  1. Not in Ed's case the A2000 is an RTX capable Workstation GPU........... https://www.nvidia.com/en-eu/design-visualization/rtx-a2000/ The down side is the need to go subscription these days..... * On topic Yes I agree, we should have had Sloped Slabs by now being they are a Code requirement everywhere for 10yrs? ..... M.
  2. Hi and welcome to the Forum It's always a good Idea to attach the Plan File to your post if possible, (14mb forum limit so zip if needed while chief is closed) otherwise we will be playing 20 questions due to the multitudes of Options and variables. It's also a good idea to add your version and hardware specs to your Forum Signature so you don't need to do it every time.... how to...... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/?tab=comments#comment-155662 Mick.
  3. I personally thought X12 was a good version and unless you plan to upgrade your Videocard as well you won't gain anything on the Rendering side of things as that requires a 2000,3000 or 4000 Series Nvidia card with RTX tech. which the 1000 series doesn't have. Also I assume you are on SSA ? I guess not since you are on X12....and as long as you don't let it lapse nothing will change, otherwise you will now need to switch to Chief's Subscription (only) Plan ( $2000/yr) which started back in Jan. if you weren't aware. In X15 the materials look opposite of your images above ? for some reason color is also off in this plan , something I don't do much myself..... I also didn't think that was a plan setting??? Not sure if this is X15 only or not? but Open the Material (Rainbow Icon) and on the Properties Tab you will see the Transparency setting ...currently 2% try 90-95% ( so it's seen in 3D) or even 100% Mick.
  4. Rob is correct, it has always been this way. If you really need them in 3D, it is not too hard to make a Symbol from some solids, so you don't need to place them individually. Mick.
  5. I don't believe so as in most places they can't be used for residential in Nth Amer. due to not meeting energy codes for many year now, though Ali. is still used in Commercial eg Store Fronts. So unfortunately, Users in Aust. / NZ in particular miss out though you could ask your local Supplier to become a Chief Catalogue Partner..... M.
  6. Thanks Carudo , some nice new models you shared this week * looks like the textures on 2530 are corrupt..... Chief should be employing your talents..... @Chief_Content Mick.
  7. try this setting in the Roof Plane DBX........... M.
  8. Just a note that Locking Walls in chief is not possible, all you are really doing with the Lock button ( in the ALDO/Display Options) is stopping the ability to select them in that view. Short Walls like this have always been a bit of a hassle in Chief unfortunately.... M.
  9. Another good method .......... But I guess we need to ask for a Sloped Ceiling Beam Tool that auto finds Ceiling Planes , as this is a common request theses days, so the extra work isn't required, I'd think they could "re-program" the Roof Beam Tool to find Ceiling Planes instead of the underside of the Roof Plane fairly easily? M.
  10. There are some perforated metal materials that can be used on your 3D Solid , not sure how well it will work or how it'd look though. You can also punch holes in that 3D Solid though and convert it to a symbol as well for future use. M.
  11. Ceiling and Floor Beams are only horizontal members as far as I am aware, Roof Beams and Rafter will both snap to the Roof Plane Pitch so not useful where you have scissor Trusses for example with 2 different pitches, so it's normally easiest to draw a Solid on the Gable End Wall in Elevation, copy reflect it to the other side and then multicopy across the Room in Vaulted Ceilings Areas. You can also make 2 extra materials rotated at the correct pitch for the 2 different sides of the Room to show "grain" if needed. M.
  12. The OP should know that those macros are not part of Chief and either need to be purchased of some Ruby skills are needed for programming them. I think 2020 can output to CNC too can't it? in regard to the cut lists, something Chief cannot do either. (yet?) M.
  13. Chief cannot do cut lists etc automatically either if needed ........... but macros may be workable? Several 2020 Users I talked to who switched over said the same thing.... Mick.
  14. The Area is for people seeking PAID Help for Issues so you might want to post over in the Q+A Forum. Mick.
  15. It sounds like Pella has not been paying the Annual Fee to Chief ($500), so we still have the 2018 (?) Catalogue, but perhaps you Rep can ask as I am not sure who's fault it is really https://www.chiefarchitect.com/partners/catalog-partner-program.html It appears there is an Update to the Library for X15 though..... do you have it? Mick.
  16. AFAIK Chief does not convert 2D CAD symbols to 3D symbols at all , so you will need to replace the current CAD blocks with the appropriate Elec. symbol Best to put questions over in the Q+A Forum too , more people will look at it there.... M.
  17. I guess there isn't an Electrician already onboard for the Project? here that would normally be done by them here when the pull the separation Elect. Permit after the BLD Permit is granted. M.
  18. Is your window separation in Defaults 0 ? if it is, have a play with the setting in the Window , under Options called Mullion Depth, it accepts both positive and negative numbers. You also need to adjust the Casing so it overlaps the Frame, ( per the real world) I can see it is set to 0 as well You should really put questions over in the Q+A Forum rather that in te Seeking forum which is for Paid Help.... Mick.
  19. Don't add a Roof, just a second Floor with walls ( CLG HGT) set to the railing height.......... the KnowledgeBase (KB) is always a good place to start........... KB Article Here : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00295/creating-a-flat-parapet-roof.html there is a Video now too: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1530/drawing-parapet-walls-with-a-flat-roof.html Mick.
  20. You really don't need either of those GPUs for Chief, not that I wouldn't mind either in my machine , so for a "work" only machine you could consider a model with a 4070 or even a 3070Ti to save some money, there are a number of people here even using 3060's with no problems. Intel is releasing New CPUs later this Month , 17th I think? , the 14th Gen "Refresh" models, that I plan to get myself after reading a few real world Reviews next month, so an option is to wait for one of those with a lesser GPU like the 4070 or 4080 to save some money, or even a lower spec GPU and swap the 3090 into it for yourself. However if budget is not an Issue ? M.
  21. Thanks Bob, this is not one I have run into or heard of here before, sounds like it maybe more common than I thought. Mick.
  22. Try HighShed/Gable insteadfor a Shed Roof , but I also suspect that your Railing Walls are not in line (by just a smidge maybe?) with the house Walls creating that situation. M.
  23. Would be good then to add the Solution to the thread so "all those guys still using it" who run into the same Issue can fix their Issue themselves in the future. M.
  24. Happy to Help , just seemed like you were doing things the "hard way" to me ..... I added the Plan file done in Chief's template to the Post above in case someone wants to look at it too, though I think most in the thread already know what/how it was done..
