  1. Finally, some good news... NVIDIA has identified a problem that we think is causing the random but frequent "device removed" error messages on Windows 11 using any 3000 series video card. They are working on an update for the video card drivers. Not sure about the ETA though so we are still looking into whether or not there is a reliable workaround for this problem. Hopefully, this will be resolved pretty soon. Please remember that all "device removed" error messages are not necessarily caused by the same problems. The "device removed" error message is a very generic error message that only really means that there was some kind of low level error that occurred while we were trying to generate the view. These can be caused by a wide variety of system problems, video card driver bugs, and bugs in Chief itself. Please report all repeatable "device removed" error messages using any other OS or video card series directly to our tech support team: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/
  2. You should always submit an official feature request for anything that you would like to work differently. Posting frowny faces on the Q&A forum isn't the same and is very unlikely to ever get into our feature request database. Very possible but not very simple. For all the people that asked for this (and I know there were a number of you, over far too many years), here's a little sneak peek at X14.
  3. As mentioned above, most of the training videos have been recorded using Premier. You will see some differences because Interiors is subset of the features in Premier. Interiors does not come with the Extended or Terrain toolbar configurations. These configurations have a number of tools that are not available in Interiors. You could get a copy of these toolbar configurations and try them out but I don't recommend it because they will be missing a lot of tools. Instead you can use the Customize Toolbars feature to add any tools you want to your current configuration. You can also create your own toolbar configurations to quickly switch your available tools. More information about customizing toolbars can be found here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00811/customizing-toolbars.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/5407/customizing-the-toolbars.html?playlist=81
  4. Please contact our sales department for more info (as suggested by Mick). They will be able to confirm that the seller is actually selling a legitimate copy of the program and what the transfer fee will be. Please be aware that the transfer fee price may vary depending on whether the seller is selling a primary or a secondary license (that was purchased at a discount). They should also be able to explain to you what your options are regarding our SSA program. X14 should be available during the first half of this year and if your SSA is active, you will then be able to get X14 for free along with all of the other SSA benefits (such as tech support, training, and bonus library content).
  5. Double callouts, or numbers in the note schedules, almost always means duplicate schedules. See this tech article for some more info: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-02968/removing-duplicate-callout-labels.html
  6. "As far as I know that is not possible." That was my first thought too. The only things I can think of is that you might have messed up your allowed angles, turned off your angle snaps, or maybe you rotated your plan view? At any rate, you should either post a plan or contact tech support.
  7. This video might help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/watch/61/controlling-the-drawing-order-of-objects.html?playlist=97
  8. I believe Richard's problems with wall niches were fixed a long time ago. If you have problems with 3 or more wall intersecting leaving a gap with wall hatching, you should be able to correct this using the Edit Wall Layer Intersections tool. If this is not your problem, then you should contact our tech support team.
  9. 99.99% of the time when someone posts about this particular problem it is because they are using a pirated version of the software. If you are using a legally purchased version of the software, then you should contact our technical support team for additional help. If you are not, then you should either purchase the software or stop using it. Please be aware that using pirated software is illegal and companies or individuals that are using unlicensed copies of copyrighted software are subject to legal actions. If you work for or know of a company that is using pirated software, then I would encourage you to report them to the Business Software Alliance (BSA) using their online form or by calling their toll-free number. In some cases, you may even receive a cash reward for making your report. https://reporting.bsa.org/r/report/add.aspx?src=us&ln=en-us
  10. You should be able to temporarily remove your library symbol newel, change the material for your parametric newels, and then put the symbol back. You should always report these kind of things to our tech support team.
  11. You should either post a plan that demonstrates the problem or contact our technical support team.
  12. We have recently had to update our list of known incompatibilities to include a new section about Windows 11 and Nvidia Series 30 video cards. I am not aware of any known problems with the GTX 1070 card. Windows 11 with NVIDIA 30 Series Graphics Products & Versions Affected: Chief Architect X13 and Home Designer 2022 Platform: Windows 11 with NVIDIA RTX 30 series graphics Description: Software closes unexpectedly and then presents the following error: "An internal rendering error has occurred: device removed" typically when opening a camera view or a dialog with a preview window. Solution: There appears to be an incompatibility between Windows 11 and the NVIDIA drivers. At this time, the best solution is to roll back to Windows 10. We are currently working closely with NVIDIA; however, an expected resolution date has not been set. If you'd like, you can contact NVIDIA Support as well. This will help them gauge how this issue is affecting their customers and may also give them an opportunity to collect additional information to help resolve the problem: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/support/consumer/
  13. Apparently I was not clear enough in my earlier post so let me try to explain this a bit differently. Your views will only keep track of what layer set you are using. They will not keep track of what the layer settings are for that layer set. That's the layer set's job, not the view's job. If you open a layer set and change a layer setting, such as turning objects on/off or change the line color, line style, or line weight, then any views using that layer set will look different. If you don't want any of your views to change, than don't change these settings. You won't get a prompt because you did not change anything the view keeps track of. This is no different then changing a material using the Adjust Material Definition tool. Everything in the plan that is using that material will look different but you won't get a prompt asking you to save your view. Same thing if you change a wall type in the Define Wall Types dialog. Every wall in your plan that is using that wall type will look different but you won't get a prompt asking you to save the view.
