  1. When drawing or rotating objects, the angle is usually displayed in the status bar. If you setup your allowed angles, it will be easier to snap to some angle that is not on 15 degree or 7.5 degree increments. Placing an angular dimension (as shown above) is a good way of specifying an exact angle. You could also use the transform/replicate dialog. The make parallel tool can also be very useful. One thing that some people don't know is that you can click on the tool a second time to open the dialog that allows you to choose whether or not the whole object is rotated or just the current line.
  2. X13 has a brand new rendering engine written from scratch so it has different system requirements. There have been lots of reports of problems with creating camera views but most of them are solved by updating video drivers. You should either read the tech article or contact support.
  3. Your video card looks like it should be supported but your driver is from 2018. You might want to check to see if there is an updated version. If you continue to have problems, you might want to check out this tech article: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00106/troubleshooting-3d-camera-view-display-problems-in-chief-architect.html And if all else fails, you should contact technical support for more help: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/
  4. Are you using the latest update (23.4)? The reason that this is important is that there was a bug related to selecting certain wall types that were saved in the library that was originally in 23.0 that should have been fixed in 23.1. If you are still using 23.0, then you should really get the latest update. If you are getting this problem in 23.4, then it is possible that our fix was not complete. You need to report this to our tech support team so that we can look into this more.
  5. Are you using the latest update (23.4)? How did you get the symbol into the program? Did you start having this problem immediately or did it only start happening some time later? You could try temporarily turning off the library browser preview and selection windows to see if you can then delete the library object. Before you do that though, you should also see if you can export the symbol so that you can report this problem to our tech support team. This way we might be able to prevent this kind of problem from affecting others in the future.
  6. Did you click on the "Check Knowledge Base" button? This will often take you to tech support article that will explain things in more detail. Did you get any error messages before you noticed the problems in your plan? Most often when plans start misbehaving the program will display some kind of error message letting you know that there is a problem. Sometimes people ignore these messages and then wonder why the plan is having problems. You should never ignore error messages. Did you save your plan after you saw the problems? This is one way to get corrupted plan files. Whenever you see strange problems in a plan, you should always do a save as so that you won't corrupt what might be a good version of the plan. The bottom line is that this error message means that your plan is corrupt and can't be read. The file header information is the very first thing in the file and when this data is missing or wrong then there is usually no way to read the file. It's basically gibberish to the program. The best thing to do is fine an archive or backup of the plan that is usable. You might also check out this tech article: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00960/message-the-plan-file-you-are-attempting-to-open-appears-to-be-corrupted.html On a side note, you have given me no information that indicates that this is a new problem in 23.4. My guess is that this is the result of a random program or system glitch and has nothing to do with the update. If you experience this problem again, then you should contact our technical support team.
  7. If you only choose to migrate toolbars, then none of your other settings should be affected. You can also do this manually by just copying the data from your X12 toolbars folder into your X13 toolbars folder.
  8. Post your plan (or at least some pictures of what you are seeing) or contact tech support. You may also want to update your signature if you are using X13 instead of X11.
  9. If you find any problems with the new update (23.4) that are new, then please report them directly to our tech support team.
  10. You don't actually need a very good computer to run the desktop viewer. Keep in mind that the viewer doesn't have all of the features that are in Premier (and it can't even do real time raytracing). All you need is one that meets the minimum system requirements. PC Minimum Windows 10 / 11 64-bit 8 GB of RAM Video Card 2 GB of RAM DirectX 12 5 GB of available hard disk space Internet access
  11. You might want to check out using the free desktop viewer instead of the mobile app. If the client has a fairly capable computer (one that can run X13), it will allow them open and view the plan. You will need to send them the plan file and all of the external referenced files. We recommend using the Backup Entire Plan tool to do this. You can request the desktop viewer here: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/resources/viewerrequest.php Some other options would be to send them exported images, a 360 Panorama image, a 3D model (they will need something to view it with though), or a recorded walkthrough.
  12. Nothing that odd really. It just took us a while to resolve some of the remaining most important issues. First we were waiting on nvidia to help us with the problems on Windows 11 related to their video cards and then for Intel with some other problems with theirs. Turns out the nividia problems were driver issues that they could fix but the Intel problems were ours so this update should correct them. There are a number of other useful bug fixes though so I would encourage everyone to get and use this latest update.
