  1. Is your window separation in Defaults 0 ? if it is, have a play with the setting in the Window , under Options called Mullion Depth, it accepts both positive and negative numbers. You also need to adjust the Casing so it overlaps the Frame, ( per the real world) I can see it is set to 0 as well You should really put questions over in the Q+A Forum rather that in te Seeking forum which is for Paid Help.... Mick.
  2. Don't add a Roof, just a second Floor with walls ( CLG HGT) set to the railing height.......... the KnowledgeBase (KB) is always a good place to start........... KB Article Here : https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00295/creating-a-flat-parapet-roof.html there is a Video now too: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1530/drawing-parapet-walls-with-a-flat-roof.html Mick.
  3. You really don't need either of those GPUs for Chief, not that I wouldn't mind either in my machine , so for a "work" only machine you could consider a model with a 4070 or even a 3070Ti to save some money, there are a number of people here even using 3060's with no problems. Intel is releasing New CPUs later this Month , 17th I think? , the 14th Gen "Refresh" models, that I plan to get myself after reading a few real world Reviews next month, so an option is to wait for one of those with a lesser GPU like the 4070 or 4080 to save some money, or even a lower spec GPU and swap the 3090 into it for yourself. However if budget is not an Issue ? M.
  4. Thanks Bob, this is not one I have run into or heard of here before, sounds like it maybe more common than I thought. Mick.
  5. Try HighShed/Gable insteadfor a Shed Roof , but I also suspect that your Railing Walls are not in line (by just a smidge maybe?) with the house Walls creating that situation. M.
  6. Would be good then to add the Solution to the thread so "all those guys still using it" who run into the same Issue can fix their Issue themselves in the future. M.
  7. Happy to Help , just seemed like you were doing things the "hard way" to me ..... I added the Plan file done in Chief's template to the Post above in case someone wants to look at it too, though I think most in the thread already know what/how it was done..
  8. Perhaps I am missing something? but I assume the Exterior Walls are 11' to give you the Service Space above the 9' Rooms ? so, is there any reason not to just use a couple of 3D solids in those areas that you don't want to effect the Room Definition in for the dropped Ceiling? ( The 9' Room Ceilings can be done with a drop ceiling, or use the Shelf Ceiling Option and set the Room to 9' or simply shape the Ceiling 3D Solid to cover all 9'Areas). *PS. unless something has changed? just Note that Tray Ceilings don't like Invisible Walls, and the 3D Solid Technique above is actually Chief's OLD way of doing Tray Ceilings. Ceilings_Creating-a-trey-or-coffered-ceiling-using-polyline-solids_2016.pdf X15 Plan File : Commercial Space Drop Ceilings.plan M.
  9. you can do it as DB mentioned, but if you want to start with CAD, start with a CAD Circle and Convert to a 3D Solid ( 1,2,3>OK) and then in the DBX that appears change the Sizes as needed eg diameter, (match the Width and Depth in 2nd pic) , set Height etc along with the Material Of choice as well. M.
  10. That is your Mistake, with a 2nd Floor above there is no Ceiling Joists on the 1st floor, they are all Floor Joists..... of the 2nd Floor Structure. Chief would only use the ceiling joists Setting in Areas that are not covered by the 2nd floor ie a 1st floor bump-out for example. M.
  11. I think I might need to upgrade to that Version of Chief too...... but I don't see it in your Sig. ? M.
  12. Things a bit slow this week Alan ? ....... M.
  13. Use a backclipped Cross Section Camera thru the Wall of your Model and then add the Text and arrows (Leader Line Tool) per your Image as needed M.
  14. Has a single Beam in the Centered been considered with a standard Floor system and then using Faux Oak Floor Joists for the "look" but perhaps there is not enough Ceiling Hgt if this is existing , vs a new build. M.
  15. It seems M$ did add another CPU Mitigation Last Month for a vulnerability called Downfall...... Downfall is a new CPU vulnerability affecting all modern Intel CPUs before its 12th Gen Alder Lake CPUs. 11th Gen Rocket Lake, 10th Gen Comet Lake, 9th Gen Coffee Lake Refresh, 8th Gen Coffee Lake, and 7th Gen Kaby Lake CPUs are all affected. The exploit takes advantage of a new transient execution attack, GDS or Gath Data Sampling, that enables attackers to steal sensitive information from a system's most secure environments, including the user kernel, processes, virtual machines, and trusted execution environments Security Researcher's Webpage on Downfall https://downfall.page/ and https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-downfall-vulnerability and https://www.tomshardware.com/news/microsoft-offers-instructions-to-disable-downfall-mitigations-on-windows ( *** a comment in this article says the disabling code provided is not correct) M.
  16. I have not looked into it yet but am wondering if Microsoft has added another CPU Mitigation during one of it's Updates recently as things seem "Laggyier" in general now. M.
  17. It's been an Issue Forever, so I work the same way as VHampton and have Saved Layout Cameras in the Project Browser I just reopen and Resend as Images when needed after Revisions for example..... and at the Final Review Stage. I do wish there was a default for the Sent Image Size though , to save a bit of Work. M.
  18. Typically you draw Floor Beams ( Framing Tools) where needed and use the Post with Footing Tool to place the posts ( or piers ) You may need to ask whomever provided those two plans for you, as it maybe a regional name, but a quick Google seems to show a Drop Sill is just a standard 2-Ply Beam with a Plate on top ( for increased bearing/nailing? ) probably at the smae level as the Mudsill (Sill Plate), hence the name.
  19. Yes, much easier to have a quick look if posted, just be aware that you can only Upload 14mb here otherwise you need to Link to OneDrive or ICloud etc. Some Questions may require the Version of chief you are Using too for the best answer but it also Helps anyone offering help to use the same version as you , otherwise you may not be able to open any re-posted plans offering solutions.... usually the best way is to add a Forum Signature , see this Thread on that......... https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/18908-signature-here-at-chief-talk/?tab=comments#comment-155662 Mick
  20. You can just drag the Dimension Line Closer to where you want it........ if that is the only Issue? The Last Pic you Show is not it appears from the Elevation Cameras seen in Plan View ie E7 or E9 ? either of those two Views should be able to be clipped to Room Or if needed uncheck that and use Clip to Sides to restrict the width of the View - you may still need to Draw the Auto Dimensions (I assume) over though. Mick.
  21. Try this, Export the Wall definitions out of an old version of the Plan , and Import them back into the current Plan Mick.
  22. Check Out @Chiefer , this is what He does for a Living http://www.jintudesigns.com/exterior-renderings.html M.
  23. Color Off is controlled in Preferences on the Appearance Tab > Display ....... choices are either Greyscale or Black and White. M.
  24. I recommend creating a dedicated SPV for different Views needed and switching between them to perform different tasks eg Foundation Plan, Framing Plans, Demo Plans etc etc, which also include a dedicated Default Set (Anno), Layerset and all other Defaults (see pic below) , so that things go to the Correct Layer in different Views and one SPV's Defaults, don't accidently Overwrite another's because they Share a Layer or Default etc. You can duplicate any (closest to what you want) to begin and then Make new Defaults ( use Green Cross) seen below leaving the Default Set to LAST, as it will give you the Option to create a new Default Set once you start making new Defaults lower down. ( the 1st icon will become available, it's greyed out in pic below ) Mick.
