Delete old versions of Chief/File Management
Kbird1 replied to BethVanDeusen's topic in General Q & A
You could add a 2TB or 4TB Drive for extra Storage......... but if you haven't already Check the Archive Folder under each Version you may find yo have dozens of GBs of Archived Files you know longer need, similarly for old Clients you may have many Plan File Revisions for each Client ....... Open the latest Layout/Plan File for each Client and do a Full Backup Zipfile, from Layout if there is one ( which will include the Plan) and then save just the ZipFile in the Client's Folder in case you should ever need it. ( Zipping compressing the Files and saves all materials in the Plan as well.) This may help if you're not familiar with the process, you just won't be sending them to another User . https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00987/using-the-backup-entire-plan-layout-tool-to-send-files-to-another-user.html M. -
While making a Custom Door Last week I also noticed the Issue with the Copy > Reflect Tool turning Polyline Solids into (un-editable) "Solids" , this is a big Issue as for symmetrical Objects I always used CAD Lines to "Reflect About" to save time and effort. I am not sure if the "prediction" Chief now shows on these type of Operations ( and Roof Planes etc) is part of the Point to Point Issue as I also see that in X15 and like in Eric's Video find I have to do a 2nd Pt. to Pt. to get it exactly into position. However In X15 it seems things can be "detected" even if their layer is Turned OFF eg Dimensions do it all the Time, so whether in the Video it is still "snapping to the Grid(s) even with them disabled I am not sure , but these "glitches are annoying and ( and time wasting = $) so seems like a Bug to me. @ColePOC Chief only builds the 1st floor Framing once the 1st Floor forms a Room ie all Exterior walls are Drawn and that framing only shows on the Foundation Level (0) ie everything below 0" (Top of Subfloor) shows on the Level below. This may help you, one of my Tipsheets ...... MHD CA Drawing Order Cheat Sheet.pdf *Forum Tip ...you can Tag someone using the @ and then their Forum Username with no space eg @ForumUsername it should go green if done right when you hit enter. Perhaps try Deleting the Offending Catalogs and reloading them as there is (was?) a known Issue with the new Library System , not recognizing some older Catalogs properly, I had to do this back in May to sort out my Library. I believe my Issue was likely caused by me renaming the Libraries as I downloaded them originally with a more descriptive name than Chief gives them, so I no longer do that. You have Built the 1st Floor right? and didn't start with the Foundation like you would in the Real world correct? * sorry I see this is only your 2nd post here , so not sure where you are at Experience wise with Chief? It's also Helpful to have your Forum SIG. done with Version and Hardware ( see mine or Others)as it helps responders with the correct answers to some questions, there is a "how" to here : https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/?tab=comments#comment-155662 M.

Can't get rid of 1/16" added to dimension trouble
Kbird1 replied to tsoftwerks's topic in General Q & A
So you agree then ? .nice explanation of the System Chief Uses , The MODs should make your post a "Sticky" in the Tips Forum...... M. -
Ok, that is not a a 3/4" Round Over , I thought you meant something like this : or That is a Newel Post (P1) I think and to keep that Chamfer/routed edge you would need stretch planes but I don't think Chief Allows Stretch Planes in Rotated objects, in which case it will stretch out the "detail" and it won't look good. Can't get rid of 1/16" added to dimension trouble
Kbird1 replied to tsoftwerks's topic in General Q & A
This is true and can cause Z-fighting in Materials particularly in Over views...... I think for the drawing to NOT be on the Grid in the 1st place may indicate possibly the OP has Snaps turned OFF in their Plan . M. -
make it out of (3) solids and then use the Union Tool to merge them together.... and then make it into a Symbol for Future use... (set stretch Planes so the 3" part is always 3") ie (2) pcs 4x4 square for the ends and the middle part filleted at 3/4" rad. 90" long for a 96" / 8' Beam M.

