Brian is the Beta Coordinator, but I think you will have to go through tech support to get on the list. I was told it will be soon but was not given any date.

And you say that shows up the same way in 3D? All of those items look like they could potentially be symbols and somehow they have all defaulted to the same 2D Block which makes no sense at all and if you are getting 2D Blocks displayed in 3D then that is a real mystery. You may be able to fix this by opening each symbol and reassigning the proper 2D block but that does not explain how this happened.

Sure, If I only knew what you would like to see in the video? Some of each. Did you look over any plan files?

Charles, You have me totally confused now. Do you want the drywall applied directly to the concrete as Scott and Glenn drew it or do you want an insulated 2" interior wall as you drew it with a custom wall type? Or rather how do you need to illustrate the as-built. Just trying to help but don't understand what you are saying.
-
Ok now I understand what you need but am not sure if chief will do that for you or not. Pony wall would be my first logical choice but if that is not working you may have to manually add the three plates to the Wall Detail after you let Chief frame it. This is not too difficult as it is just basic cad work to copy a top plate and duplicate it at the right height. Cut your studs and rejoin to new plates. There may be a way to add an extra floor and delete the floor framing and baseboard of the extra floor an then also delete the ceiling of the existing floor level but I can't quite get it to frame properly yet. I have the correct number of plates but some strange gap that is not working. Do you care to share your plan file? Yes I believe it can be done that way. And will give you more control of you Construction Drawings.

Sure, Open your Schedule and go to the Text Style tab and Use existing Layer or edit the layer or make a new layer or Custom for just one Schedule. Have Fun. One other tip that might be helpful if you need to squeeze a schedule in somewhere tight is to Shift select it and Cad block then resize from corner of cad block then unblock. This is a lot easier than trying to come up with just the right fraction for text size.

Sounds like the pony wall may not be necessary and you need to add a second floor. Pony walls are used when there is a change of structure within the same floor. So you would have 8' existing wall and new knee wall to get to 10' for a 1 1/2 story addition. Normally there would be a floor separating the walls? If that is what you are after then it should frame ok. If not post the plan and there are always plenty of people willing to help.

Steve, I believe that I asked Antoine about this at some point and the short answer was Yes.

Charles, What I was saying was that you did draw the CMU pony wall properly under the circumstances with an insulated separation between the concrete and drywall, as in your original custom pony wall definition. Assuming that even in Hawaii you can get condensation issues on concrete.
-
Glenn, I thought it was important to use the insulated CMU wall that Charles built as we would never put drywall directly on CMU or concrete in Canada. I edited the footing in the Auto Detail but was left with a shadow. Did you mask or what is the trick that I missed.
-
Glenn, I fixed the drywall situation but not auto. How did you eliminate the upper monoslab footing on top of the CMU wall?

Not ideal but a possible option depending on what is new and what exists? Roof Question Choped.plan

Charles, I am no monoslab expert but take a look at this and see if you can work with it. Almost resembles your sketch. Split Level Choped.plan

Open the problem wall and go to the Materials tab, check the Exterior Wall Surface to see if it says Default:...... if not select it and then hit the Select Material... tab and at the bottom left select Use default material and that should reset things so that you can then say ok and ok to close, reopen and select your custom material. If that does not work you might want to post the plan file.

Try again to post some screen shots or the plan file so someone can help. .jpg or .png files work well for the forum.

Hi There, Nice to see someone taking such a keen interest in Chief's video making abilities. I just did a quick search on the forum and it looks like this subject has not been properly covered. I just upgraded to the latest version of Xvid ( 1.3.4.) and there do not seem to be any new functions or capabilities as it applies to CA recordings. So these adjustments from the default settings give me a 720p quality .avi video file that seems to be compatible with most Apple and PC computer systems as well as android and iphone. This can also be uploaded to YouTube. When using Xvid the Compression feature in CA Walkthrough Options seems to be disabled and I usually use a frame rate of 30 FPS for final renderings as more just makes the file larger. If anyone has been able to get a 1080p quality video from Xvid please post settings as I have not seen any CA produced walkthroughs with higher than 720p. There is a Xvid HD 1080 setting but it does not seem to work for me with CA. Also just seem to have lost the ability to play .avi files with Windows 10 Movies & TV player as well as Photos, so if anyone has recently had to deal with that, I am not sure what may have gone wrong. Edit, Reboot fixed it.
-
Edit> Default Settings> General Camera> General tab> Field of View: You will get screen resolution but quality can be improved by increasing the Frames Per Second: and reducing the Compression: when recording. If you are using the Xvid codec there are some settings there that can be tweaked if you know what you are doing.

Funny that we both landed on the same website. Let me know if you need some help converting to a material. I checked some of you other posts, quite a project you are into.
-
You will need to look at your Character Height of your Default text Style. Mine is set to 6" which prints at 1/8" for 1/4" scale.
-
Do you have a photo or sketch of what you are looking for? If it is not too complicated or if it repeats maybe it could be drawn in Chief. This is a quick and dirty transparent image clipped from the web and quickly edited then imported as material and applied to a psolid. Will this work or are you looking for more?

Ok then, this has taken a while but I have finally found a practical workaround. CA says that this could potentially be fixed for the release of X9 but until then and for those of you that are using older versions. The problem being that CA seems to have only provided for one camera attachment point to a set of stairs. Once I figured this out the solution was easy..... provide a second set of stairs. So because two staircases do not always want to occupy the same space the second copy must be placed on a separate layer. Select the stairs and use the "Copy and Paste in Place" tool and then go directly to "Open Object" and create a new layer. Run your camera path the first direction and then switch layer sets to go the other way. I will post the CA Modern Bungalow Plan that I used for testing and also a rough proof of concept video that I made for tech support and now for you. Please excuse the missing textures and various artifacts of this old X5 CA sample plan. Hoping this will help people who want to do a walkthrough video that documents the complete structure and also those who have not yet taken up video editing and need to do a single take recording. I have presented several simple videos of similar quality to clients and they are always quite pleased and excited needing to watch over and over again then show their friends. You have likely lost some object off to never never land beyond the perimeter of your drawing space. If you get the same behavior from opening a perspective overview camera then you need to go to plan view close other camera views and look for some object around the perimeter which can sometimes be quite challenging. One tool that I find useful is the "Fill Window" tool [F6] or select all [CTRL +A] that will include everything in the plan including your mystery object and likely will make your floor plan appear as a "pinpoint". Take a careful look around the perimeter of you screen or corner of selection box for "select all". If this does not work start turning off layers one at a time and see if this changes the view when using the "Fill Window" tool. This may isolate the item to one particular layer. Also before you waste too much time looking check another plan or a new test plan that you are confident is clean to see if the issue is plan specific.

Question #1 Make your landing the Back Group. And yes I believe that any item placed on stairs or landings will need a manually entered elevation. Question #2 Not sure I understand exactly which wall you mean as your description does not seem to be the same as picture. C is an exterior wall in your sample plan and does not appear to block the view of the landing from above? You can alter a wall from it's default height by shortening it in a 3D view or the stair landing will terminate an interior wall that is under it. Other than that I am not sure what you are after exactly. Also Home Designer Questions are normally posted in the Home Talk Forum.

Explode the block when placed in you plan.