  14. You could also "old-school" it with a cabinet soffit. You can put custom moldings on soffits but if the soffit is against the ceiling, the room molding might just wrap around it. You can also convert your room molding into a custom molding polyline so that you can edit the shape to be whatever you want.
  15. Modifying any of your layer settings does not actually modify any of the data that is stored with your saved plan view or camera view. You should not get a prompt in this case. Changing your active layer set or any of the other active annotation defaults does and you should get a prompt, unless you have selected either "Always Save" or "Never Save" for your saved plan view.
  16. "This is the same type of glitch that's created by having multiple SVP's open and toggling between views." It may be similar but it is definitely not the same. I believe the bugs you are referring to are already fixed in X13. Currently, we have no open reports of any problems like this. If you, or anyone else, can reproduce any of these problems, then please report them to our tech support team. Please be sure to include detailed steps for how to reproduce the problems.
  17. Your problem does not sound normal. You should contact technical support.
  18. Carl, you should contact support on Monday during their normal business hours. What you are describing should not be happening and we have no reports of this kind of behavior in X13. There were some toolbar problems in X12 and prior versions but as far as we can tell these problems have been fixed (or at least greatly reduced) in X13. Currently, we have only one report of a user who was having problems with his custom toolbar reverting back to the default toolbars once every 2-3 weeks that we believe is related to him using an icloud account.
  19. "When I try and delete the door, it deletes the stairwell opening." I don't think you deleted the doorway. I think you deleted the actual railing. As a result, you lost your room definition which meant that your room was no longer a stairwell (or open below). If your stair has the "Automatic Rail Openings" option turned on (under the style panel of the stair dialog), it will automatically create a doorway in the railing. You can turn this option off, and you won't get an opening in the railing but you will still have a railing across the top of your stair so I don't think this will help you solve your problem. You can manually edit the doorway to make it large enough so that you won't get that extra piece (as suggested by Chopsaw). Or, you could make the railing invisible (as suggested by Jacob) although this will affect the whole railing so in some situations you will need to break the railing first. This might also be the result of an alignment problem. If your capped stair wall is not properly aligned with your wall on your upper floor or your stair is not actually aligned with the wall, you could see some problems like this. Sometimes just making sure everything is properly aligned can make little problems like this go away. As for the wall cap miter, you may be able to correct this with a wall break to force the cap to go horizontal before the miter but you might just need to manually fill in a piece to cover the hole. In both cases, I don't think this will always work perfectly since you have some unusual angled intersections. You might want to submit a report to tech support and include this plan so that we can look into this more to see if we can make any improvements.
  20. Is the arrow actually part of the block? If you only selected the text and blocked it, then the arrow won't be added to the block. Is the arrow on a different layer? If you explode a block and any of the objects are using a layer that is turned off, then they will disappear. Any thing else is probably a "post the plan" type issue. Or, if all else fails, contact tech support.
  21. Maybe use an electrical schedule?
  22. You might want to have a look at this tech article: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03124/troubleshooting-origin-error-messages.html This message is only there to let people know that they have either drawn or moved something so far away from the origin that it is likely to cause problems that would otherwise be hard to figure out. We assumed that most people would either know what they did wrong or be able to find it for themselves. We provided the options to delete it or move it to the origin for those people that were not able to figure it out on their own. We also provided the Check Knowledge Base button for those people that had more questions. If you think either the error message or the tech article can be improved, then you should probably make a suggestion. You should probably leave the snarky comments out though because they probably won't help you get much support.
  23. One way of doing this is by drawing the existing floor plan and then doing a "save as" on the plan. You can then use the reference display to display the existing plan below the proposed plan. Another way of doing this is to create a cad detail of the existing plan view and then convert it into a cad block that you can display before the proposed changes. We also have a number of remodeling training videos that you might want to take a look at: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/videos/playlists/120/remodeling.html
