  1. If the front is brought up for the stairs it would cover the Windows.... AFAICS the stairs in the back are going to make garage access difficult, and if you need a retaining wall there as well it, going to make that Turning Circle even smaller. ( but after a play it looks like you have 25' ) here I just let the Driveway follow the terrain to "fake" the retaining wall 5 Elev. Regions and a Terrain Break has gotten most of this done...... Don't ever let Terrain Data Lines cross or touch each other or you will get a bad case of the Crazies ( Spikes etc) , and is why I use an Orange Line style and 95% transparent Fill for the regions --- if they cross each other the Orange will appear darker ( 2x 5% = 10% solid) as you can see on the right where i deliberately crossed them ( has no effect here as the cross-over is outside the T.Perimeter.)
  2. Obviously I am not familiar with the project but I see nothing that couldn't be done with the Terrain Tools, at least so far as the info I have...... Where should the Terrain be at the Garage Doors then if not at the bottom of the Doors? and the bottom of the Windows on the Road side? You don't need P-Solids for the Drive (or a Ramp) if done properly as the Driveway will follow the Terrain Slope ( just sits on it unless you dictate otherwise.) The Road appears to be a Road with Curb and sits on the Terrain also Your Symbols Buildings stairs do not touch the ground either side of the building ...if that's important as far as the Presentation. ( red lines on Building corners were just so you could tell it was sloped between the buildings easier. ) Mick
  3. Use the Terrain Tools and you don't need to "build anything Up" with P.Solids and don't use Terrain Features to control Heights , use Elevation Regions and the Driveways will just sit on top and follow the Terrain as Mark mentioned..... PS don't use the straight drive either it can't be reshaped , use the polyline driveway instead. Mick.
  4. I don't think Chief Has a Users Group ( Industry Pros) anymore they solicit ideas from like they did 5-7 years ago which is kind of a pity as meeting Industry Standards is pretty important to Everyday Users....
  5. In X13 Doors now hold their initial Int. or Ext Setting, so just delete the door and place another and it should be an Ext. Door .....works for me at least, on both levels. PS that is a rather strange Wall Definition and certainly not Real World but maybe you were trying something? M.
  6. It's Part of The IAMDESIGN Library.... (I think it is the Old Indital Library in X11... merger?)
  7. It's these situations the furred Wall setting is there for , so it may not be working as it should with the new release, you should report it to Tech Support and supply them the Plan. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00181/creating-furred-walls.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00925/using-marriage-walls.html Mick.
  8. You'll have to post the plan I think or at least a sample plan with the same issue then. Mick.
  9. Try setting the Dwarf (?) Half Wall as a furred wall on the structure Tab so it doesn't react to the main Wall when touching it. M.
  10. Yeah I knew that, and that was why I suggested He Tap you....
  11. I only mentioned you as I thought you maybe able to help Scott out , but there are any number of Services who could do it as well including Jintu (Chiefer) Mick.
  12. For the future I would suggest looking in how to do it (easily) manually too, these should get you started.......... https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1521/manually-drawing-dormers.html?playlist=95 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/1520/creating-openings-in-roofs-for-manually-drawn-dormers.html?playlist=95 https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/9923/focus-manual-dormers.html?playlist=95
  13. Ahh yes I missed the Export part , I have always Printed to PDF too M.
  14. They still offer the X8 Viewer for doing this , there is a KB article about converting old plans which has a download link in it.... M.
  15. He said "who builds with a Scale Rule" , not who builds from the plans...... However I would say your Engineer and Print Shop are not Printing at 100% but allowing Adobe to use "Fit" instead, a common mistake as Fit is the Default setting. M.
