found the applicable elevations. I record with OBS. It is pretty robust software and can do quite a bit but the setup is not quite as friendly as some of the other options out there but quite easy to use once you get it dialed in.

Do you mean a new Layout FILE or a page? Because if I change page size or orientation in one Layout FILE, all the pages change not just one. And every FILE has its own page layout on page 0. You can actually have multiple Template pages but it is difficult to keep them organized if you create too many. So you can use layers and annotations or now referred to as default sets to set up multiple page 0's. It wont work exactly the way I think you are hoping but it can be done from one file and later collated with a 3rd party PDF editor. Just some paper size gymnastics as Robert has pointed out and only being able to print one set of paper sizes at a time for the applicable pages.

Tongue and groove decking for roof and ceiling with beams 4'OC
Chopsaw replied to Elliot's topic in General Q & A
That really makes me cringe to go to all that trouble just to cover it all up. Is there a good reason not to add the insulation on top of the T&G ? You could easily install all the lights and then put 2x6 on top and insulate. -

Seems like all that you need to do is delete the 2x6's but maybe I am missing some of the other details ? A few screen shots may help. -
That really is odd behaviour as far as I am concerned. It is nice to be able to change the wall thickness but it really should prompt you to create a new wall with a new name.
-
Where are you looking to track them down ? They should all be listed in your Wall Specification Wall Type Dropdown for each template you have.
-
Do you have something extra in your "Text Above Line:" of the note ? Floor number or Type or perhaps some other user macro ?
-
That is a little odd. It usually looks like that when it is not framed. You may need to post the plan file if you are in a hurry.

Hire someone who has done it before unless you have lots of time. Otherwise a lot of intricate modeling and material application and then make it a light fixture and add a light source.
