  1. This project is sold and done BUT I had a strange thing happen while printing to PDF. You can see in layout preview that floor joists are correct and in the open cross section they are correct. When I print to PDF you the floor joists are not correct in either cross sections. Both files are attached for anyone interested. I tried printing Chief PDF and PDF-Xchange both have same result. 2. I'm very used to making my own posts out of polys. This is because of all the pole structures I do in Chief,,,,,,, therefore I do same with decks with complicated load bearing. Posts in library are symbols ( place them as such ) and can be moved very nicely and can be put on a custom layer. Get away from wanting it all automatic or 1 button and done,,,,,,,,, sometimes its faster too.
  3. No, you can do things manually to get that design. I do many structures with post & purlins and truss and top cord purlins as you want to do.
  4. You can apply tile to walls and floor in the room dbx.
  5. Highlite schedule, open dbx, select text and modify
  6. This was drawn in version X so it's old. I will share file if it helps.
  7. I and others use "PDF Exchange" and in the file pull down menu is an option called "save as optimized" and it reduces file size nicely and still in color. 22mb reduced to 3mb was last one I "optimized".
  8. Got it and it worked. Thanks Eric
  9. Yes that is grayed out and no I'm in plan view. 3d viewer downloaded fine and works fine. Of course I can have customer install viewer and send them file and all is fine. BUT I like things to work correctly.
  10. Joey has good advice. Be ready for some very tedious work if you want it perfect.
  11. Registered with Chief, downloaded viewer and re-booted computer and when I go to export the "export chief 3d view" is not highlighted and therefore not working. What am I not doing? SSA current
  12. PDF Exchange is a great tool too!
  13. Post the plan so we can we can play in the sandbox too.
  14. Thank you Dermot, spot on advice.
  15. I just started a new plan and it does the same thing, so I either screwed up or bug. Did you put default window in and then change height? You can see what happens to my plans. Thanks
  16. Open plan put default window in and then adjust height in window dbx, it looses its color definition on all walls except front. Yes I re-booted. Saginaw Project 2.plan
  17. dshall deserves a point for this one, he nailed it and I deal with this OFTEN.
  18. Go to default settings-layer sets and adjust your views there, I have had to add addition layer sets on a couple of projects. It was the quickest solution to problem
  19. Last one I did I put 1/12 roof below deck and put a rubber roof on it. Obviously thought has to be put into load support, roof repairs some day ect........
  20. No program will ever be a "do it all". This is the same complaint for decades BUT WE STILL USE CHIEF!!!!! What does that mean,,,,,,,,,,, Chief is the best at what we do or we would be using something else.
  21. 3d all the way, I have library of several grid layouts, easy to modify and tiles have been around for a while. I have a specific layer set for RCP.
  22. WARNING!!!! Nothing is easy and all projects require work. No one click and done,,,,,,,, with any CAD program!!!