  13. If you did not try the latest Nvidia drivers (specifically the 511.79 one), then you should do this first. This has solved *most* of the issues we have seen with Windows 11 and the nvidia 3000 series cards. You might also want to get the 23.4 update that we released just today. We fixed a number of important issues and some of them might help with your problems. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/updates.html You might also check this tech article about how to solve camera view problems: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00106/troubleshooting-3d-camera-view-display-problems-in-chief-architect.html And if none of this helps, then I would encourage you to continue to work with our tech support team. We have people who are trained to help you solve these kinds of problems and this is part of what your SSA is paying for. Buying a new computer is almost always the very last resort, unless your computer does not actually meet our min system requirements (https://www.chiefarchitect.com/products/sysreq.html) If you are considering buying a new computer, you might also want to review this blog article with some more recommendations: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/blog/computer-for-design-and-gaming/
  14. While in an elevation view, you can use the Edit Active View tool and go to the Selected Defaults panel. This will show you exactly what your defaults are for that view.
  15. What you will see is controlled by where the back clipping plane is relative to the model. If it is behind the walls, then you will see the walls. If it is in front of them, then you won't. Also, it looks like your framing is either not built, not displayed, or possibly your framing is not perpendicular to the camera view.
  16. Is your Color turned off for your view? F8?

  18. In the Layer Display Options dialog, we will display a symbol in the Used column. This symbol can be a "+", a picture of a "wrench", or an "S". The "+" means that an object is used in the plan somewhere. The "wrench" means that it is used in your defaults somewhere. And the "S" means that it is a system layer. Layers can be used for multiple things though so we use a priority for the symbol we display. We will always display the "+" if you have anything in the plan that is using a layer even if it is also used in defaults or a system layer. We will always display the "wrench" if it is used in defaults even if it is also a system layer. We will only display the "S" if it is not used in the plan or defaults. The good news is that if you hover over the symbol, you should get a pop-up hint that explains where it is being used. Hope this information helps.
  19. You renamed the system layer for text and then you added a new custom layer with the same name as the original system layer name. This is probably not a good thing to do. I recommend that you don't rename system layers. All this does is lead to confusion. Open the Layer Display Options dialog and use the Reset Layer Names button to restore your system layers to their default names. When you copy text (or any other object), the layer does not change. In the first plan, the text in the plan is using the system layer for text and when you copy it to a new plan, it is still using the system layer for text. If the text is set to "default" for the layer, then all this means is that it is using the system layer for text. It doesn't matter that you renamed the system layer, it is still the system layer for text. We don't copy system layers because they already exist in every plan. The bottom line is that when we make a copy of an object we don't change the layer. You can't do what you are asking for. If you want us to modify the way the program works, then you need to ask for some new functionality with a feature request.
  20. As for layers, when you copy text (rich or normal) from one plan to another, the layer will not change. I don't know of any way to change the layer when you paste*. If your text is using a custom layer that does not already exist in the new plan, the program will automatically copy the layer into the new plan. I believe this is also true for all other objects. *if you are pasting text from some other program, Chief will create a new text object that should follow your current text defaults. In theory, you can use the paste special tool to change the type of text but I don't think this is a very good solution for what you are trying to do.
  21. How are you trying to create your camera view? If, for example, you are trying to create a full camera view and you are drawing it the wrong way in plan view, then your camera view might be blank. If you are using the perspective full overview tool and there is nothing in your model or all of the layers are turned off, then your view might be blank. These are just a couple of very simple guesses but there could be many, many different kinds of problems that could result in a blank screen. You need to give people more information or a plan if you want them to make better guesses. You might also want to check out this support article: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00021/troubleshooting-small-or-blank-camera-overviews.html Or if all else fails, then contact our technical support team during their normal business hours. https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/
  22. Your mouse problems are most likely a hardware or system issue. If you can't solve the problems on your own, then you might want to try contacting technical support.
  23. The answer is in your picture. Your library browser is only showing two windows and it should be showing 3. If you look near the top, you will see a horizontal bar with a dot in the middle. Select this and drag it down.
  24. You should probably not ignore error messages when you get them. My guess is that there is something in your model that is causing the performance problems. Here are a couple of tech articles that might help you: https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-03093/message-unable-to-perform-photon-mapping.html https://www.chiefarchitect.com/support/article/KB-00010/speeding-up-a-ray-trace.html If not, then you might want to either post a plan or contact technical support.
