  1. I've had PDF2CAD for a few years now and it does work when needed, the caveat is that it only works on TRUE PDFs, (Vector based) many people scan their PDFs on auto and inevitably the scanner creates an Image ( think pixels) which is then "printed" to PDF . How to tell? --- single click a PDF and if it goes Blue, it is Image based, these can't be seen by PDF2CAD. Below is there PDF on that... PDF - Raster or Vector.pdf Mick.
  2. Makes me wonder if previously, whichever HD product you used had it's dimensions also Set to 1" like the Snaps, instead of 1/8th or 1/16th, so previously any in-accuracy was not noticed in the Dims. when Drawing as 4' 3/8" would of rounded down to 4' for example. 3. It does seem tough to find a Nvidia card in a 2n1 these Days , most have gone to the Intel Xe or Iris , and it looks like the HP linked above maybe one of the better Options ( on Paper ) esp. if you can wait for the a Sale , which may be for Labor Day? M.
  4. Well if you already have a Lenovo and like I am surprised to didn't look there 1st ? or maybe you did? Mick.
  5. Personally I would not consider the 3050 even though it will run chief in RTRT mode , it is also of the 12gen series of CPUs , and 13th gen is out and 14th gen comes in Oct. which is why I think there will be good sales over the next 2 months on laptops etc with older chips. One example is Lenovo (Direct Online) is already Posting Labor Day Sales and there are some interesting Laptops, (legion 5 and 7 which a client of Mine recently purchased and is very happy) I'm just not sure about the 2n1 or touch capability as I was not looking at those lines, which I believe is their Yoga Line. M.
  6. One other Option is Canvas, if you have an iPad with Lidar ( newer models ) it has its limitations as well but the Canvas Measurement Report (CMR) can be useful on Smaller Projects ( I no longer recommend their Chief output as it is based on X12 only ) it's there PDF of all the Room, Window and Doors Sizes ( get Onsite dims to Confirm while there ) though you still need to make sure you get Ceiling Hgts, and any changes in Elevations, ie step ups/downs and at ALL Stairs ( no# of Risers and Tread Depths are important ). M.
  7. It's actually Home Designer 2024 .......... Did you ask over on HomeTalk too? https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/ I agree it appears from past Posts here on the Forum that it is a Driver Issue though it maybe a Hardware Issue if the Laptop is older, as Chief change the 3D Graphics Lighting Engine in X13/ HD2022 and many older computers have had Issues with it. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03167/mac-models-compatible-with-chief-architect-x15-and-home-designer-2024.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00516/sharing-a-plan-file-with-a-home-designer-user.html M.
  8. Hi M, Have you seen this KB Article on Lighting? https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00777/working-with-lighting.html Some Basic Tips on Lighting I use.......... At least for Me, CA's default settings are too low by about 50% for a well lit scene so..... In Rendering Techniques, in Your Template ( or make current plan into a template for future projects) Under Standard Set your Interior AND Daytime Ambient to 60% ( I set Night-time to 6% as well) Under PBR Automatic exposure in X15 is usually fine at .35 , but try .4 or even .45 in individual Cameras set the Brightness to 30 ........this is a start point for me and individal Scenes may need as high as 70% I also start my Daytime Backdrop intensity at 700 and set both Cap Live Samples and Denoise when Complete to On . Other Tips Try the Scene with Shadows OFF and compare .....ie is more "Life like" important or is seeing everything clearly more important? Turn Bloom OFF ( make things look "soft" ) Adjust Focal Distance for the Scene ...... to something Natural your eye would focus on 1m/3ft isn't enough most likely - it's too close to the camera Mick. Basic Tips on Lighting in CA.pdf
  9. Looks like it might do the job with the 4060 included, ( wait for a sale) not sure you'd want it as your "only" Chief Device though. Mick.
  10. I think the only one Chief has is in the Core Catalog, so I am surprised it isn't in the Home Designer Series too. Did you ask over on HomeTalk? https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/ Did you try 3Dwarehouse? or can't the Home Series Import Sketchup Files? M.
  11. this Legion Pro with a 4070 on the Lenovo Canada Site is $1950 on Sale ATM https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/p/laptops/legion-laptops/legion-pro-series/legion-pro-5i-gen-8-(16-inch-intel)/82wk000cus M.
  12. Are you sure it isn't just the same old Chief "Sticky Cursor Issue" , I still have it and was Helping a Client today , and they also had it ...... It just looks larger in Layout as it is showing at true scale in layout Mick.
  13. that is on NewEgg.com, she is in Canada , and the Price will be a lot different on NewEgg.ca if it even available. The other is in Canada but there are only 3 in the whole country at that price , and you need to be local to the Store as Openbox can not be Shipped. M.
  14. did you check out the Lenovo Canada Website? the 8th gen Slim i7 with 4070 maybe an option depening on budget and configuration. https://www.lenovo.com/ca/en/configurator/cto/index.html?bundleId=82Y3CTO1WWCA1 M.
  15. Almost all Laptops allow for Ram and Hard-drive (NVME these days) Upgrades and Additions these days, on my Asus in my Sig. you simply undo the bottom and remove it. Open Box at BB? I didn't see that, FYI openbox models don't usually Ship, they are only available at the local store usually. The GB has good Thermals (important in all Laptops to avoid throttling of the CPU and GPU) but I have not researched (googled reviews) of the Asus. M.
  16. It shows as $2200 for me at BB , which makes the One I linked above at CC on Sale a better Deal......... for $2200 you can even get the 32GB Ram and still be under $2200 M.
  17. You are right , the only difference you see is where you can choose the Dollar type at the top...... and then to have to choose the option you want like the CPU,GPU,RAM and OS .
  18. going to your link the price shown it the lowest spec'd model and does not even include an operating system.... and is still a bit over the Bestbuy one...... The one I linked is On Sale , $300 off ....... M.
  19. It loads as $CDN for me but does not include Windows 11, the 32GB of Ram , the RTX 4070 etc etc M.
  20. I still think this is a great Option and if you have $2200 in the budget you can also get the extra Ram at the same time ( they may have a openbox, so check local store ) https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=710_4419&item_id=236109 Ram ( check openbox too) https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=24_311&item_id=227147 Mick
  21. Unfortunately Rene at the config. you mention it is well over $3200...... not the $2200 budget she now seems to have..... M.
  22. TIP: Always Close Chief each day at least once, or turn your computer off at night........ M.
  23. You need to read the Full Thread, from this point at least............ looks like the same Issue I had.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/39045-x15-catalog-update-error-catalog-could-not-be-found-on-the-server/?do=findComment&comment=295429 Mick.
  24. Chief Updated the CAD Blocks Library today, so we shouldn't be seeing any Errors now on updating Catalogues M.
  25. Yes Lower End AMD CPU I believe and about 33% slower than a 13700K M.
