What I'm doing wrong? (Rope lighting, GPU raytrace)
Kbird1 replied to KirillP's topic in General Q & A
If you have stripped it as far as the pic above seems to indicate, the Lighting in PBR won't work as expected as the building is no longer complete without rooms etc so you may need to provide a link to OneDrive or Google Drive etc instead. * I took a quick look and it is pretty badly 'broken' M. -
Ok, that explains it , Client should be happy with the way it is looking M.
-
Looking good, is the lighting under the columns and at bottom of wall deliberate? as it almost looks like PBR light bleed to me , which can usually be cured with a Foundation and Roof on a project if not already there. M.

For sure PS can fail, it why Michael was joking above his failed in Nov. ? an dit took Dell a month to get a new one installed for Him so he bought a Laptop. If the Paste (TIM - Thermal Interface Material) has never been re-applied it likely needs redoing ( dries out/hardens) if not done when they replaced the AIO Water colling , though I am not sure how they changed the Cooler without redoing the TIM too, as the Pumphead/AIO (All In One Cooler) is is one piece . Not what I thought at all, but I wondered if you meant the PDF or another Post and so I wondered if when I cut the PDF down from a 2 page PDF to 1 page, if had removed too much Info or if something wasn't Clear as it is one of my Standard Handouts. I guess saying the Perimeter Walls to final is too ambiguous or something? I guess "Exterior Walls Only" would be better? ( roofs won't build till then anyway , you need an enclosed Room ). Mick.
-
I don't think anyone said to go all the way to final design did they? or did I skip over that post? I know from personal experience that watching the Roofs build early on Auto freaks many People out especially New Users and makes them think they are done something wrong, so I suggest do that after the 1st Auto Build is done, once the Exterior Walls are enclosed, as it also lets you set walls as Gables for example that you missed the RWD on, Decks or Porches that need to be covered etc and forgotten about, but each to His own obviously. ( experience teaches you not to worry about the 3D so much ) M.

Yes you generally need to turn the Sun way down from the Default 100,000 Luumens used in STD Views to a more sedate 3000-7000 as chief Auto Balances it with other lighting especially on Interiors. M.
-
In Defaults these are mine........... PBR: STD :
-
This is best Practice , as noted in the Other Thread it will only get you 65-85% of the way there in my experience but especially being New To Chief it's get you started with corrects baseline positions etc. I'd also suggest looking at the Tuts. on Manual Dormers , you never use Auto Dormers again, I haven't in years. Per Gene...This might help being New as well..... Basic Drawing Order PDF : _MHD CA Drawing Order Cheat Sheet.pdf Mick.

Unfortunately I see this all the Time in the real world, so good you caught it now Adjust the Deck Wall Width to the Column Base width ( or slightly wider ) and the Columns will sit on the deck as Chief auto centers them on the Wall. * this will shift the Auto beam generated by the Wall too, which may not be desirable though? M.

If you have only got 4 walls in the plan as yet ? simply restart the Plan in a Metric Template if that is what you want , it appears you are just displaying the secondary Dims and they are set to metric instead in an Imperial Plan, Chief comes with both. If you always work in Metric switch the Template used for New Plans in Preferences to the Metric Template so this doesn't happen again. M.

Create multiple ceiling planes in one operation?
Kbird1 replied to ACADuser's topic in General Q & A
Can't you use the Defaults for this and open the other rooms and raise the flat Ceiling in them or apply them as Michael suggest above? M. -
What I'm doing wrong? (Rope lighting, GPU raytrace)
Kbird1 replied to KirillP's topic in General Q & A
Yep weirdly compressed but I think it says 450 lumen. Chief can look pretty good but it can't do Photo Realistic (Yet?) Providing the Plan as several have mentioned is the only way anyone can help really, as we need to "Play" in your Plan , with your Settings etc to figure it out ...if it can be... M. -
This is not really necessary if you prefer to work that way you can simply turn off the Wall Layers and turn on Main Layer Only ( the main layer of a Wall is the Structural Layer, so Framing in this case). Mick.