  16. Happened to me yesterday too , trying to rotate a camera in the new release , I didn't see it in .38 Mick.
  17. I guess not , so I've done it for you..... you're Welcome.
  18. BEST-PRACTICE USE OF PAINT SPRAY TOOL AS A GENERAL RULE OF THUMB, USING THE MATERIAL PAINTER REALLY ONLY BECOMES A PROBLEM WHEN YOU ARE USING IT TO CHANGE A MATERIAL THAT IS BEING CONTROLLED BY THE STRUCTURAL LAYER SETTINGS OF A PARAMETRIC OBJECT EG A WALL OR WHEN USING IT WITH BLEND COLORS WITH MATERIALS TOGGLED ON. ALL OTHER MATERIAL CHANGES MADE USING THE SPRAY CAN ARE CARRIED THROUGH EXACTLY THE SAME AS THEY WOULD BE IF YOU WERE TO CHANGE THAT MATERIAL USING THE MATERIAL TAB AND ARE THEREFORE CARRIED THROUGH TO THE MATERIAL LIST AS WELL. MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO USE THE MATERIAL PAINTER FREELY AND OFTEN, WITH A FEW CAVEATS, AS IT’S ONE OF THE MOST EFFICIENT METHODS OF CHANGING MATERIALS, ESPECIALLY WHEN USED IN THE APPROPRIATE MODE (COMPONENT, OBJECT, PLAN, ROOM, ETC. – LEARN THESE AS THEY CAN BE DANGEROUS) FOR THE MOST PART, IT SHOULD JUST BE AVOIDED IN THESE SCENARIOS: ON EXTERIOR WALL SURFACES. IT'S ALMOST NEVER APPROPRIATE TO JUST CHANGE THE COLOR OF AN EXTERIOR WALL. YOU'RE ALMOST ALWAYS INTENDING TO CHANGE THE ACTUAL STRUCTURE OF THE WALL AND SO YOU SHOULD BE CHANGING THE WALL TYPE OR WALL TYPE DEFINITION. THE MAIN EXCEPTION TO THIS WOULD BE IF YOU'RE JUST CHANGING THE ACTUAL COLOR (PAINT) OF A MATERIAL ON ONE OR 2 SPECIFIC WALL SECTIONS IN WHICH CASE THIS WOULD ALSO BE ONE OF THE VERY FEW CIRCUMSTANCES WHERE USING BLEND COLORS WITH MATERIALS MAY ALSO BE USED EFFECTIVELY. AGAIN THOUGH, THESE SITUATIONS ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. 99% OF THE TIME, EXTERIOR WALL SURFACE MATERIALS SHOULD BE CHANGED IN THE ACTUAL WALL TYPE DEFINITION. ON INTERIOR WALL SURFACES WHERE THE ACTUAL STRUCTURAL LAYERS ARE BEING CHANGED. PAINTING A DRYWALL ACCENT WALL IN A ROOM A DIFFERENT COLOR THAN THE REST? MATERIAL PAINTER IS TOTALLY APPROPRIATE. CHANGING THE WALL MATERIAL FROM PAINTED DRYWALL TO WOOD VENEER? CHANGE IT IN THE WALL TYPE DEFINITION. WHEN CHANGING FRAMING LAYERS. AT THE END OF THE DAY, IT'S IMPORTANT TO JUST LEARN HOW THE TOOLS WORK. THE MATERIAL PAINTER IS ESSENTIALLY A SHORTCUT TO THE MATERIAL TAB. THERE ARE A FEW MINOR EXCEPTIONS, BUT WHEN IT IS APPROPRIATE TO CHANGE A MATERIAL IN THE MATERIAL TAB, THEN THE SPRAY CAN IS GOOD TO GO, OTHERWISE, CHANGE IN THE STRUCTURE OR WALL TYPE TAB. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE FIX …. IF YOU HAVE ARRIVED HERE DUE TO PAINT CAN TOOL AND OBJECTS LIKE WALLS WON’T RETURN TO THEIR DEFAULT MATERIALS ………eg. SIDING AND DRWYALL 1. OPEN OBJECT AND GOTO THE MATERIAL TAB 2. SEE IF THE WORD DEFAULT IS SHOWN NEXT TO THE MATERIAL’S NAME…IF NOT….. 3. SELECT EACH MATERIAL HOLDING THE CONTROL (OPTION) KEY 4. CLICK THE SELECT MATERIAL BUTTON ON THE RIGHT 5. GOT TO LIBRARY MATERIALS TAB ( IF NOT SELECTED ) 6. CHECK THE BOX AT THE BOTTOM FOR “USE DEFAULT MATERIAL” 7. CLICK OK ( A FEW TIMES IF NEEDED TO BACK COMPLETELY OUT ) PDF : Best Practices for the Use of the Paint Can Tool.pdf M. 19. This and the New Layer are only needed if you only want to see the L-Shape in Plan View , personally I have several Client's that work with Door and Drawers on, so it is not an Issue, and it also helps with visually aligning Flush Fillers ( flush with the Doors, the norm these days ) which I build a similar way from a base cabinet. While it will work as Noted they can't be added to Style Palletes ( yet? ) a down side if you need to do "Options" for Clients, this way. ( why I use Base Cabinets) Not on it own as it can't report to a Schedule as Gene and a lot of others need it to, but as an Overlay to show the CAD L-Shape in Plan Views, if needed yes. M.
  20. Thanks Gene , always happy to help if I can. Mick.
  21. Personally I didn't say anything about lost functionality, and I am not sure Mark did either, just that it wasn't working in X13 as expected it seemed, as it had in X12 and he was figuring it out, but he thought it might be a Layer issue, though it was the Cabinet Default setting "Show" not being ON in the X13 Template in my case. In the X13 Template I used to test with, the General Cabinet Default "always show closed Doors and Drawers" was off and I had asked Mark what it might be ........as it worked in his X12 Plan. Hence my reminders in the Tip Forums too *** 1st Set General Cabinet Default to always show closed Doors and Drawers On *** https://chieftalk.chiefarchitect.com/topic/31824-15-filler-with-panel-attached-vid/?tab=comments#comment-250551
  22. Check out the HomeTalk Forum too as most people here don't know Pro ( most have Premier or Interiors ) and won't be able to answer specific Pro Questions. AlsoWhen watch Videos make sure the Pro Version is listed , the same on the KnowledgeBase ( KB) as an applicable Product. https://hometalk.chiefarchitect.com/ M.
  23. I am not sure anyone said that ....... JJ Mick.
  24. Un-mull it - open dbx change - re- mull them. Set Window separation to 0" as well in Defaults otherwise you will have a 2" ( 1 stud) gap between window ( and Doors) so they won't bump tight. Mick
