  1. Yes there is a complete Reference Display Set just pull it up and you can make all of those custom adjustments. Have fun Access under Active Layer Display Options or Tools>Reference Floors>Change Floor/Reference where you can select or define multiple custom layer sets.
  2. This is a little off topic for doors but should be all the same theory for the stretch plane aspect of Railing panels. I have tried not having a stretch plane with some very strange results and also placed a stretch plane at the mid point of the width ( X ) with even more unpredictable results. I am using a railing with a central glass panel and balusters at each end spaced for code compliance, but variable spans between newels. Is there a simple way to make this work? It seems silly to make a symbol when it will not follow protocol. I went back to the bare symbol and it behaves correctly with a x=0 stretch plane but then when placed into a railing things seem to go wrong. Made a fresh test plan in X8 and it all seemed to work fine so went back to my own plan to try again and there must be some real programming issues when it takes 5 or 6 tries to change a library file before it will stick. Then still not behave predictably. Ugh....
  3. Yes the Chief tricked you, Adjust Material Tool ( Teapot ) really only works for creating and adjusting materials. So give a new name when creating or take another approach and open wall and go to Materials tab and select Exterior Surface and then Select Material. Then in Plan Materials you have options to Copy with new name and then Add to Library for use in other plans. Have a Happy 100th and no more new guy ok. Chopsaw
  4. This is a old thread but still a valid solution as this has not been updated yet. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/9427-plot-plan-dimensions/
  5. Well that was an adventure. Not so sure it worked out the way Robert suggested but I now have lots more suggestions for tech support.
  6. That was quick. Thanks Robert I will give that a try, seems promising. Thanks.
  7. Has anyone ever found a solution to this problem as I have tried to place a room divider to clean up the joint in the decking but it instantly blows off my mitered stairs.
  8. You might also try a room divider along the non attachment points as I seem to remember Michael doing a video on that to help sort out a railing issue.
  9. Only used for vector rendering I believe so not sure what is going on when you say " render quality/performance has drastically improved" maybe you could show a before and after so we understand. You can also in addition to what Robert said use the "Set Using Texture" tool under the Texture tab to automatically set the Material colour with an average generated from your texture file which usually works quit well.
  10. That setting provides your Vector material colour for anything that is displayed in Vector view, elevations etc. Don't forget to press F1 from the DBX if in doubt.
  11. Look in Plan Defaults>Camera>General Camera>Orthographic View Options>deselect "Show Shadows" and or Perspective View. Other Options are the Toggle Shadows Tool or what I like for X8 is to go to Plan Defaults>Camera>Generic Sun> select "Sun Follows Camera". Funny that Final View and Final View With Shadows are not even part of the default X8 tool bar.
  12. Yes Polyline solids are likely the simplest way to draw these, just draw and configure in floor plan and set elevation and thickness with DBX, apply materials and you are done.
  13. Working on a plan in X8 that I started in X7 and tried to make a revised material by saving a transparent PNG file from an elevation view. This is no problem in X7 but seems to be impossible in X8 and I can only seem to be able to create a transparent PNG file from a plan view. Is this a known bug? Has anyone noticed this behaviour or have anything to add before I send this in to tech on Monday. Thanks, Chopsaw
  14. Scott, You covered this in the last workshop but I think Gene has the right idea and pony walls need to have their own independent layers. Hoping Scott Harris has made some progress in getting this revision into the software.
  15. Has anyone tried a 21:9 ultrawide? For someone with only one monitor this seems like it could be a sweet solution. You could have a split screen or always keep your Active Layer Display Options and Library Open with all that extra real estate. LG has one and others have them to, check this out here : http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34UM58-P-ultrawide-monitor What do you think?
  16. Bob, I have a 24" main screen flanked by two 24" monitors set to portrait orientation so I can set up as many as 4 live views or use one screen for referencing e-mails or sketches etc. All three are 1920 x 1080 but my next upgrade I would like a 27" 4K for my work screen as I would like a little more room but resolution is most important for me unless you want to get a great big monitor so you look like a bobble head on web cam.
  17. Mike, If I have time I will try to make up a better illustration, as with the library textures I think it is possible to achieve the level of quality you require with my original technique. The only reason that it does not look so great in the attachment above is that the material was a 96dpi screen capture and I did not take the time to refine the material. If you would like me to try a mock up on your plan please let me know.
  18. Here is another interesting twist on the topic that I just read, check it out: https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/index.php?/topic/8603-cad-block-template-creating-a-detail-plan-database/
  19. I did one of these a while back and tried to make my own brick material but apparently there are some in the Mohawk library now according to this CA Tutorial : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00797/creating-a-soldier-course.html Mike, if this looks acceptable to you I just used a screen shot of a brick from my plan. John, I started with a broken arch top window to get the correct wall opening and then put in a small polyline solid filler piece to square it up. I don't know why CA does not have this window type as it seems to be quite common and the houses of that era will likely remain with us for a long time since they were built so well.
  20. Why not just import as PDF or do that and trace over and put in library.
  21. Does anyone remember what the maximum file size is for tech support as I think it tells you only after you have uploaded your file and I have forgotten. I think last time I overloaded it and lost everything and don't want to do that again. I have a 38MB zip file to send in and suspect this will not work? Is it possibly 25MB? Well I gambled and it seems to be more than 40MB and not the same as the Forum.
  22. I would have to check to confirm but I think you have to assign the layer before blocking and then it remembers when un blocked.
  23. There is one other thing that you may have missed in letting the railing be the railing and the wall be the wall. Define and display the railing at your specified size after you Deselect automatic width.
  24. Scott, This would be a great workshop because I think there are a lot of users that don't understand this. I'm in. SDS, I think you can create the results you are looking for with the auto decking features by setting up a single layer railing wall type that is 12" in your case. The outer line is created by the main layer of the wall but still not sure where the inner wall line goes.