Do a save as of your plan and delete everything from the plan except this one room you do have a Roof on correct and a foundation under the home? this can effect lighting in PBR Views..... The Material on the Upper wall appears transparent to me , not "glaring" ? it also appears as if you have Hand Drawn lines turned on in PBR, try setting the technique options to all 0 except the 1st one try 0.5 or 0.25 for it. and also try it witht he Lines turned off. Not sure if this is GPU related but you state it's always happened in Chief, so please update your Signature with the Graphics Card particulars ( See the Render Tab> videocard Status in Preferences) and also any of the other info if outdated ie Win10 1803? really? drywall showing on exterior railing framing
Kbird1 replied to Larry_Sweeney's topic in General Q & A
The simple fix is likely to change the Walltypes of them all to the Deck/Fence Walltype, which the Straight Deck Railing Tool uses automatically ( and does not include Drywall) like the Straight (interior) Railing Tool....... and use the Deck tools for deck going forward.... * One other possibility is that your Deck Room is not specified as a deck , that can make the Drywall show too... Straight Deck Railing......... vs Straight (interior) railing M. -
There is a known Issue with the Library when updating if the new X15 Library System can't identify the currently loaded Libraries properly, for example you changed the name of the downloaded library, it will still install , but as I found out the new online catalogue doesn't recognize the Library properly later. I had that issue back in May and had to Clean my library out of any Libraries it didn't recognize though I an not sure if this is related but this is the Thread from back in May, read down from the linked post below.... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/39045-x15-catalog-update-error-catalog-could-not-be-found-on-the-server/?do=findComment&comment=295358 What happens if you just do an entire Library Update ? any error messages? Mick

I have actually never seen this happen, which symbol is this , or it is all of them? if so post a simple 20'x20' box house showing the Issue , so we can all have a "play" and try and figure it out , maybe a Template setting or ? as I haven't seen a Toilet glow like you put a rope light behind it M.

Hi, yes I regularly create symbols, Plan Sets and Train Others in Chief, eg. Builder, Designers and Architects.... I'll PM you my email so check the envelope icon top right, next to the Bell icon. Mick. MHDesign.

Look nice , happy to see it worked for you..... I actual made the different parts as different materials , so you can change the Hearth or Black Rim to a charcoal if needed , as well as the main Fireplace portion to for example to match your Stucco walls. * You should Open your 1st post perhaps and add the Kiva Southwest to the topic name rather than Spanish , so other can find this topic and perhaps add the Kiva as a Tag as well as bumblebee, to help other Users. M.

Hi, I figured since I was 1/2 way there I'd finish this Kiva Style fireplace and post the Symbol , just remember when resizing it to keep the width and depth equal so it remains a semi-circle. let me know if something doesn't work and I'll have a play with it. Mick. Symbol : MHD_Kiva Style Fire Place 9'.calibz

I am not sure Chief calls it a Boolean Operation (except in error messages) as far as Videos and KB Articles, that may come from Autocad or Sketchup ? ( Gene uses it a lot ) but Chief does have a few short Videos on what it calls "Subtracting Polylines" like this one : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/305/subtracting-polylines-that-overlap.html?playlist=98 or https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/playlists/98/moldings-primitives-3d-cad.html Above is the full playlist for Moldings, Primitives, and "3D" CAD ...... it's more you need to play with it and learn by doing unfortunately but I think most will tell you Chief is not a great tool for "modelling" objects with as it not very intuitive....so lots of trial and error even for seasoned Users.... but once done and then turned into a Symbol things work fairly easily..... this Kiva Fireplace is a real doosie though as Chief does not like curved objects at all and is sssssslllllooooowwwwww (that's very slow ) M.
-
I believe Gene is referring to using Solids and the Subtraction, Merge and Union Tools , but it appears in his Plan he has explode the Solid as all the Solid's faces are Separate. tilted cylinder ( in elevation view ) solid block for subtraction ( to "cut" the cylinder) Select Cylinder > Click Subtraction Icon > Click shaped block do not retain Originals at prompt Then lay a cylinder down to cut the fireplace hole and subtract it the same way . Importing libraries into User Catalog taking forever
Kbird1 replied to kwhitt's topic in General Q & A
Over the network works for me, of course if scheduled they both need to be turned on , it work with more than one computer as well as I use Syncback to copy to another old workstation as well as a backup and to an Ext. USB Drive as well. M. -
What software are you using ? and what Dimension Default? perhaps it's not set to snap to "countertops" M.
