One test that I did was to turn on the lights inside the room of the effected doorway and it seemed to work and then it did not and I never really figured out why. Possibly worth another try. Let us know if you are able to produce any results without having to shut off shadows altogether.

That should save you some time ! And now the mirror is much larger. Giving your video card some exercise.

You will also have to make sure that Reflections are selected in General Camera Defaults or turn them on for the camera you are using.

Thanks Rene, When you have some time could you provide a link to a good tutorial or give a few more details on how you do it with Chief and Acrobat Pro. I saw a great one of these a while back and have wondered how it was done for a long time. The more people that are using this the more attention it will get from the chief. Good place to also put a link back to your suggestion.

I do a lot of dark gray-black, green, and blue semi transparent stained wood grain sidings. And also like to provide colour elevation views with my drawings. Problem being that the "Blend with Texture" tint colour is usually much darker than the resulting semi-transparent view. This makes my vector "Plot Lines with Colour Fill" elevations and sections print inacurately like a great big ink smudge. Sure it would be easier to just do plot line drawings but is there a way other than creating a whole new texture for every custom siding colour to have an independent vector material colour ?

I see that you are new to the forum but it is obvious you have valuable background knowledge. Please be sure to post this in Suggestions and or send it in to tech support. I also use a completely different set of camera presets for walkthroughs so this is the only practical solution. You can roam with the 3D view but the image quality is not as good as standard view and certainly a long way from what Unreal is doing.

I believe that work continues on this problem but this is where we are at currently : It would not hurt to send your thoughts in as a suggestion as we are all waiting for improvements to this function.

Actually Newell, I think you just discovered a new X10 Bug. PDF's can be reflected vertically but not horizontally and even if you rotate the PDF before importing it just seems to assume that you would never want to destroy the text or something. Somehow it knows even if you try to trick it. But why ? If you don't like it you could just hit undo or reflect back the other way. Please send this in to tech support and let us know how it goes. In the mean time you can use Chief to import the PDF and then export to PNG and re-import again so you can reflect it as an image. There always seems to be a way. Just not always an easy one.

I think I can do that for you if you would like to post the pdf or send it to me. It will mess up the text though. Also I can convert to .png that will import better if you like. Not the drawings, just the pdf conversion.

Make each row exactly 8" or adjust the material to suit your size in the Texture tab of Define Material then adjust Offset as necessary. Looks good, Nice Job.

That or just a Terrain Break Line if you have issues hiding the wall.

If you need to accurately model the step back and the curves, maybe a spline distribution path would be the way to go. A little demanding on you computer but it looks like yours is up to the challenge.

Right click on symbol in User library and Export Library ( Item ) then post .calibz file. Putting the symbol in you User Library is a little more complicated but will allow you to drop it into a new plan with just a few clicks.

The best way is to let us know what software you are using and post the plan file but you may have a Wall Covering set to display without knowing it. Likely the refrigerator is on the Fixtures Interior layer that is not turned on in Camera View.

I think your answer will be No this is not advisable. It would be an interesting exercise to see how far you could get but there are a lot of tools in Chief that are just not designed for this purpose. Importing the model should not be a problem and creating elevations should work fine but you will run into issues after that. You could make some pretty Top View Orthographics with the cross section slider but they would just be pictures and dimensions and scale would be a challenge. Try importing the DWG and trace over it so you can use the program to it's full potential. You may have to treat the time you spent on the Sketchup model as though you are dealing with a client that just provided you with a great amount of detail on exactly what they want in 3D.

Austin, I gave Ray's Idea a try and no luck with the material regions but if you create and extra file you could do a pretty good job of a illustration with the manual roof planes and switching the roofing material and then just add a molding for the seams. Oh and find a better material than the one Chief provides.

Your Reduced Gable truss will likely have to be manually drawn with p-solids in elevation view, that can be converted to solids and exploded if necessary for material application for 3D rendering of wood grain patterns, or just left as p-solids for Construction Drawings. The beams sitting on the rafters at mid span will need to be p-solids or you can edit a lookout to fill that purpose in a roof layer set to opening no material or insulation air gap. Auto Roof framing should give you the rafters you need. Have a go at it and post your plan file if you get stuck.

Yes that is a major issue. Try attaching the fence to a room divider that joins it at 90 deg. and then use your arrow keys to carefully inch it into position.

Apparently the 25MB limit to file size has been lifted or changed with the latest forum update. Not sure exactly what it is but quite possible a plan file of that size could be zipped and uploaded now. If not please let us know what tech has to say.

I believe you will find that defining the DPI will have the effect you are expecting if you set the width & height of the pic in inches. If the width and height is in pix then the total number of pixels is not affected, just the physical print size. Thank you so much Graham, I have been struggling with this for years without any help from tech support. It is still a little unintuitive but it seem that it must have been fixed at some point without me being aware. Just have to find out what that warning about the 200 MB limit is all about for all but .bmp and if it is wise to override or not.

The Material Region needs to be draw on the elevation level that you want it to appear on in plan view. If it covers more than one level you may be able to make a copy to move it to another level in plan view. Not sure why it would not show in plan view if the layer is turned on. Are you using the new Saved Plan Views ? Have you updated to v. 20.2.1.1

Yes there are two schools of thought on this topic and it seems like about a 60/40 split but I am not sure which way it leans. Really just depends on your needs. Nice to have it live and also sometimes beneficial to show terrain features in combination with some cad.

Did you draw your plot in Plan View or a Cad detail ? Cad detail is just cad, but in plan view you can use all the terrain features and the floorplan that you have already drawn.