This Video Card is not capable of PBR-RTRT ( real time raytracing) as it is GTX Based ( cards before the 2000 and up series' ) so in X14 on the old Computer you are see the X12 Version of PBR I believe which uses a different 3D lighting Engine on the new computer with the 4070 you will be using the new 3D Lighting engine ( called Astral ) and it works very differently and won't look as nice until you get X15 which has the Denoiser Setting, ( the X15 PBR game changer for me ) which eliminates the graininess, so people only use 50 samples , I use 200 though, also make sure to Cap Live Samples or the Card will run continuously "sampling forever" The Render Tab in Preferences may show this on the old and new computers under Videocard Status>Hardware Raytracing > Yes ( New Comp) or No (old Comp.)

Ok, good I don't think it is a Permissions Issue then if you can save a file Manually, I would followup with Tech. Support tomorrow for more insight on this - please let us know the outcome. My Settings in Preferences look to be the same as yours and as you can see I have multiple Archives from from Friday , I am not sure but I think Joe's post must actually refer to Auto Saves and not Auto Archives ( documentation boo-boo? ) looking in My Archive Folder.
-
I would ask Tech. Support , but it might be a Permissions Issue with Windows if you are User of the Laptop but not the Owner of it ( ie it's a Work Laptop) as your Name is not in the Folder List above ...it just says Owner instead, so Windows may not be letting you (Chief) to write Files to the Documents Folder or Chief Data Folder etc. Can you Manually save a Chief or other Files into the Archive folder? no error messages? M.

Roof Baseline not connecting to top plate. Chief Architect x13
Kbird1 replied to ChiefUserMarvin's topic in General Q & A
This won't happen if you let Chief AutoBuild the Roof 1st, it is best Practice to set the Wall Roof Directive (WRD) in each wall that will not be a Hip Roof ( Default for all Walls) before Autobuilding, which I highly recommend 1st as it gets the Basics perfect, with Baselines, direction etc correct, and depending on the house will get you 65-90% of the way there, then you can turn OFF Autobuild and finish it up Manually where needed. As for your Errant Roof Plane , if you select it with a single click you will see a triangle near it's center , which is the rotate handle , left click and hold on it and then Rotate the Roof Plane 180°........However I would recommend deleting it and redrawing it to ensure the Baseline and overhangs are drawn correctly in the right position. M. Remember that the KnowledgeBase (KB) has many good Short Tutorials ( with downloadable PDFs) and there are also Free Videos etc to help with all the basics. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00441/creating-hip-and-gable-roofs-manually.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5447/roof-basics.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/6110/roof-options-using-the-manual-and-automatic-roof-tools-grandview-build.html Mick. -
Roof Baseline not connecting to top plate. Chief Architect x13
Kbird1 replied to ChiefUserMarvin's topic in General Q & A
Are you sure the roof plane is drawn in the correct direction ? turn on Roof plane labels in Plan view and ensure the arrow points down the roof..... -
Everything is Drawn in Plan View in Chief at 1:1 (or full real-world size) , when you Send Plan Views to Layout is when you Scale it eg 1/4 = 1' or 1/8" =20' etc. * If you aren't Using Chief or HD Pro , you won't have the send to Layout Option. Chief has a few Videos on it like this one.... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/48/creating-layouts-and-construction-documents.html M.

These days it not really needed to alter those settings but make sure GPU Scheduling is on and Chief is in the List of Desktop Apps * At a guess it is likely the CPU, not the GPU is overheating and shutting down to protect itself (Thermal overload/shutdown). I have the 3080 and 3080Ti which pulls a lot more power than the 3080 and neither have this Issue , it may also be a Power Supply Issue (wattage?) M.

Double Click the title Bar of either View and it will go back to full size minimizing the Other window back to a Tab in the process. M.

Perhaps try Deleting the Offending Catalogs and reloading them as there is (was?) a known Issue with the new Library System , not recognizing some older Catalogs properly, I had to do this back in May to sort out my Library. I believe my Issue was likely caused by me renaming the Libraries as I downloaded them originally with a more descriptive name than Chief gives them, so I no longer do that. this is the thread back then....
