X14 and new PC build update and reat time ray tracing review.
Kbird1 replied to VisualDandD's topic in General Q & A
Unfortunately this is also my current feelings on Chief , I had high hopes for RTRT after using X12 and how good things were looking. ConDocs just seem like a lot of work in CA and I think they have forgotten who is using the Program on a daily basis ... to make a living.... The new 3D engine is even causing/having Issues for some of us doing Condocs since even elevations are "really 3D cameras" i.e. Wall Surface Triangles lines showing in Layout. M. -
This is a thread I started a while back and is fairly easy with even Windows Free Paint Program.....

Well that's interesting ...... and a 1st around here , at least for me...... Doesn't the saying go something like "Imitation is the highest form of flattery" ....... thanks Josh ! Mick.

Comments like that will win you a lot of friends around here.... And had we had all the information to begin with someone would of told you how to do it much easier in Chief..... KB.

Chief's Tray Ceilings can be buggy especially in rooms like this or where Room Dividers are used so sometimes the tried and true methods work better ...ie a Polyline Solid with a Hole in it.... Chief's 2016 KB Article PDF :Ceiling_Creating-a-trey-or-coffered-ceiling-using-polyline-solids.pdf -
Unless it has changed recently , the PDF Module of Chief is the only Part of Chief done by a 3rd Party and they seem to need some time after Beta is released each year to get their PDF API working properly with the Latest Version. M.

My List of available Libraries as of May 5th 2022 Here or in the 1st Post......... PDF: see latest in next post......... -
You can import AutoCAD etc Patterns into Chief , there is even a 3rd party Program ( HatchKit ) that generates Patterns that Chief can use but Chief's Insulation Box is a "special fill" apparently , so we can't use it other Ways. Mick.

Nothing like that I am aware of , though Chief does have ove 400 add-on Libraries now , but you might find something on 3D warehouse ( Trimble) you can import into Chief. Looks like you are new , so please add your Forum Signature so we know which Version of Chief Premier you are using....

Broken or disconnected a Wall somehow.... looks like you are new here so please do you fourm signature so we know which version of Chief Premier you are using....

Hi , you don't need to draw anything , Chief's materials are Images (Textures) but it appears as if Corten 7.2 is just Ribbed Metal Roofing which Chief has in the Core Library >Material>Sheetmetal>Ribbed , which can likely be altered/colored as needed. https://www.cortenroofing.com/corten-western-rib-7-2-siding-panel-a606-4-weathering-steel.html I appears you are new here so please do your signature so we know which version of Chief Premier you are using, thanks. https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/?tab=comments#comment-155662

Like others I suspect you don't have ALL the correct Info for the existing build and Mark may well be correct , as I think you are working backwards , since the Ceiling height MUST be correct , so something else is up.... M.

X13 or X14? some guesses..... Imported a PDF or two? Accidental turned on Framing Labels Add a Framing Schedule Turned on all AutoBuild Framing (Though for me this is okay but have seen recent reports of slowdowns esp. in X14) Added a Fill that is generating lots and lots of CAD LINES and am sure Others will add a few more..... Mick.

Left Auto build do your Roof Planes, (uncheck Roof over the leanto area temporarily) the current planes are reporting the Top Plate height as 91 1/2" and the Ceiling is at 97 1/8" Current Auto Roof

Make a new WallType with 4x4 Studs instead of 2x4 Studs...... In X5 you might also need to make a new "Framing" Material with the correct stud spacing and size too. This old post might help too ?

3D Solid (elevation) Area into Material Schedule
Kbird1 replied to buzzsaw204's topic in General Q & A
I thought this was possible now in X14 but perhaps not? In which case Wall Material Regions could be used instead if you need a Schedule and a Materials list. M. -
Are you talking about the Preferences Setting for minimum Line Weight or you set the line Weight to 1? Line Weights are generally controlled by the Layer they are on.....

X13 ---- 23.4.1.8 Update out today - PDF Attached.
Kbird1 replied to Kbird1's topic in General Q & A
Glad to help..... most of my Clients won't use a beta Version, some as still on X12 due to X13 Issues , so my fingers are crossed that this combined with the latest Nvidia Drivers cure a few of my ( and their ) issues. M. -
3D Solid (elevation) Area into Material Schedule
Kbird1 replied to buzzsaw204's topic in General Q & A
From your pics, you may need to redefine the Material as AREA not Linear AND you need to Edit the Materials in the Components Tab of the Solid * Warning X14 just Hung (crashed) when I changed it to AREA here........ okay 4 1/2 mins later Chief allowed me back in...... grrrrr It seems Chief , even with Area specified ( above) is using depth X width for the area calculation .... not Height (thickness for a solid) x width Update..... The Surface area is being calculated correctly so , you can use you own macro in the Count row of the Component Tab to get what you need currently though this shouldn't be need (owner.surface_area/2).round(0) for larger areas this is better (owner.surface_area.floor/2).floor -
